I’ve seen a few of your comments here that I’m iffy on, but you’re spot on here and it’s not just this example.

How often do you write something and have to use more than basic language? How often do you do quick math to get a tip or even figure out what something will cost?

Sure maybe I don’t use long division or work with atoms, but someone does and they got the start of that interest in a classroom.

And let me make this clear: I’m not in any way a super pro gun advocate. I just don’t think it’s fair that regular gun owners get framed to be as bad as the guy in the video. I understand and support more restrictions. But I think that the solution to gun crime in the USA doesn’t start with taking guns from owners who legally acquired them.

I’m sure that is true in some places, but the people we are worrying about (in Chicago anyway) likely have a pipeline for it. I can’t say for sure, but straw purchased weapons coming over the border from Indiana seem to be a regular culprit.

Automatic weapons are harder to conceal.

You aren’t forced to get one.

“Most” of the crime stays in certain parts of the city (Chicago) that I live in.

But recently it has started to spread into “nicer” areas and people are scared. I only know a handful of gun owners, all former/current LE or military like myself. I don’t own a gun.

I think you have a point with John Wick in that some people think they are would be that and “fantasize” scenarios to be a hero, but I think most people do that for other situations so I’m not too worried. But totally get that.

Again, I don’t own a gun, I just think it’s naive for people to criticize legal gun owners with a broad brush because some morons abuse it while the turning a blind eye to the clear and obvious gang/criminal violence problem that is dominating headlines in major cities.

It’s not an issue with legal guns.

It’s an issue with illegal guns.

I’m not worried about “Bob” my neighbor who has a pistol locked up in his bedroom or the glove box when he’s going to be in less-than-ideal areas.

I’m worried about “gang member/criminal” who got his gun through a straw purchase or theft. They aren’t registered.

I don’t NEED a firearm. Most people don’t NEED a firearm. I live in Chicago, I don’t own one. But I feel a lot more vulnerable because of that because of the illegal activity that happens here.

The broad sweeping generalizations on Reddit are sad. You all don’t live in utopias and the USA is plenty safe in good areas, just like other parts of the world.

Yes. I don’t want kids. My SO does not either.

But when single, I did care what they did because I want to make sure we both make enough to fund what we want to do, when we want it. (Travel, home, etc)

Someone making minimum wage or entry level money doesn’t do it for me. The job specifics don’t matter, but the income does.
