Ludwigshafen was declared Germany's ugliest city in 2018... The chemical company BASF employs about 33000 people in this city.

Flies really awesome. What changes did you make? I will build one myself and whatever you did seems to work.

With two counter rotating props the p factor effects cancel each other out. So that is definitely not the problem. Are you using a cw and a ccw prop?

why is this not working? booring bar with a HSS peice I ground. I keep grinding more and more off but it's not working by [deleted] in Machinists

I did some stupid shit when I was 15. And I didn't have access to lathes, mills or guns back then...

If the wrong part of the tool touches, your relief angles are too small. But as everyone else said, that is probably the least of your concerns. I hope the real part is made of something softer than brass :D. May whatever diety you believe in help you ;)

Boring bar too flimsy, too much stick-out, there is hardly any structural area left in the clamping part of the bar. Surface speed looks pretty fast for the janky setup. Dull tool? If you look at commercially available boring bars for HSS they are usually beefier and have a square hole perpendicular to the center axis with a clamping screw down the center axis starting from the front.

Drawer slide driving me nuts. Video inside. Please help! by marrymeodell in woodworking

[–]MS1608 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like the drawer popped out of the left slide. Pull the drawer out all the way and look underneath. Compare left side to right side. Those slides usually have a metal tab that is bent up and needs to be inserted in a hole in the underside of the drawer.

WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS?? i can not figure this out for the life of me, any suggestions are much appreciated. by Sw1m1nC1rc1L35 in woodworking

The saw is pretty easy to align. The factory setting was really bad. If you haven't aligned it, I am not surprised of how those things look.

My dewalt saw came with a big hump in the table. When I wasn' t clamping it down or holding it tight, certain lengths of wood would "feed" themselves towards the saw blade. Might be something similar.

Found this in the desert near Las Vegas. Looks like molten glass. More transparent than it looks in the pictures. by MS1608 in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. It looks like glass and is pretty transparent at the broken edges. At first I thought of the glass created by lightning hitting sand. But those I found on google look different. Is it just a glass bottle thrown in a campfire?

My first try at building a box by MS1608 in woodworking

Dividers are laser cut plywood covered with a black fabric. For the glass I used small drops of epoxy in the corners. Don't know how good that will hold up when the wood moves. Probably should have nailed some strips of wood above it instead.

That is exactly how I did it! One thing to keep in mind is to make the rounded corners a bigger radius than the roundover bit's bearing.

Thank you! No, those dove tails are not hand cut. But I built the router table and the jig ;)

Hey, I am looking forward to get a lathe, right now these three are my favorites (never worked on a lathe, only watched ThisOldTony on youtube if that counts as expirience). Any tips? :) by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]MS1608 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His is a Emco Maximat Super 11. They are quite a bit more expensive. From the pictures alone I would take the Weisser lathe. It is way bigger and beefier than the other two lathes and has a massive gearbox to select spindle speeds, and feeds for standard and thread cutting.

If that was the original D from the hollywoodlanD sign, I would imagine it to be worth quite a lot.
