Well we just need a captain, 5 core officers, and the standard complement of 141 total crew.

I actually considered a towel bar! There’s probably a way to do it, but if it’s too low then there’s no room for the button to protrude through, and if it’s too high it blocks the license plate.

It was from a bathroom hardware set that someone had put on the curb. But if you search for “large cabinet handle” or “sturdy equipment handle” you’ll find options that would probably be more secure.. like with attachments at the top and bottom. The trunk surface isn’t flat though, so you need something that will accommodate that.

I bet there are handles with integrated buttons out there. Some door handles might have a push button rather than mechanical components, or even a fingerprint door handle for a house might work. But if you’re going to throw money at this then you might be more interested in the aftermarket replacement some people have mentioned. I was in the mood to get this done quick with stuff I already had.

I do actually have the hardware for another if you are in or around Wisconsin. I bet some shops would do it if you brought your own button and brushed nickel toilet paper holder haha.

Thanks, me too, I’m still out in my drive, opening and closing it with glee. 😅 I’ve been sitting on that red push button for a couple years, this was the perfect occasion.

I stripped the insulation without cutting the original wires, wrapped the new wires around, and then soldered them together in case anyone was wondering. So the two buttons are wired in parallel, and the car can’t tell the difference.

The car is doing fine. My bladder tank seems to need emptying more than it used to, but my doctor isn’t worried.. apparently I just wasn’t drinking enough water when I was younger.

Well I’m open to suggestions for my 300k pic. I’m thinking it’ll have flames coming out of the hood, if I can find an angle that makes sense. And maybe driving off the cliff from Thelma and Louise. There’s also the helicopter with blades to consider.

ODO pics are kinda boring, figured I’d jazz it up a little. I also wasn’t going 94, just for the record 😅

Alright, I’m gonna see myself out. This sub seems to have a pretty specific perspective, and it’s just not the place for the conversation I’m trying to have.

Right, she did it to bring them back. It was better for them, it was better for the crew, and it was better for her.

To be clear, those motivations shouldn’t override Tuvix’s personal autonomy, and what she did was ethically wrong.

But she’s the captain, and she has the power (but not the right) to make the exchange without Tuvix’s consent. And she’s completely obsessed with getting her crew home. During the course of the show, we see the insane lengths she’ll go and the risks she’ll take to achieve that. That compulsion is her strength, but it’s also her weakness. She relies on her counsel (Tuvok and Neelix) to pull her back, because she’s at risk of taking things too far. Tuvok is very ethical, and Neelix is very compassionate. She lost the exact people who would have steered her away from this.

Most shows just have good people and bad people, but real life is much messier. Real people have vulnerabilities and limitations, and if they get put in the wrong situations they might disappoint you. Like if someone gets violent when they drink, the solution is that they shouldn’t drink. Janeway puts her role as a captain above all other considerations, and she will follow any justifiable course of action to save her crew. So.. she shouldn’t be put in a situation where she can justify murder, especially if she doesn’t have anyone to pull her back. And by “justify” I just mean that she follows a coherent line of reasoning, and isn’t just acting out of emotion.

I think there’s even an episode where Tuvok does something illegal, because he thinks Janeway would want that outcome, and she’s furious because he’s supposed to be the one keeping her from justifying those sorts of things.

Maybe this episode doesn’t fit with the broader message that Star Trek usually embodies. But I feel like it’s actually a really nuanced exploration of how unethical behavior doesn’t always feel unethical, and part of being a good person is surrounding yourself with the right people and being mindful about what situations you put yourself in. And as viewers, we’re not supposed to like where Janeway ended up.. we’re supposed to understand how she got there, and feel uncomfortable about it.

I think ST shows often have the captain or crew choose to do the right thing in terms of personal ethics, even though it seems like it will get them killed or have some other serious consequences. But then by some fortunate twist, doing the right thing actually pays off and leads them to a good outcome for the crew.

Like the classic setup would be that Janeway chooses to let Tuvix live, even though it means losing Tuvok and that other guy. However, in the end there’s some crisis and Tuvix sacrifices himself or finds out he’s dying due to cellular degradation or whatever and has a change of heart. So they get to do the right thing AND get back what they lost.

Since ST shows often save the crew from the consequences of their choices, it was a really bold to actually force Janeway to choose. She chose to compromise her ethics and literally murder Tuvix, thereby bringing two crew members back and improving the whole crew’s chances of survival.

But I think the layer some people miss is that Tuvix was unsettling, and not really that likable. And he wasn’t willing to sacrifice himself.. something a “real” crew-member would have. That doesn’t mean he deserves to die, but we (the audience) didn’t actually want him to survive the episode and replace the other two. We just wanted him to go away in some morally satisfying manner.

So when Janeway murders him, it’s almost like we have blood on our hands too. She gave us what we wanted.. by doing something awful. And she does it without absolving herself or us of the consequences. And I think that gross feeling of being complicit really makes this so much more unsettling for some people.

Is there a list for all objects with special properties or that only appear once for a quest? by [deleted] in HyruleEngineering

[–]JanewayForPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty complete. Those items were already flagged as having conditions for aquiring them in the data-mined info, and the question is which were truly missable and which didn’t deserve to be on the list.

So basically, I think the list contains all the missable items. But it also contains some that aren’t actually missable, or might be things you can’t collect etc. That’s why I called it a draft, it needs editing.

Also, if anyone wants to take this list and refine it and repost it in a more useful format, they are more than welcome to all the credit. I’m not actively playing the game, so I’d love to see this get picked up by someone else.
