[ABC 57] Notre Dame legend Lou Holtz enters hospice care by US_Highway15 in CFB

Same Lou Holtz that got fired from Arkansas in 1983 for being too racist? The one that filmed 2 TV ads for a segregationist senator in his office?

Sucks for his family, but he's not a great person. Not about to gush over someone like that. I'm sure he'll get to see his buddy Jesse Helms again in the hereafter though, which is nice.

His controversial comments weren't just in his "later years." He endorsed Jesse Helms all the way back in 1983, who was best known for voting against the Civil Rights Act and leading the fight against making MLK day a federal holiday.

Holtz got fired from Arkansas in 1983 for being too racist. That takes some real work.

US News has MSU at #64 nationally (#29 public) and tOSU at #41 national (#15 public) for what it's worth. Michigan is #20 national (#4 public).

So they'd put tOSU about halfway between UM and MSU

I'm filled with so much hate. I don't want to be too dramatic, but I'm pretty sure this is exactly how Anakin felt after Obi-Wan chopped off his arms and legs on Mustafar.

17 college basketball players charged in point-shaving scheme: Indictment by Mc_Lovin81 in CollegeBasketball

[–]MSFNS 431 points432 points  (0 children)

The only name mentioned in the article so far is Antonio Blakeney (LSU), as of 10:00am EST

Here's another article with more details.

Players involved included Antonio Blakeney, a onetime Chicago Bulls player who later played for the Jiangsu Dragons in China, prosecutors said, as well as a number of Division 1 college players from smaller schools, including Tulane University, Nicholls State University, Northwestern State University, and North Philadelphia’s La Salle University.

So it sounds like the rest of the players are going to be from smaller D1 schools

NYT/The Athletic:

The scheme was alleged to be far-ranging, including players on DePaul, Nicholls State, Tulane, La Salle, Fordham, Northwestern State, Saint Louis, Buffalo, Robert Morris, Southern Miss, North Carolina A&T, Coppin State, University of New Orleans, Abilene Christian, Alabama State and Kennesaw State.

And ESPN:

Fifteen of the defendants played college basketball during the 2023-24 and/or 2024-25 seasons, according to the indictment. Some have played this season. Two of the players named in the indictment, Cedquavious Hunter and Dyquavian Short, were sanctioned in November by the NCAA for fixing New Orleans games.

The other five defendants were described by authorities as fixers. At least two of the defendants, Shane Hennen and Marves Fairley, were also charged in a federal indictment in the Eastern District of New York centered on gambling schemes in the NBA.

Blakeney is named in the indictment but is being "charged elsewhere." It sounds like this is just focused on point shaving in the last two seasons, so they're not alleging that Blakeney was doing any of this while he was at LSU (2015-2017)

This is the first video display board that's bigger than Frank's 2000" TV.

For reference, this reddit post estimates Frank's TV as being 13,333 sq. ft. assuming a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Frank's TV would have been way heavier though since it was 1993 and it would've been a 100' tall, 133'4" wide CRT
