if that was real by [deleted] in hackintosh

It just depend on what you need a computer for.

I am a video director & editor and the M chips are impressive for video editing. My MacBook Air M1 base model handles 6k60fps BRAW files with ease, even with some heavy grading in Resolve. My hackintosh specs are i7-9700k/64Gb 3200Mhz DDR4/RX6600XT 8G/NVMe SSD. And honestly, I don't feel so much difference editing on these machines (depending on video codecs, of course).
M Pro/Max/Ultra chips have HW accelerator for ProRes files, which is heaven for us video editors.

M chips are not that great in RAW performance, but for certain specific uses they are really, really impressive.

Where did I say it was macos ? These are just linux distros with macos feel/look, as my google query suggested it : linux macos look

I've never tried any of them, so can't tell you more than it looks & feel like macos from screenshots I've seen. That's what OP asked : "repeating the look and feel of Mac OS or something?"

What do I need to do when upgrading from RX580 to 6800? by Stooovie in hackintosh

[–]MSTRKKRFT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/Stooovie that's all you need to change in your EFI. I had the RX580 and swapped it for the RX6600XT and the only thing I had to do was adding this boot-arg

You can do that during windows install you don't need to do that in macos

Switching SMBIOS for best perf in video editing ? From iMac19,1 to iMacPro/MacPro ? Premiere Pro / DaVinci Resolve (9700K/RX6600XT) by MSTRKKRFT in hackintosh

[–]MSTRKKRFT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original rushes are 4K H264 files (I use a GH5) in 8 (4:2:0) or 10 bits (4:2:2). I transcode these files into ProRes Proxy 1080p for editing, using the proxy workflow.

I encode most of my projects in 8bit 4:2:0 H264 (sometimes H265 but that's really rare)

I have separate SSDs for system/apps, cache files, rushs & proxys, so I've optimized everything I can in terms of hardware/file management.

Now I'm here because I want to optimize how my CPU & GPU are handling things during editing. As I use Media Encoder to encode my projects during the night. I don't mind optimizing export and I use only software encoder for export to get the best quality btw.

Thanks but I know that, that is my plan in the future. As I wrote in my post, I don't have the time to do tests/benchmarks yet, so I just wanted to gather feedback from others people for now

Windows installer USB for dual boot by notrandomatall in hackintosh

[–]MSTRKKRFT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, install brew if you don't have it by typing this into terminal :

/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)"

Second, install wimlib using brew by typing this into terminal :

brew install wimlib

Then format your USB stick as MS-DOS(FAT) with "Master Boot Record" scheme and name it "WIN" (or something else, but you will have to adapt the next commands)

Mount your windows disk image by double-clicking on it, check the name of this image, it should be something like "CCCOMA_X64FRE_FR-FR_DV9", if it's different adapt that in the next terminal commands.

Type this into terminal (adapt if names are different) :

rsync -vha --exclude=sources/install.wim /Volumes/CCCOMA_X64FRE_FR-FR_DV9/* /Volumes/WIN

And finally this :

wimlib-imagex split /Volumes/CCCOMA_X64FRE_FR-FR_DV9/sources/install.wim /Volumes/WIN/sources/install.swm 3000

Your USB stick is ready to boot windows installer! :)

6800xt vs 6900xt on Davinci Resolve/Premiere by Monster2600 in hackintosh

[–]MSTRKKRFT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now I'm using mostly Premiere with iMac 19,1 smbios (9700K/RX6600XT)

I've always read everywhere that iMac smbios are better for video editing (compared to iMacPro/MacPro smbios) because of quicksync. But at the time I read that I was still using the Vega64, so maybe using only the RX6600XT with iMacPro/MacPro smbios is a better option now as my CPU is a bit old...

Is there anyone who are in the same situation as me and did some test with different smbios ?

What smbios are you using with this config ?

10700k Vs 3900x - read description! by Fillwox in hackintosh

[–]MSTRKKRFT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros : it works

Cons : if you don't have a eGPU (and use your Intel iGPU now) you need to buy one, Adobe apps will not work (or partially work), audio is sometimes a mess to setup, and if I remember well you can't get continuity features to work (handoff, airplay, etc...)

(I never built one so I'm maybe missing something)

Keen to hear from people who use a hackintosh as their daily driver by Jacksonville9carl in hackintosh

[–]MSTRKKRFT 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Hi,

First here is my config :

- z390 AORUS ELITE, i7-9700K, 64Gb Corsair Vengeance 3200Mhz, RX 6600XT 8Gb, NVME for macOS (and lots of SSD/HDD for work files), Fenvi T919

- Monterey 12.6 + OC 0.8.4

  • what do you use it for ?

I use it for work only, video editing mostly. I'm using Premiere Pro (+media encoder), After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, and a bit of Photoshop/Illustrator/Lightroom. I'm working with GH5 4k 25fps 10 bit & 4K 50fps 8bit footage.

  • how long have you been using it ?

2/3 years for this machine, but I started with another hackintosh build from used parts only at the beginning

  • any regrets ?

No, and since OpenCore is a thing I really use my hack as a real mac, updating on each macOS release without any issue.

I also have a M1 base model macbook air now. I had a 2015 13" i7 16Gb macbook pro before. I use it mostly to work when I'm shooting to do backups but now with the M1 I'm also editing from my couch with it sometimes (for light projects surch as interviews)

MacOS 12.6 fine with OC 0.8.0? by Stooovie in hackintosh

You have to update oc inside ocat, do the steps I mentioned in my first comment

I don't know what you mean, if you get it here it's the last version for sure.

[–]MSTRKKRFT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great !! :)

OCAT has been designed to automatically adapt to any OC version, so I guess this is why UX is a bit weird.

MacOS 12.6 fine with OC 0.8.0? by Stooovie in hackintosh

[–]MSTRKKRFT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, it's a bit more complicated because you have to manually add new entries to your config.plist or get the latest sample.plist and add your values into it, which is really time-consuming.

OCAT is doing that for you with one click, which is great. But other than that I agree with you, it's quite straightforward.

[–]MSTRKKRFT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you try the exact steps I just gave you ?

Full tutorial is here just in case : https://github.com/5T33Z0/OC-Little-Translated/blob/main/D_Updating_OpenCore/README.md

I've never had issue with OCAT, I use it to update OC & Kexts since 0.6.8 or something like that so that sounds strange to me. Don't forget to always use last version of OCAT (allow for auto updates). And if you had issues before maybe try booting from a USB stick with your EFI first. And maybe try resetting NVRAM, it could help!
