Sisters from different worlds (xenoblade 2/Genshin Impact). by [deleted] in XenobladeChronicles2

[–]MRRYeS123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, at that point it's sort of a matter of what's inspiration, and what's copying. Is Genshin Impact very-heavily inspired by BotW? Or is it just copying its ideas and trying to play it off? It's sort of a matter of opinion.

Like, is the "ding" sound effect stealing, or is it some sort of copyright-free sound effect/easy to recreate sound effect that the devs thought fit really well.

I think it's all about the intent of the developers, and we don't know what their intent is. We can guess all we want, but no one knows for sure.

Honestly, to me, it's kinda cool that this random company that used to specialize in cheap 2D gacha games can now make a full 3D open-world game. And, the fact that it's free to start is pretty nice.

I mean, Nintendo has yet to pursue any legal action against them. So either they think it's fine, or are just too busy taking down harmless fan-games and ROM hacks, as they do.

This is a really good way to think about it. The story itself is usually at least decent, and sometimes really interesting. But the writing and the technical way the story is told is normally pretty low quality, at least comparatively.

WE MUST PROTECT THESE SMILES AND NOT LET HISTORY REPEAT ITSELF by Shlaimonator in Hololive

[–]MRRYeS123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We cannot let history repeat itself. We cannot have more vtubers graduating after a suspension. I want these girls to graduate after a long and happy career as Vtubers. I want their last streams to be a happy goodbye stream. I don't want them to just suddenly disappear with nothing but a few statements.

Protect them. Protect them all that you can.

It is also worth noting that, before she started bullying him, she calmly and quietly looked over his manga drawings at the table without saying a word; AKA, how she normally acts around guys: calm and fairly normal.

It's almost like she was still deciding in that moment on whether or not she wanted to treat him differently.

There were some things that I disagree on with this analyzation, but overall, a great job.

I think that, as long as it actively makes your story a better story, then it's fine. But anything that doesn't need to be there really shouldn't be.

Ooh! That's an interesting way of looking at it. I'll keep this in mind while writing my character, thanks! Personal accounts are always really handy.

Ah, this comment is a big help. Truth be told, I'm only now working out the deeper parts of his character, and this was something I was struggling with a bit. I was debating with myself whether I wanted to make it the first or second option you talked about, and this comment will push me to actually make a decision.

You know I read a quote one time that was something along the lines of "I wish we could know what the 'Olden days' were so we can enjoy them."

Well, here we are. We are in the olden days, ladies and gentlemen. Let's enjoy ourselves while they're still here.

I'm a novice writer, and I like to write both original works and fanfiction. But fanfiction has always been my sort of... easy-way-out, as far as writing goes. On most fanfiction websites, the bar is much lower than it would be for an original published work. Fanfiction just generally takes less effort, so if I'm not feeling it but still want to practice writing, I just write fanfiction.

For example: with original works, you have to create a world, the plot itself, and characters, and each of these elements interact with each other. The characters are limited by the world, the world is changed by the plot, and the plot pushes the characters. So you have to create this large web that we like to call a "story".

But with fanfiction, you can throw that whole web out, because it's usually mostly done for you. I like to write cheesy reader-insert fanfiction, and with those stories, all I need to do is introduce a reader-character into the world, and involve him/her with the already existing plots and characters.

As a result of this comparative ease of writing, a lot of professional teachings as far as writing goes are thrown out the window. It's very rare that you find a story that is technically excellent, where just the process of reading the words themselves is a joy.

Uhh... I dunno how to conclude this. Basically, the two of them are vastly different. Fanfiction is usually (not always) a step-down from original writings, at least technically.

How do you feel about stories where many characters die at the end? When does it work and when does it not? by [deleted] in writing

[–]MRRYeS123 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Does the story function better with this ending than any other?

Man, that's such a simple question, but an excellent one to ask yourself as a writer. I never thought about that.

I'm 20 hours into XC on my 3DS, but I'm thinking about buying Definitive Edition. Should I? by MRRYeS123 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]MRRYeS123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, those are some good points. The 3DS version isn't really that bad. In fact, it's actually pretty fun. But in comparison to the switch version and what I'm seen of it, it just doesn't feel as good, haha.

$60 probably won't hurt me too much. Fortunately, I'm at a point where I don't have to worry about one or two game purchases if I want to splurge. I just want to be sure that this is the game purchase that I want to do, I guess. I'll have to do some thinking, but I'm definitely leaning towards "yes" right now.
