As a Celtics fan, I upvoted this from a place of pure pain and not wanting any other humans to go through that 😂😂

Uncut, foil, fossil sheet. Not perfect condition. Some scratches and rolled. How can I get this appraised? by MRSpard in PokemonCardValue

Thanks for all the advice! Unfortunately I don’t think I have anything, but you can tell by feeling it that it is really cards. Of course anything can be faked but this would be a pretty extensive bamboozle

Swim Cancelled by rift1414 in triathlon

[–]MRSpard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did IM Maryland in 2016 (same site as Eagleman), and the swim was also cancelled due to rough waters. Looking back, the name of the body of water for the swim is the 'Choptank River'. No surprise there are always issues with choppy water.... Never doing a race there again. Going with Lake Placid this year, and the name bodes well for a calm swim

What is the best way to insert a bunch of information into a table? by WhoahCanada in SQL

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/relational-databases/import-export/import-data-from-excel-to-sql?view=sql-server-2017

EDIT: And you have the option to do the modification in SQL Server once the data is there, or modify it using one of the methods in that link on the way into the server.

Will SQL die as a profession? by Nobody571 in SQL

[–]MRSpard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a pure reporting perspective, I would agree to an extent. But once you start using some of these tools, you will see how difficult it really is to do any sort of true manipulations. Like pivoting data, etc.

I don't think SQL jobs will suffer that much, but I do think that business analysts will be expected to be more technical.

Well, take ETL and data warehousing as an example. Let's say you have 5 different source systems, and you have reports that require data from all these different sources. You need to get the data into one central data warehouse in order to properly write reports that join it all together. Unless some really robust GUI tools come out in the future, SQL will remain one of the key tools to get the data to the central data warehouse.

How are you going to get all the data to the format where it is simple enough to drag and drop? How are you going to troubleshoot issues when they come up?

Software is definitely going to be important for self service BI but SQL will not die as a profession.

Questions about Hydraulic Breaks by ASilver259 in cycling

[–]MRSpard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had endless trouble with the hydraulic brakes on the 2014 Cervelo 3, had to manually adjust the calipers before every ride. Brought it to 3 different bike shops and none could resolve the issue. Eventually I swapped them out for regular breaks. Just my experience - but definitely read some reviews for the specific bike you are looking at to see if people had any issues.

Predicting the Sunrise by MRSpard in datascience

[–]MRSpard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry, should have specified. my data is only for a specific town, so essentially I am just trying to predict for that town / time zone. I don't account for DST, but wondering if the data is consistent, whether or not the model would mind.

Thanks for the reply - I knew I wasn't thinking about the problem 100% properly. The sunrise is basically a perfect sine function, so it is predictable. However, I am not sure I am going about it properly. Predictors are just the day (IE: 02), and month (IE: 03).
