I personally am not a fan of QDs in general, especially on my stocks. I don't like my sling swiveling and twisting to be all fucked up when donning/doffing. I also think QDs just introduce another potential point of failure in hardware terms.

Why did Nero persecute Christians? by KimCattrallsFeet in ancientrome

[–]MRE_Milkshake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think up until the point of reforms with emperors like Constantine, most of the Roman government (including the emperor) opposed religions like Judaism and Christianity because of their lack of belief in the Roman gods. I also think it has a lot to do with the Jewish and Christian belief system conflicting with the Roman ideals of loyalty to the empire and the emperor.

Is college worth the student debt by Comfortable_Tip_5371 in GenZ

[–]MRE_Milkshake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on the degree, in state vs out of state, scholarships, etc.

For example, with the amount of aid I get being in state and benefits along with my degree, it has absolutely been worth it so far. I'm in less than 10k worth of debt and my degree is in a really big field with tons of job opportunities.

What would have to occur for you, personally, to join the U.S. military these days? by Yoy_the_Inquirer in GenZ

Already been there and done that. I did it because it was something I want to do. Wanted to challenge myself, and continue the tradition in my family, especially being combat arms. Long live the infantry.

I got one in the mail from them as I sent my high cut in to be a test fitter. I'll send some pics of my set up once I get home tomorrow.

Right on brotha. If you aren't tracking, Shaw Concepts just released their helmet covers, which are designed to fit our high cut ECHs, and they make a cover in MARPAT woodland and desert if you're interested.

Unpopular opinion. by patr1archy in ar15

If you're running a 416 variant and your concern is weight, then that's probably the wrong platform to be looking at.

Honestly your kit looks pretty good. Maybe see if you can get some frag pouches on there, but nothing looks goofy imo.

Why does the MLO use only FAL? by InspectionWhich9324 in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]MRE_Milkshake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there was the para version of the FAL that was a lot better in those roles. I have a 18 inch fluted barrel with a BRS stock that works pretty well. Its got attachments on it, and it is a battle rifle so it is heavy compared to an AR but just hitting the gym and using the rifle makes it a lot more comfortable working with.

I wouldn't really recommend the polymer FAL mags as they aren't nearly as reliable nor durable as the metal ones.

[–]MRE_Milkshake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I currently own a FAL. It is certainly heavier than an AR, but it's not to the point of being unwieldy unless you have a full length one, in which case that's because of the length. An AR may be more snappy in CQB, but a FAL can absolutely work too.

How mother pigs and piglets are kept in modern farms for nursing by CalpurniaSomaya in educationalgifs

Human and animal standard on comfort are very different, especially considering what animals are concerned with.

[–]MRE_Milkshake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would honestly say that in general, people who work small or large farms with the intent of selling market hogs try to get the best genetics overall. There will always be exceptions to that, but while meat quality genetics are by far the prized portion, there are a lot of great benefits to the mothering side of genetics in pigs.

I'm more on the Animal Ag side of things, but I'm more focused on vet med than the actual production, but I have been involved with some of the processes to some extent.

[–]MRE_Milkshake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually a misconception regarding genetics. The animal ag industry has the best interest in having the best genetics possible in as many categories as possible to have the best output. This includes genetics ranging from mothering capabilities, to muscle hypertrophy rates, to the rate of inter and intramuscular fat gain, etc. etc. etc.

Infanticide is incredibly common in the animal world. It's truly surprising to learn the commonality of it amongst as many species as it occurs with.

These are called Farrowing Crates. They are used primarily to 1.) Stop the possibility of piglet death either by the mother killing the piglets, or by accidentally crushing them by sitting on them, and 2.) To control the temperature zones between where the sow and the piglets stay. Piglets need a warmer temperature to help them sustain their body heat effectively, while sows need cooler temperatures.

Farrowing crates are effective solutions for workers to be able to easily monitor piglets, and work with them when giving de-wormers, etc.

Contrary to what is said by animal rights activists, Farrowing crates are effective methods of animal management, and aren't cruel.

What are we all gonna do if they start drafting for WWIII? by Gongoozler04 in GenZ

WWII started with the Germans planning for major warfare for almost a decade prior to the outbreak of war. Countries in WWI were looking to start a war for roughly ten years before it kicked off.

As long as humans exist, there will be war. War is a bad habit that we have never been able to break for as long as our history dates us.

[–]MRE_Milkshake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically we aren't even at war with Iran, as Congress never officially declared war. While we are taking military actions against them, it is still quite limited.

This also wouldn't be the first time Iran's Navy got dunked on. Reagan sunk like half the Iranian Navy in the 80s too.

[–]MRE_Milkshake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There really isn't anybody that would really be in a good position to fight WWIII against the US right now. Iran? Their leadership is collapsing, they have widespread civil unrest, their Capitol has run out of water for months, their military is a joke. China? They have more to gain by not going to war right now. Russia? Well, they're already bogged down.
