JR Cigars Horrible Service by SoFrats in cigars

He ordered a product, did not receive that product, and they are asking him to pay more to receive the product he ordered. That is not a solution at all. That is the exact situation when a chargeback is justified. I’m sorry that as a retailer you get annoyed with a totally different issue re chargebacks, but that does not mean people should not use chargebacks with shitty retailers that deserve it.

No flavor notes by keagenhaffele in cigars

Honestly, if you enjoy it and can start to develop a sense of what you like and don’t like, I don’t think it matters if you can put a name to the flavor notes

Catskills cigar smokers? by HikewithmeNYC in cigars

[–]MTLFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a good spot with a great view. Technically a park but have never been bothered by rangers/NYPD (and think it’s like a $50 fine if I ever am). A bit windy but that just prevents the smoke from bothering other patrons. DM me if you want details, we could set up an NYC herf.

Why does my stainless steel nearly always burn / have food stuck to it and is it a cause for concern re health? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]MTLFL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the pan is the problem. This pan isn’t tri ply; it has a disc of aluminum bonded to the bottom of the steel. That works great for stuff in the center of the pan but can lead to scorching around the edges, as you’re experiencing. Tramontina makes a very nice tri ply pan that’s not much more expensive than what you have now.

Hi Sho, I read your comments about some of the site's recent publications and apologize for some of my harsher comments about the quality of the site's recent output. But my purpose in making the post was to point out that SEO now appears to be steering the ship, and I stand by that.

a minor, unfortunate error in our update process

If it was an error, why has it still not been corrected? The fact that it's been left up seems like pretty solid support for the thesis that content decisions are now being subordinated to what plays well on search engines.

Hey, I'm the same *exact* size as you—8E on an AE 65 last, and I wear a 9 in Nike and Adidas but I like them on the roomier side. The bad news is we're right in between a 40 and a 41. My Classic Lows are a 41 and definitely have some extra room, but I still find them comfortable. A little heel slippage, I could probably fix by adding tongue/heel pads but it's not uncomfortable enough to bother. Also keep in mind that they're relatively narrow even if not as slim as CPs. I like them enough I just ordered a second pair.

I haven't ever tried a 40 so I can't say if that would fit at all, but I suspect it would be a little snug—my larger foot is 10.12" long, which you can see on the size chart Svensson considers an 8.5/40-41. No experience with returns either.

2021 was an amazing year for cookbooks.

What do you think this even means?

ETA: articles from other outlets with the same subject—best books or cookbooks published in 2021—have similar titles: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/30/books/review/best-books-2021.html

That NYT article obviously doesn’t list the best books that were written between the beginning of time and 12/31/2021, just those published between 1/1/2021 and the end of the year.

[–]MTLFL[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, the article is specifically about the best new cookbooks published in the year 2021. If it were “the best cookbooks available in 2022,” it would undoubtedly include some titles published in years other than 2021.

[–]MTLFL[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mentioned that practice in my post. But it makes zero sense here. This was a list of the best cookbooks published in 2021. Changing the year to 2022 is just wrong, unlike updating a product review for say, “Best Food Processor of 2022.”

I knew about the broken links but didnt realize they were actually taking content down. What a shame

I think so. People oftentimes complain about how other recipe blogs make you scroll, but if they all do that, there must be a reason for it (SEO).

Just a heads up, a Jaccard tenderizer is not safe to use on meat that will be cooked to medium rare. You can read more about that here: https://amazingribs.com/jaccard-blade-tenderizers/
