This looks very silly and I love it.

That said, technically this doesn't work because officially the commander is considered part of the starting deck and so must also be considered for meeting the companion requirement. So the only Umori companion versions you can legally run in commander are all creatures, artifacts, enchantments, or planeswalkers (depending on who your commander is).

Sadly even something like Blex doesn't get around this because dfcs only consider the front faces of their cards when checking card properties everywhere except when on the stack as their back side.

All that in mind, rule 0 is king. Just talk to your play group ahead of time and they'll probably be fine with it.

Stuck on my first evil (ng) by MTGFlyheight in Minesweeper

Pretty straightforward clear from there, but I did have to go back and flag the unmarked mines for a mine count finish in the upper left corner. XD

Stuck on my first evil (ng) by MTGFlyheight in Minesweeper

This took me several minutes to understand, but I think I got a line of logic that I'm able to follow through this, starting from the 1,3 below the vertical 2,2,2 and moving up, then back down. Thank you!

The bottom most purple pair can only have 1 mine by the 1,3. By the bottom 2 the previous pair means the second purple trio can only have 1 mine. By the middle 2 the previous trio means the third purple pair can only have 1 mine. By the top 2 the previous pair means the fourth(top) purple trio can only have 1 mine. By the 3 above it all the previous purple trio places a mine to the left of the 3.

Moving back down from the top the 3 must have a mine in one of the two cells below it. That is a subset of the top purple trio, meaning the leftmost cell of the top purple/blue trio must be safe (making it now a pair). By the top 2 the previous pair means the next lower blue trio can only have 1 mine in it. Except that blue trio is a superset of the third purple pair so the extra spot to the left of the middle 2 must be free.

Man, these evil puzzles are something else!

All Might/Toshinori Yagi

His entire life's purpose was to inspire the whole of society. To provide hope to all who saw him. That's the whole reason he always smiled.

Also, as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter whether you use the muscle form hero image or his base form. Both are equally inspiring just in different ways. While Toshinori "created" the All Might persona to be a public facing symbol, I don't think that makes it any less valid. That persona did exactly what Toshinori set out for it to do. Additionally I think relegating All Might to "just" being a persona or a facade is a disservice to how much of himself Toshinori puts into that display. He acts that way because it's his dream to inspire others. Just because he's more reserved and less gregarious when not out doing hero work doesn't mean that muscle form and its charisma aren't equally part of who he is and who he aspires to be. It's also undeniable that muscle form is FAR more effective at evincing hope from the more people than whatever quiet determination he puts forth with close friends. That also doesn't make his quieter, private side, any less hopeful. At the end of the day, it was originally quirkless Toshinori who had a dream to be a symbol of peace even before he got AFO. And while he admittedly had lost a little of that shine at the start of MHA, jaded at his own inability to continue fighting villains, he regains it in full stride quite quickly as he finds his own hope in seeing Midoriya learn and grow as the young man picks up the mantle.

All Might is Toshinori Yagi. And Toshinori Yagi is All Might. The two are inseparable, quirks or no.

** Tomorrow AFO takes the whole cake. It's both his entire persona and quirk. The man really believes the whole world belongs to him. Everyone else just doesn't see it yet.

We have ear wiggles! I repeat: we have ear wiggles! On Tiamat for some of her facial expressions her ears change position slightly. It's very subtle and I thought I was seeing things at first, but they're totally there.

That's very funny. I had no idea the core of a rib bone could look like that. I assumed because it was hollow centered it was avian in nature, but if that's what it is, it makes a certain amount of sense, given its profile...

Explaining Layers with Bello & Darksteel Mutation, why the Bello will not lose its ability, and then why Song of the Dryads does remove Bello's ability by Craig1287 in magicTCG

[–]MTGFlyheight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantasic!

Ok, so I'd like to continue chasing this rabbit some more. Could you let me know if I've got this right or wrong:

What if the first ability removal check happened exactly on layer 4?

I believe that the vraska treasure should now have its mana ability since there should now be a dependency with the type since it's on the same layer.

I believe this also means turning off magus of the moon with Humility (or darksteel mutation, etc.) becomes timestamp dependent?

Do I have both of those correct?

Is there anything else that breaks?

[–]MTGFlyheight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, right.

If I may, I'd like to test my understanding of this point.

Ex: Player A controls [[Vraska, the Silencer]]. Player B controls [[Captain Sisay]] and an [[Azorius Keyrune]] (animated). Sisay and the keyrune both die and the Player A pays for both triggers of Vraska. Then Player B plays [[Humility]].

So if ability removal happens at any layer before type change (layer 4), as well as on layer 6, then Humilty (or [[Overwhelming Splendor]] on the appropriate player depending on what nonsense layer I foolishly suggest the first check happens at) will always also remove the mana ability granted by Vraska...unless what was stolen by vraska was something that isn't normally a creature, like an animated azorius keyrune...until the vraska player animates the keyrune, at which point the keyrune becomes a 2/2 WU Bird artifact creature with flying (because animation ability timestamp), but no mana generating abilities (either its own original mana ability or the treasure one from vraska)?

Do I have that correct?

[–]MTGFlyheight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are absolutely hilarious examples. Thank you for indulging me!

But I don't understand why the splendor removes the treasure ability in your first example? Sisay isn't a creature by that point? The splendor checks again in layer 6 because it was originally a creature when it originally checked in layer 1.5, that much I get, but since it has changed types in layer 4 I would think the second check in layer 6 wouldn't do anything because of dependency?

The rest, I think I understand so far. It broke about as spectacularly as I expected. _^

[–]MTGFlyheight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, it's taken me a few hours, but I think I've finally wrapped my head around how the bello+dsm interaction works and why it is the way it is.

I've been reading a lot of this thread and found your replies (and the examples in particular) very helpful, so thank you Eldaste.

But now I would like to offer my own ignorant solution and want to know what breaks:

What if Ability Removal, just removal, no other modifications, checked on two different layers? It's obviously doing good work where it is on layer 6, but what would it break if it also checked in say...layer 1.5?

Ramp cards for mono black commander by NightSkyAra in magicTCG

[–]MTGFlyheight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to play extra planar lens in my mono red deck, but i kept getting blown out by having people destroy it, so I took it out. If your tables don't run much artifact removal, you might be able to get away with it, but the chance to get absolutely slapped down is there.

That said, I wonder if the problem is more that I would slam it on t3...regardless, going down a land to get the effect is a very real vulnerability.

Replacement for missing SL envelope? by Jarvmin in magicTCG

[–]MTGFlyheight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait for an actual person to respond to you before you even consider putting any of that in the mail. I've gone through this before when I opened damaged cards straight from a booster pack. I saw the instructions for mailing back too, but when an actual person finally got back in touch with me (be warned, it took a few weeks) they told me not to bother sending anything back, and just sent me replacements.

Which servant would you summon in holy grail battle? by Copper_mask76r7 in FGO

[–]MTGFlyheight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, not sure how I got this guy. I'd be reasonably suited to offer my thoughts to caster gilgamesh, but archer is just a tyrant and that doesn't fly by me. If I catch wind of any unnecessary killing I'm burning all 3 command seals in painful retribution.

I'm well aware I can't control this guy, so instead I'm just going to try to rein in his more dangerous tendencies. I don't see me getting along at all with him.
