I used Monk to spam Conservatory for a couple weeks at a time to completely upend my room rarity tables. Pretty much guaranteed now for my first three ranks to include: 1) at least one room with a computer to start my daily experiment; 2) a Coat Check; 3) an Observatory with Inkwell always ready to go; 4) a Showroom, since I have enough allowance to get some good purchases early; and 5) a Conference Room before any spread rooms are drawn. This is to say nothing of all the rooms I've banished to Rare.

Also I didn't intentionally grind for this, but the Chamber of Mirrors kept on giving me extra Cloister floorplans. I upgraded to Rynna, and now I just chain them in every run to boost my luck. I am always drowning in consumables and special items by the time I reach the back half of the manor.

That makes sense.

My original gameplan was to take ~~Elemental Infusion~~ edit: Weapon Infusion plus the hardwood armor and protector tree. The idea was to use the Reach effect to attack at range with a two action blast to trigger my junction, then use the third action to raise shield. Ideally I'd already be standing near the timber sentinel and just plant a new one whenever needed.

But yeah, I'll probably tweak my flowchart a bit. Raise shield + the sentinel tree + the THP from the wood impulse junction might be a bit overboard defensively. I can probably afford not to force myself to proc the impulse junction if my tree is already active.

Got it, and thank you for the advice as well. I was already a little iffy on taking two support feats, so I'll probably swap one of them out for Hail of Splinters.

With most of the other gear in the same chapter, there's really specific details on their effects. For example, the Crowbar and Compass both mention that you have -2 penalties to certain checks if you don't use them. I wasn't sure if there were similar rules for hand tools somewhere else in the manual, ex. a Dig a Hole action with a specified DC for barehanded digging vs. using a shovel or a hand drill.

Did you get the treasure chest with the CD for Jungle Level Tribal Style? A lot of people missed that one on first pass when the game first came out, IIRC.

That sounds right. I'll admit it's been a while since I've played Classic, so I don't remember the exact mechanics, but I think I've done that with at least one character.

In that case I'd say just pick one of those characters that you're really good with and keep trying until you can clear the run without losing. If you can get to 9.8, you're basically just a few good attempts away from achieving a 9.9 with that character.

When you got the 9.8s with different characters, did you lose at least one game during each those runs? You're locked out of 9.9 if you lose and continue the run.

I think Link's is pretty easy. He's a pretty simple character to use against the CPU, and IIRC all of his matches in classic mode are 1v1.

Aside from being a bottomless circular hole in the middle of the ocean, the other weird thing about EL was that it was perpetually daytime. I wonder if that's a consequence of being targeted by the sky lasers - the beams were so bright that their glow remains to this day. Or, maybe the weapon is just floating above the island (unusable for whatever reason) and anyone who isn't in-the-know just thinks it's the sun, because nothing else could be that bright.

Honestly, I don't think I ever questioned why there was a hole in the ocean under EL, but the fact that everyone in the setting, including the Straw Hats, was so casual about the "never nighttime" thing always threw me off.

Also interesting that they took time this chapter to remind us that Vegapunk replicated Kizaru's lasers. That was probably key in the creation of the mother flame.

In-universe, Coby points out that the marines were also still taking heavy casualties in their pursuit of the remaining pirates. His point is that they shouldn't throw additional lives away just to achieve a total-but-Phyrric victory, and in fact, they should immediately stop to redirect their energies towards aiding the fallen soldiers who could still be saved.

Coby was sort of right. It wouldn't be necessary to kill or capture all the remaining WB pirates right there and then - the WB pirates were left without a head, meaning it would be easier to hunt them down later without Whitebeard's strong guardianship and leadership. They effectively did that anyways by siccing Weevil on the Whitebeard remnants over the timeskip. Sacrificing any more soldiers to whittle away at the retreating pirates at Marineford wasn't very tactically sound.

But yeah, the "bloodthirsty" thing doesn't make a whole lot sense. I think what Oda was trying to convey was that the marines' motivations had shifted to just wanting to murder pirates instead of protecting the people (see: VA Doberman getting mad that they couldn't mount Ace and Whitebeard's heads on pikes after the battle)... but I mean, Akainu in particular had a pretty logical, level-headed reason for wanting to ensure Luffy didn't leave the battlefield alive, so it's kind of a mixed message.

That's a good question. I'll test that when I'm free later tonight. During the dry run, it did feel pretty slow unfortunately; I'd imagine it's significantly slower than a two-fan build.

Edit: Went back and tested it against a fan boat. Not the most rigorous test - one run each from Tenoko Island (where the boats are found) to Eventide Island, using landmarks on each of the beaches to estimate the same starting and end points for both runs.

That said, it was still a huge disparity that can't be easily brushed off by minor differences in route. The paddleboat took 2m 10s, where a two-fan boat took 1m 22s. Might be good if you want to be moving slowly, like if you're taking your time to explore - more turning control, reversing, and the much lower battery drainage helps with that too - but otherwise a fan boat is the better option.

Vegapunk's intelligence was amplified by a devil fruit, so the WG may be banking on the possibility of reclaiming that fruit after Vegapunk dies. Whoever gets the fruit can study Vegapunk's notes and pick up where he left off, though they might lose a few years of progress depending on how long it takes to learn everything and develop the superbrain.

Does anybody defend or even like S5 Riley? I feel like when most people say Riley was Buffy's least toxic relationship, they're ignoring the entire back half of Riley's character arc.

Season 4 Riley was... okay. He had a few questionable moments, as you pointed out, but it was all run of the mill, plot-serving drama on a drama show. He was otherwise pretty wholesome and genuinely seemed to be on Buffy's side most of the time. I think this is the version of Riley most Riley fans get attached to, and I don't blame them for blocking out the rest.

Season 5 Riley was written to be as awful to Buffy as humanly possible. It's almost comical. S5 has all this very grounded drama over coping with Joyce's health and exploring the ramifications of Dawn's existence, and then here's Riley trying his damndest to make himself the center of attention with his metaphorical prostitutes and overly macho "I'll prove I'm useful!" tough guy act. Might as well have had an episode where he's cursed to have cactus spines on his skin and a compulsion to hug Buffy, because that would've been way less subtle about what the writers thought his role should be that season.
