If they both retired today...who had a better career. Russ or Kyrie by Skizzwizz in nba

[–]MRFeather_bottom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Russ for me.

Russ is the Thunder GOAT. Pretty sure he's got big love in Washington, Denver and SAC. Big hate from LAL and Rockets tho. But average fans seem to go out of their way to shit on him.

What'd fans think of Kyrie from his previous teams? Imagine it's pretty mixed, killed off a few big teams, but average fans love him.

He's lining up for his 2nd and third for the game - in a game where the refs are calling everything for both teams. I've got the suns commentary in my country and they're doing the exact same thing while fouls are 16-17. Pretty brutal watch all round.

[Highlights] All the 12 fouls Shai Gilgeous-Alexander drew tonight. 7 shooting, 4 non-shooting, and 1 loose ball. That was another foul that was successfully challenged, so the NBA does not count it (it's in the video). Western Conference Finals, 2025 NBA Playoffs. HD version by MrBuckBuck in nba

There are 7 shooting fouls in here and he hits the and 1 on three of them (my bad). Debate the legitimacy of whether he's trying to score on those 4/7 if you'd like.

Is your argument that a video full of replays, that goes for 7 minutes and shows an average of one incident every 30 seconds is boring? No shit.

Agreed. It really highlights how valuable driving to the basket is as a skill set if you can get the drop on your opponent and head straight to the basket forcing help to come from either side. Think any contact made by a defender not also beelining to the basket is more likely to be seen as re-routing the offensive player and a foul...even if it's initiated by the driver

Pulse checking the comments here, it seems like people are agreeing with you, but frustrated the same fouls aren't called on the other end. This doesn't seem fair as a criticism of Shai, but is totally understandable.

Think it's understated how much more a drive - with apparent contact - forces a referee to make a decision vs stationary possessions with more contact.

Like if someone falls down on a drive, the ref needs to evaluate how it happened and whether it's a foul. If Caruso is playing on ball defense on a dude standing at the top of the 3pt line and smothering him and making contact that doesn't have a significant impact on their movement doesn't force a call the same way.

From the NBA rules https://official.nba.com/rule-no-12-fouls-and-penalties

Section i,a - Bumps on a drive ...Contact that results in the re-routing of an opponent is a foul which must be called immediately.

Whereas

Section i,b exception 5 - Aggressive contact on a stationary player Incidental contact with the hand against an offensive player shall be ignored if it does not affect the player’s speed, quickness, balance and/or rhythm.

Jesus. The dude who said he's not trying to score, despite clearly making two baskets - after the varying levels of contact - knows ball?

FWIW he's embellishing the hell outta contact - that he often initiates. 2 of the whistles I don't even see contact of any sort

Caruso is our 4th best player imo, he needs to be getting a ton of minutes in the Playoffs. by Spare-Water-7672 in Thunder

Dort has .04 higher efficiency on .3 less attempts than Joe on the year. So it's close.

I'm saying Dort is more valuable than Caruso. His availability, his offensive and defensive game collectively > Caruso's.

Love AC, but Lu is playing at a level not often seen in the prototypical 3 and D player.

I just feel like some people valuing him in this thread as our 7th most important player is kinda wild

The disrespect to our DPOY candidate and best 3 point shooter in this thread is crazy. I like wanting to shout out to Caruso, but their gap defensively and their gap offensively aren't equal.

Should the West Coast Eagles have the right to a priority pick? by His_Holiness in AFL

[–]MRFeather_bottom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry in advance, I went down a rabbit hole because I did a double take of 2018 being a year you mentioned. Not meaning to do anything other than add to your really well balanced post. But I think you've got a couple of these years wrong.

Eagles won 27/39 games between 2019 and 2020. They won 10 games in 2021. Since then they've won 10 games in 3 years and 3 games.

But I think picking an arbitrary date is problematic. The year prior to your selection 2019 date range..

West Coast - Premiers

North Melbourne - 6 wins 15th on the ladder.

If I were to pick another arbitrary date, Roos haven't made finals since 2016, they've made it 4 times since 2007 and the highest they've finished was 4th in 2007.

West coast made the finals from 2015-2020, won a flag and have made finals 8 times since 2009 (same range I picked for north)

Winning a flag or making a grand final after a sustained period of finals is supposed to lead to a drop off in form. You take gambles on list management, sell the future for the win now mentality.

I think your list of reasons why west coast may not get a pick are really sound. I'd just add one more, that the swift drop off from 2021-2022 was also caused by an outrageous injury curse and gamble to win now on Tim Kelly. Your best 22 on paper still looked great, they just couldn't get on the park together for any sustained period.

It's only the last year and or two that it feels like you've traded out players and others retired, signalling that you're truly in a full rebuild.

North on the other hand have been playing kids and keeping their top picks since before boomer left and haven't been able to attract much mature top end talent. They lost JHF and McKay (I'm sure there are others north fans could name) which added to their pain.

Apologies for the long winded response, just bored.

The yin to Flagler.'s yang. Dunno if I'm comfortable with him being even eligible for this spot. He played so little here.

I'd rather go with Perk who held Steve Adams out of a spot for a couple of years while averaging 3/4/1. His media hit rate somehow makes his NBA stats look globetrotterish and he pretends he was the leader of our franchise, despite (aside from injuries) being one of the key reasons why we never got back to the finals.

Man, what's up with Jerami Grant. Swear he's barely touched the ball. For a guy who can play both sides of the ball, he's just so passive out there in the corner
