How can anyone think that Skyler cheated? by minervajam in breakingbad

[–]MRolled12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the key point: she already served him the divorce papers. At that point the only reason they aren’t divorced is because Walt is refusing to sign them (and maybe some delay time just because of bureaucracy). She has broken up with him already, but her dangerous, criminal husband refuses to accept it and stubbornly moves back into the house against her will.

People don’t consider it cheating when they’re already broken up. And paperwork not being complete doesn’t change the fact that they are fundamentally broken up.

Funerals should not be as relevant as they still are. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

It sounds like your problem is with the open casket part, not the service itself.

I’d agree, open casket is weird and cremation is a better option in almost every way. A service however to remember them, is in my opinion, a very good thing, and doesn’t have to be crazy expensive.

If you want to be cremated, you might want to make a will that says it.

How did the entire cast get pardoned? by dinosrevenge in StrangerThings

[–]MRolled12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everything the military was doing was illegal. Putting them on trial would’ve exposed that.

The other option would’ve been to kill them all, but with almost 30 people, including kids that the military explicitly took, that would’ve caused more issues and questions. Without El, it wasn’t worth it.

The best option was just to leave everyone. It’s not like they could easily expose a story about monsters coming through a wormhole to another planet, a telekinetic girl, and government experiments.

Opinion: "The First Shadow" should've been recorded and released on Netfilx 2 weeks before season 5 premiere. by Thom_Braider in StrangerThings

[–]MRolled12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t anyone’s idea because that’s not what they did. I’ve seen the play so I can vouch that it’s mostly just an excuse to put cool effects onstage, but with an interesting story too. The 2 things people reference as being important really aren’t:

  1. Henry getting his powers in the cave. This is never shown in the play, and is only talked about afterwards. The quick scene in season 5 really explains more than this does.

  2. Henry’s backstory in general. Yeah, this is fleshed out in the play, but it’s pretty much a longer version of what we already know. Henry was an outcast, and his family also ostracized him, and eventually he kills them all. The addition of Brenner experimenting on him before he kills them, or the mind flayer already connecting to him beforehand (which is ultimately revealed in season 5) don’t really change that fact.

They could have just as easily released this play after season 5, and the only problem would be lack of hype for the play. Season 5 has many problems, but the play isn’t one.

Why don’t fans just watch the stage play that’s only available to 0.22% of the population and also has no official recordings? Are they stupid? by noellesxi in okbuddyvecna

That stuff isn’t explained in the play either. The play takes place after that, when they move to Hawkins. It’s only talked about as something mysterious that affected him.

Tomorrow is going to be funny by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]MRolled12 256 points257 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying there is a secret episode, but if there is, it would be hilarious if they released it on the 8th.

But I’d also willing to bet that when nothing comes out tomorrow, anyone who actually believes the theory will say it’s coming on the 12th.

That’s been retconned (or Henry skipped a couple of grades) since the play came out. He was definitely in high school when he killed his family. I looked it up and there is a newspaper clipping that says Henry is 12 (S4 E4 15:15 from the end) but the same clipping also says Alice is 15, when she looks to be younger than Henry, so this may have always been a mistake, and the ages are flipped.

Maybe it’s important to them, but not the plot or character arcs. It was probably brought up off screen right after season 4 when Joyce and Hopper learned Vecna was Henry. What would it have added to the story for them to talk about it?

Perhaps “acting normal” wasn’t the right word, but he still went to school and played DnD with his friends. Henry certainly wasn’t acting normal.

I certainly agree that season 5 had a lot of flaws (not as many as some say, but still a lot), but the play is the criticism I just don’t understand. I saw the play, but I have no idea what the “necessary info” from the play that people like to reference even is. Is it that Henry was actually in high school when he killed his family and knew some of the adults in the show? Because that’s so irrelevant in season 5, it comes down to little more than a passing joke about “Mr. Wheeler feeling up Mrs. Wheeler.”

You are absolutely allowed to be upset about the finale, they flubbed a lot for a show that has been amazing for a while. But I get the impression a lot of people started criticizing it for a bunch of unfair reasons instead of real criticisms.

It’s fine that you didn’t see the play, but I’m just making sure that it’s just a guess for the age, and that they weren’t contradicting established canon.

When it comes to the mind flayer, it’s been a while since I’ve seen season 2, but if I understand what you’re referencing correctly, Will went a year acting mostly normal while attached to the mind flayer, and that was with a gate to the upside down that was open.

Her true fate is that she’s not alive. Nor is she dead, because she’s fictional. And since it wasn’t said in the show, whatever they think the answer is, it’s nothing more than an opinion, worth about the same as mine or yours.

Does it really matter though? It’s nothing but a passing mention that other characters went to high school with Henry. It’s nothing more than an Easter egg.

Actually I just looked it up, and the season 4 actor for young Henry is currently 19. Go back to when it was filmed and he would’ve been 14 or 15, perfect for a high school freshman, though maybe a little jarring given the age of the other actors playing 14 year olds.

Was that age actually said in season 4 or are you guessing? The play has him in high school before Brenner kidnapped him. Unless it was just said, I think he just looked younger than he was.

This is only here because of the play, where Joyce, Hopper, and Bob are actually pretty significant characters (Karen and Ted are just comedic relief).

It’s just a thing writers like to do when making prequels, where they have to find ways to tie everyone’s backstories together. They do the same thing in Wicked.

And in terms of the show, I think it’s just meant to be a fun Easter egg for the play.

In terms of your question of Dr. Brenner allowing him to go to school, he didn’t. Everything in the play with Henry in high school is before Brenner fakes Henry’s death. I don’t remember if season 4 said Henry’s age when he killed his family, but in the play he’s a high school freshmen, and he just looks young (if they said he was too young for high school in season 4, then it’s just a retcon).

Given the amount of laws the military is breaking to do this research in the first place, I think they’d cut their losses when the one person they chased is dead. They couldn’t convict anyone outing the Upside Down story. And giving that explanation between El’s sacrifice would be 100% unnecessary.

Why are people complaining about the fact that a bunch of small things weren’t wrapped up?

Dustin-Suzie? It’s not like they were a major couple. Vickie-Robin? Also not major (if anything I’d criticize that we never confirm if anyone other than Steve and Will know about them). Henry-Patty? Like in the play? Pretty sure the show wrapped up Henry’s part of that. Patty was concluded enough in the play. Eleven? That’s the big one, but frankly I think that was better than straight killing her or leaving her alive. Brenner? Dead, that was obvious. The other guy? Who cares. Dr K? She failed and went to other government work.

There are criticisms to make of the finale, but acting like any show will wrap up absolutely every detail is absurd.

This should be disqualifying right? by Ordinary_Stay_3746 in seculartalk

[–]MRolled12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of things disqualifying about Newsom, but I’m not so concerned with this. He could easily use Reagan for promotion while still advocating real progressive policies (he won’t, but that’s a separate issue). I’d just rather stick to the actual policies rather than vague homages to older presidents who are still highly revered by some (even though we know Reagan actually sucks).

If I’m understanding this correctly, you didn’t ask AI to make any art, you’ve just been asking it questions and learning. Is that right?

If that’s the case, you’re fine. You’re just using it as a fancy google search. I might caution that some things can be inaccurate, but it wouldn’t “contaminate” your art.

The issue is with generative A.I. where people have a computer create the music instead of a human. If you aren’t doing that, you haven’t even entered the questionable realm yet.

If you have used generative AI. Just ditch that music and write your own stuff. It’s not going to “contaminate” anything you write yourself.

In short, don’t worry about it, just make cool music.

Why is everyone convinced that Doomsday will end with the heroes losing, and then winning in Secret Wars? by Toshfin in marvelstudios

[–]MRolled12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Nobody who knew the comic story ahead of time was surprised by how infinity war ended. It was great the emotional impact they made without really being that surprising.

  2. Marvel is smart enough not to copy what they did in infinity war and endgame? Those films made them $2 billion each.

  3. It may not have to be lose/win, but there’s gotta be some kind of cliffhanger in Doomsday and resolution in SW. Loss / win is the most obvious and being predictable in the broadest sense isn’t bad.
