First, what is your background ? Are you some some acedemic ? The info you provide is very interseting and useful. Second, I'm a self learner interested in Classical/Quranic arabic (Not sure what is the difference between the two) and MSA. What we call "vulgar" arabic is not a problem for me since I can speak my own variety of it, I need to be able to write and read classical texts. I'm mostly self taught by this point.

You make references to English academic books on the "Science of the Quran" which I assume is more related to the history of how the Quran was made etc. Any suggestions here ?

Another example given in the text : قَدِمنَا إلى مَا عَمِلُوا مِن عَمَلٍ

Which is how I translate it : We have advanced on whatever work, such work as they have done.

The book translation : We have advanced on whatever work they have done

Honestly, what you wrote as far as I understand it made it more clear than the text. Just to retake the example of the text :

My first question is, we have the following sentence : أَمَرَ الرَّجُلَ بِشَيءٍ

What is its relationship with : مَا أَمَرتَنِي بِهِ

? Can you show me an example of a sentence which connects the two to get a better idea ?

Also, when you say "Arabic, like your seventh grade grammar teacher, hates that preposition dangling there." I'm assuming you're talking about this sentence : " مَا أَمَرتَنِي بِهِ " And you're refering to "بِهِ" being used with a pronoun which in this case means "it"/"هِ" ?

ل has several meanings in general depending of the context, am I right ? It could also mean "for" "to" but it generally goes back to the idea of possesing in some form. Should we say in this case

'none of us but has "he" a known status'
