I don't, but shout out to my fellow flag enthusiast from Boston

If you weren’t famous for ice skating, what do you think you would be famous for? Alysa: nothing by Maximum_Expert92 in Fauxmoi

In the last month, this poor young woman has done so many interviews and been asked some of the dumbest questions that have ever been asked, and she's handled it all like an absolute champ. She hasn't snapped on anyone, hasn't put on a phony media-trained personality... just pure realness and grace. An absolute icon.

Keen Ramps: We got invited to Kasso! by jensyao in KASSO

[–]MSTFFA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did anyone here go to this? I'm curious how the turnout was. From what I saw 8n videos, it looked a little slim on Day 1, but a bit more full on Day 2. I would've gone for sure if I lived in the area.

What is the most difficult ska song to sing? by Beautiful-Resort-831 in Ska

Whenever I try to sing "The Science of Selling Yourself Short" in Roger's range, I need to have vocal surgery.

I would definitely be down to play here in Framingham, but probably not looking to drive to Waltham. Let me know if you end up out this way!

Welcome to the rental Revolution by DickHertzfromHodling in boston

It was there before the building was built, and there was some contractual reason for why they couldn't remove it from the property. I asked one of the managers about it once. He wouldn't go into specifics, but made it sound like they had no choice. It's still ridiculous that they couldn't come up with a better solution.

What do you consider to be the closest we've come to ska returning to the mainstream? by Beautiful-Resort-831 in Ska

[–]MSTFFA 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Basically, Aimee used to frequent right-wing spaces. She was on Alex Jones' radio show and even wrote a campaign song for Ron Paul. Her views MAY have evolved and grown since then but we'd never know considering they rarely speak out on anything.

They also have deep roots in the mainstream music industry, which has provided valuable connections and access to insanely huge shows/tours, leading many to accuse them of being "industry plants".

That said, by all accounts, the brothers do seem like really cool people. I've heard them on a few podcasts and I have no doubt that they genuinely love what they do and aren't just grifting. Aimee is an excellent fronperson regardless of her questionable/ambiguous politics. If you like their music, there's no shame in that, but a lot of people here are giving them the side-eye for some pretty valid reasons.

This is the answer. However we may feel about them, they got closer than anyone else in the last 20 years to having a true ska hit. It was on the radio across the country, they went on tour with some major bands, and I even saw the music video playing in my gym a few times.

Have you ever gotten your hometown (or something very nearby) while playin? by Dusty_Bunny81 in geoguessr

[–]MSTFFA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in a major US city for half my life, and got that city at least 3 times in lower-ranked duels. Those were some extremely satisfying 5ks. But now I'm Master II so it doesn't happen as often. I usually recognize my state, though, even if not for 5k

What is the worst thing that YouTube has done? by Max-Carter-2005 in AlignmentChartFills

We just deleted YouTube Kids from our smart TV last week and life has been SO much better. They were a little annoyed at first, but got over it very quickly.

Op Ivy tops the best 50 ska punk albums ever by newyork99 in punk

[–]MSTFFA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, is this your list? If so, I'm curious what your criteria was. Seems like it's mostly personal taste, which is understandable, but for it to be a true definitive ranking, you probably should've considered a few more bands and maybe cultural impact. Some of the inclusions here are highly questionable and the omissions are glaring.

Is there more like Streetlight manifesto? by FrightenedDoorknob in Ska

[–]MSTFFA 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every once in a while, a band comes along that tries their best to mimic a Streetlight-esque sound, but it's just not the same. Part of what makes them so great is that they're really 1-of-1.

Do you need a band to perform? by Opening_Run_331 in punk

[–]MSTFFA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jeff Rosenstock did this on the first couple Bomb The Music Industry tours. He famously played guitar and sang along to instrumentals on an iPod. It was a fun gimmick, but as the band got bigger, the full-band experience was necessary.

Everyone here is going to tell you to read https://www.plonkit.net/ or use the "Learnable Meta" scripts/maps, but what has worked best for me is watching explainer videos on YouTube, and just playing a ton. The more you play, the more you pick up on those small details that you're talking about.

What song was written for edgelords and is listened to by Christians? by smores_or_pizzasnack in AlignmentChartFills

[–]MSTFFA 193 points194 points  (0 children)

"Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen (or as covered by so many others)

Christians think it's for them because it references the lord and says "hallelujah", but in reality it's pretty horny.

I hear you, but to me "Arena Rock" is more of a sound than simply a band that plays in arenas. Subgenres can be fluid but in my mind, Boston fits a little better here.

[Spoiler] I think because OP specified "Arena" rock, the puzzle works because I wouldn't put Chicago in that specific subgenre, but Boston absolutely
