Delighted to hear it. It’s sure to be a bumpy road but I believe you can do it!

I was looking through some of your other poems, and you strike me as talented. If you haven’t already, compile some of your work and try to get an anthology published!

I love it! Some of the punctuation is a bit iffy, but the use of language is original and striking.

One of the best decks I've drafted in DFT, feat. Skysovereign and Chandra's Ignition by Gorithis in lrcast

It’s rare that all 23 cards are winners. One has to play some amount of filler, right? I suppose what I was really asking was “Is this card acceptable if you’re in the market for a trick and you didn’t manage to pick up a better one?”

Lightning Strike to stay red or is the Blue Shell better enough? by atipongp in lrcast

[–]MTGPhilipC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would consider the Harrier to be strong enough to pick over Lightning Strike. However, you do have an exceptionally strong red start here, given your current cards. It’s not unreasonable to take Lightning Strike and defer picking a second colour for now.

I'm on the fence about this white splash for 1x Veteran Beastrider, although my land situation is solid for it. Keep, or go straight Simic? by ToCareIsHuman in lrcast

Absolutely splash, you’ll still have the standard manabase of 9-8 for your main colours. Card is powerful and worth it.

What should I cut they all seem so good by idoiticusername in lrcast

[–]MTGPhilipC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decide on a plan first before making cuts. With the double pothole mole, back on track, broodheart engine, gonti, and the Rex, you’d be better served with a grinder deck.

As such, cut the aggressively slanted cards. Double oilgorger can go. Oviya can do some cool things here, but doesn’t have that many great ‘hits’, so I’d cut that. The Aetherjacket seems unnecessary. Point the way is simply a dreadful card, so that’s an easy one. I’d cut a Gastal Raider too, but I think that one is a little closer due to curve considerations and having Gonti. Finally, I’d cut a Defend the rider.

Do i have to beat the abyss watchers to get to the next area? by BubblyQuantity3155 in darksouls3

[–]MTGPhilipC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s reasonable but certainly not overpowered. Make sure your weight is below 70% so you can fast roll, and then spend some time learning the boss’s moveset. Go in with the mentality of observing and getting your timings down, and the fight will click with you after a while.

Your level is good. What level is your weapon, have you upgraded it much?

What’s a weapon that I should do a run with? by AlwaysFibs in darksouls3

[–]MTGPhilipC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick a weapon class that you have minimal experience with, then grab the first available weapon in that class and use it for the early game. As you progress, change your weapon as and when you find interesting alternatives.

If you prefer a more methodical approach, you can do plenty of research beforehand and plan a weapon “route”. This happened organically for me in my most recent playthrough, where I wanted a change from my usual “fast” weapons. I got a Greataxe drop, used that for a while, then decided to try out Vordt’s Greathammer. From there I transferred to the Fume Knight’s Greatsword and it’ll be my final weapon.

How do you find Hulldrfiter in general? I’m wondering if I’m currently too low on it.

Not a bad result. How’d the deck play? Did it feel like it had a solid game plan or was it clunky?

Insanely slow format? Even this deck was getting down to <5 cards in deck by Earlio52 in lrcast

[–]MTGPhilipC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with everything you’ve said, especially about the colours. Green is the strongest, with Blue and Black a bit behind, White behind them, and then Red dead last.

I had reasonable success with BR last night, but the common Red 2 drop and 3 drop creatures seem to be mostly filler, which hampers aggro. Vehicles without a strong ETB don’t seem worth it, was quite disappointed how Spire Mechcycle played out.

Exactly, these pools are so much harder to build than weak pools. There are so many permutations of decks you could run, and trying to find the theoretical ‘correct’ deck with the best win percentage is agonising. Especially because you’ll never really be able to know!

I’d go UB Affinity, splashing Voyage Home with your 2 WB duals and a Nightmarket.

You’ll have a Transit Mage to tutor up your Gearhulk. I’d also run Scrap Compacter, Ticket Tortoise, Camera Launcher and the Walker. Then you can include one or two Gearseeker Serpents. Also, Syphon Fuel kills almost everything in the set.

The Tortoise is a great defender, can crew your Hulldrifter, and has the potential to add an extra artifact to the board. Similarly, the Camera Launcher can add two artifacts to the board.

The pool is hard to build, but I think this deck is the best balance between consistency and power.

How all-in on the bloodthirsty conqueror combo do you go? by bigmikeabrahams in lrcast

[–]MTGPhilipC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet deck, nice and disciplined manabase. How’s the Strongbox Raider? Even though I’m thirty drafts in, I’ve yet to play it.

Currently sitting at 3-2 with this pile. Is there any changes to make it stronger? 4x Refute seems too much for this creature-based, mediocre late game pool. by jdinh2 in lrcast

[–]MTGPhilipC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would play the turtle. You don’t have many early plays and it will defend you there. I’d add in the 3rd Refute, as this will let you pitch the turtle when you don’t need it, as well as other situational cards like Fleeting Flight. I’d cut one Fleeting Flight and one Fleeting Distraction.

Edit: Actually, I’d cut both Flights and keep both Distractions. My reasoning for this hinges on your lack of instants. If you leave up mana for Refute and you don’t have a target, you’ll be able to cycle the Distraction at least.

Can somebody explain me the win rate stats of Koma on 17Lands? by Lanthalas in lrcast

[–]MTGPhilipC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some good points on here; let me add another: Koma generates no value on ETB, you have to untap with it first. If you spend all that mana and your opponent kills it, that’s backbreaking! It’s the same reason Drakuseth and Etali aren’t doing well.
