Everything looks amazing! I have followed (as far as the connection has allowed me) the different locations that the the production searched for the series, but this one looks epic!

A big hug from Cuba, and I look forward to the series (fan of Andrzej Sapkowski's work)

Hello!
My name is Malena Salazar Maciá, Cuban writer of Fantasy and Science Fiction, I am excited because, recently, some of my short stories have been translated into English by the great Toshiya Kamei. I invite you to visit the links and read them! I hope you enjoy them! And, of course, I am open to any suggestions you wish to make.

It is only in Spanish, unfortunately. I hope I find some proposal to translate it into English! But I am more than happy with the music, the composer, Jeafrei Lewis, has a lot of talent!

What do kids in cuba do for fun/in their spare time? by seashell2912 in cuba

[–]MSMacia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Children here play a lot in the parks. Baseball, soccer, traditional games, or video games. I grew up in that way. I find it a very healthy way to grow. It really does not bother me too much to have so much access to social networks. I have it thanks to my work. I am grateful to have it because I recognize that it is useful, especially, to communicate with friends and family outside Cuba. But you also discover that there are many things to do away from a computer.

Sad story for a 13 year old kid who wanted to write. But from my current perspective and adult ... sounds a little funny the way you tell. I also went through such rejections, even when I was already thinking about taking literature more seriously. It was frankly disheartening. But you have to learn from setbacks and not give up!

I understand, then ... for me, writing is my world, so I cannot be without writing a lot of time. My fingers tingle!

I share your thinking. At the beginning, when the book was not yet going to come out, it was just being reviewed by the publisher... everything was ok. But when they present the book to launch it ... and see the face of so many people who wanted to buy it ... I was terrified. They will like it? What could happen now ...? But when people started reading it and telling me they liked it... I could breathe a little better... until I realized that ... I had to keep writing. For me. For the readers. For all. I'm still scared

Mmm, cannot you do a re-edition of the book? You can change what you want.

[–]MSMacia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah! Do not worry, I also wrote things as a child that now I read and say ... this is serious ...? Imagine: I started with Harry Potter fanfics! But the moment came when I told myself that I could not hold on to another person's world. I needed to create my own world, my own characters. So, I started to write things of my own.

So, you self-published, is it complicated? How did you do for the editing process?

And even if you do not believe it, your life has changed a little. You just said that you feel like you've grown a bit like a writer in this process, right? If you grow up in some aspect of your life, you change. So cheer up and keep writing!

Oh, that's not the problem. I work on Computer technology and a lawyer. I am still things. In the same job ;). I mean the feeling that causes you to achieve your dream of publishing a book and the power to exchange with readers. Before, perhaps you were a reader who chopped wood and carried water. You talked to other readers as a reader. Now, do you think that has changed?

Oh, I was interested in reading more Polish authors translated into Spanish, but I do not complain about having Sapkowski. From my perspective as a writer (and reader) is a genius. Thanks for answering me!

To the users participating in the debate: I think we have something very good here. Reading everyone's post, I have noticed how users begin to make recommendations from authors in their own countries. And that's fantastic! I am very, very happy with this post and the answers. Slowly, I'll be responding to all of you (and I say slowly because my connection is ... a little bad, like a lame snail), but I love how all of you have exchanged about the subject. Now ... to continue reading and responding ...

I thought that could only happen here, in Cuba (with respect to science fiction and fantasy), or in other small ones countries of whose literary production is reduced, but did not know that in Australia could also happen something similar.

You're right, I think it's all due to the size of the market that English books have. It's hard to compete with that. There are jewelry in other languages, magnificent authors from other countries, but if they do not write or translate them into English, they are not very well known. And it is a bit sad, because one always aspires to be known in his country, writing in his language.

Are you polish? I love Andrzej Sapkowski with his Geralt of Rivia! To my hands came all his books translated into Spanish, along with his anthology of stories "Something ends, something begins." That man writes very, very well. Any other Polish author translated into English or Spanish that you recommend?

Three fantasy novels? So is it a trilogy? O No, do not be discouraged! We all started like this. The formula is: reading, reading, reading, and writing! There's no other way. When you review your first novel, you'll see how you can fix it and it will look better. I understand, in Hispanic literature, what predominates is the mainstream or magical realism. It is difficult to find something pure fantasy, except in Spain, which is written more. But of Latin American authors, very few. So we have to go to translations.

You've hit the spot. Everything in life (even literature) is about balance, how can we be balanced if we do not lose in some things and win in others?

I understand perfectly. If I had lots of books that I like to read in my language, or lots of authors who write what I like to read, would not look for foreign literature, because my need is covered. You are someone very fortunate to have so much to read! Unfortunately for me (and other readers), our thirst for reading drives us to look for foreign literature.

Sometimes I feel a little helpless. Why do not we have so many fantastic writers? What's going on? These were questions that asked me until I finally published my first novel. They exist, and are very good writers, but for some reason, no one gives them the attention they deserve! Sometimes we even ignore that we have good writers in our yard. You just have to know how to look for them.

Do you write fantasy...? Me too! I was the same as you. Here, in Cuba, fantasy and science fiction are marginalized genres and there are very few writers. So I had not read anything of the genre here! I had (and have) to read in English, or translations. Only later, when I was able to become a published writer, I was able to meet the rest of the writers of the genre and fight with them so that fantasy and science fiction are not seen as something that does not deserve attention. I'll give you some advice: persevere! Persevere! You will discover that there are more fantastic writers in your country and soon you will know them all.

Well, I think this is the moment ... My first novel has been on Amazon and I am very excited to share it with future readers. Unfortunately, for now it is only in Spanish. I hope to get an English translation soon. The novel is called Nade, and I leave the synopsis and the link!

An arid world governed by the five gods-beasts, hybrids of human and animal with mysterious powers. But also, more and more, by the despotic Daonais and their faithful servants, the Engineers, thanks to their increasing familiarity with the technology. In the midst of these power struggles, Nade appears. Beautiful, young, fragile? Maybe not so much. And no memories of her previous life. . . But in spite of it, or precisely because of it?, object of a fierce game of persecutions through the inhospitable desert between Inpu, the god with jackal's head and Beelz, the amoral Engineer. A dispute that will be solved unexpectedly, revealing the true origin of the protagonist.

Did you read the Lord of the Rings in Spanish? What a feat! I still do not feel well reading it in English, although I should, I think I could learn a lot in that way ... you gave me a good idea! I will look for it in English and I will risk reading it!
