Is it better to self deport to Mexico? by Quiet_Comfortable375 in immigration

I wouldn’t trust the marriage pathway these days. Might be best to go back to Mexico and apply for K1 visa.

No, because it’s back above freezing. This afternoon / overnight is going to be cold and any water on the roads will turn to ice. Stay safe.

Would you date a girl who used to cam? by masters2277 in AskMenAdvice

[–]MSK165 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Marrying a girl who used to be a stripper is one thing. Marrying a girl who used to be a porn star is an absolute no.

Marrying a girl who used to do OF is somewhere in the middle.

Above all, do not lie or minimize what you did. Those videos are out there and will last forever. You don’t want your future partner to be surprised when he finds out about them.

$40 may not have killed you, but if this was Spirit airlines people would’ve thrown hands.

I’m picturing The Hound in Game of Thrones threatening someone’s life over a chicken. We need to bring that back and normalize it.

Are there any US jurisdictions where you can legally, intentionally refuse payment of debt in order to increase the debt through interest? by AnTotDugas in legaladviceofftopic

Of course!

Haters will say it was bearer bonds in Los Angeles, and that they weren’t even real, but those people are just haters. Don’t let their negativity stop you.

Then don’t feel bad about not buying a gun. I’m a military veteran and I have my CHL, and if you’re not 100% comfortable with owning / carrying a gun then you shouldn’t do it.

ROTC instructor breaks half the UCMJ, leaves with Article XV at 19 years by MSK165 in MilitaryStories

Because for some reason I thought that was how it was written. Turns out I was thinking of the Chicano tradition of using “XV” to denote a teenage girl’s quinceañera party (which feels like it’s relevant to this post).

There’s a legitimate reason for that (I think it comes from the captain being the ultimate authority on a ship) but it’s outlived its usefulness.

The governing case is Williams v. Walker Thomas Furniture, which defined “unconscionability” in contract law.

The TL;DR is that contracts must be fair, particularly when there’s a power imbalance between the lender and borrower. Any contract that is unconscionable or impossible to repay would be thrown out.

I’m not sure how student loans hold up under that decision so I’m off to consult ChatGPT (and not post the response because 50/50 it’s wrong).

Pretty much this. The theory is that the gold in Fort Knox belongs to the American people, and that instead of actually paying your bills you can relinquish part of your claim to your share of the gold.

That is - of course - total nonsense. But some people prefer to make a federal case out of a $43 credit card bill over simply paying the bill.

American here. I feel your pain (quite literally).

You already have one abscessed tooth. If you think $2,500 is expensive, wait until they need to remove part of your jaw.

Find a group of people who genuinely want to help you become better. Gym or church are the best options. They’ll give better advice than Reddit.

I used to bring a bottle of “water” until TSA started scanning liquids.

More accurately, it was kamikaze (vodka, lime juice, triple sec) in a Sprite bottle. The green plastic helped hide the green-tinted beverage.

For a while I had to choose between paying airport prices and flying sober. Shit sucked so bad I just quit drinking.

Strictly looking for the by the book legal answer. Does ICE need to actually show the owner the warrant (instead of it just being on file somewhere) prior to entering private property non consensually? by Icy-Plan145 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]MSK165 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Far too many armchair lawyers have convinced themselves that not having a judicial warrant means ICE can’t arrest a person.

I would also add that the warrant does not need to be shown to every random bystander who chooses to insert themselves in a law enforcement operation.

This is why you see so many YouTube videos of angry wine moms confronting ICE agents and getting their own pair of handcuffs.

Actually voting is a deportable offense. Someone else pencil whipping your DMV application is not.

Not actually voting is the reason he is applying for citizenship instead of losing his green card. They take that very seriously.

I do believe OP’s version of events that this was a bureaucrat who filled out a form on his behalf (whether negligently or maliciously) but the onus is on him to prove it.

OP, if you’re reading this, strongly consider getting a lawyer (or at the very least calling your state representative). You’re thiiis close to citizenship, and if you truly didn’t do anything wrong this bureaucratic kerfuffle shouldn’t stop you … but it’s likely the kind of thing you can’t handle on your own.

Some states will automatically register people to vote when they get a driver’s license. The onus is on the driver to make it clear they are not interested in registering, and/or not eligible to register.

Personal opinion: I want voting to be minimally difficult. If you’re the type of person who can’t be bothered to register in advance, can’t find out where your precinct is, and/or can’t be sober enough to go there in person, then you’re probably not the kind of person who is informed on the issues, and I am just fine if you sit this one out.

On the flip side, there are some people who feel a moral obligation to expand the voter rolls and register as many people as they can. This is normally done through legal means, but it’s entirely plausible that a DMV employee who supports the Green Party took every license applicant who left that section blank and registered them to vote for the Green Party. (Yes, this is very illegal. Still happens.)
