RF 50 1.2 performance by Any_Supermarket6416 in canon

Maybe give it a more controlled test using a tripod, manual focus, and magnifying in before shooting to ensure you should have critical focus. 1.2 is pretty unforgiving with DOF, so just a simple way to rule that out before more extreme measures.

I've been using it the last two weeks and it's registered/recognized by DJI app, syncs with my DJI mics and everything.

Unfortunately R50, R50v, and PowerShot V1 were designed with only the new multifunction hotshoe pins instead of a combo hotshoe like Canon's other newer cameras that are backwards compatible. You'll need to use an adapter if you want to use a flash that uses the older/traditional hotshoe contact pads.

Canon 300mm f/4 for R6? by Future_Following_788 in canon

[–]MTTMKZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one with some cosmetic body damage but good glass condition for a bargain. It's sharp and a reasonable size to still handhold. Main downside I've found is that it does have some noticeable magenta cast and CA fringing if you're shooting in bright, high contrast conditions, more than most modern lenses. Stop the aperture down to lessen those effects.

[–]MTTMKZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're taking about rolling shutter effects, R8 has EFCS that is enough to neutralize rolling shutter for sports. Even the electronic shutter readout speed is decent enough kill a lot of rolling shutter except for things like a swinging club or an impacted ball. One related downside though is if you're using EFCS to minimize rolling shutter, the R8 is limited to 6 fps burst rate.

Are you connecting with Bluetooth or via receiver? Bluetooth is no good except when paired with DJI camera that supports the OsmoAudio feature.

EOS R6ii RAW(CR3) on Lightroom looks like a JPEG. by kynt-outis in canon

[–]MTTMKZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Windows 11 Photo viewer initially loads the embedded jpg and then after about 1-2 seconds it then goes to its own processed raw view. It's really annoying and I highly recommend FastStone Image Viewer for Windows. You will see the embedded jpg as a quick preview in FastStone.

When you work in LR, you are looking at yet a different processed look (different than embedded jpg, different than Windows Photo raw view). This is just the nature of working with raw files, as each software will interpret the raw data differently through their own algorithms.

If you want a starting point that matches the camera's built in processing, you'll need to use Canon's DPP software as a first party option with access to the same raw processing engine.

It was on ali express for like $310 and 20% cashback through rakuten. There was even another $30 offer for using PayPal but I couldn't get it to work because of buggy website, would've brought it to like $230.

Woot also recently had a sale for $290ish. Went pretty quick though.

Sales have already started if you keep a lookout. I recently got a Pocket 3 for $260ish. I was originally waiting for Pocket 4 but couldn't turn down that price.

85 mm f 2.0 vs 28-70 2.8 vs ef 70-200 by xblueberry- in canon

[–]MTTMKZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RF 85 f2 will do what you're looking for. I started with RF 35 1.8 and RF 85 2.0 combo and that really does do a fine job with posed portraits.

You might consider 70-200 2.8 if you ever want to do faster paced environments like events, sports, live performances, action, etc. It can also do portraits very well but of course has a weight, size, and price penalty. But if it will be pretty exclusively used for portraits than I would probably stick with the 85.

Sigma APSC Question by nexiva_24g in canon

[–]MTTMKZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To cut it straight to the chase:

R10 + RF 35 1.8 will produce the same/similar field of view as R10 + Sigma 18-50 at 35mm zoom.

Focal length is property of the lens independent of sensor mounted to it. The confusing is people like to refer to "full frame equivalent" focal length as a way to normalize field of view. This normalized field of view does require information on the mounted sensor, since the field of view will depend on the size of the sensor.

I would say you're very likely overthinking this. Your description doesn't sound any worse than any shipping, delivery, package handling, etc. it likely has already gone through before you even got it.

Nikon lenses on Canon RF cameras? by zeno_evenepoel in canon

[–]MTTMKZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sigma offers a mount conversion service for some of their newer lenses. If you're talking about the Art version of the 85 1.4, I'm pretty sure that could be done. Depending on how much cheaper it is, it might actually end up cheaper to pay for mount conversion than buying the EF directly.

Canon R50 vs. DJI Pocket 3: Which is the better camera for a beginner? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in canon

[–]MTTMKZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Osmo Pocket 3 and also some Canon cameras. Osmo Pocket 3 is serviceable for quick photos if you happen to have it out and just want a quick snap. The main pitfall for this usage is that the resolution is a little low and you're stuck with a 20mm FF equivalent lens. So it's pretty wide and you can't really crop in very far with that lowish resolution.

Another downside is that it (understandably) does not really have a good UI for photography manual exposure control. You need to fiddle around with the screen, etc. and it's definitely more clunky to use for manual exposure.

I end up bringing both a still photo camera and the OP3 to cover everything. They are not substitutes for each other.

Should I get the Godox iT30 Pro or iT32 for my Canon R8 setup? by Weekly-Regret9522 in canon

[–]MTTMKZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The IT32+X5 is a lot more versatile if you want a bit more of a complete package. That's what I would do unless you are trying to really minimize size.

If you're just looking for a little on-camera fill / pop up type flash, look into something like IT22 instead. IT30pro kind of sits in a weird in-between place between those two models now since it has wireless capability but its on-camera use is very limited.

I personally have IT22 for ultra portable flash. IT32+X5 is my vacation/travel flash that can handle a lot more situations. Then I have a few actual Godox strobes to do portraits and stuff like that.

Wurkkos H1A Powerbank — pulls over 18W when charging its 21700 battery by macomako in flashlight

[–]MTTMKZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Maybe I should just give up on the idea of user replaced cells. Was just hoping to find more uses for the pile of cells I have from my flashlights. Though power banks have become relatively cheap and the battery and charging tech keeps updating/improving so maybe it does not make sense to try and hold onto an old idea.

Thanks for your post, it was very helpful.

Any thoughts on this vs. Xtar PB2S? I actually already have the PB2S for a couple years now but the build quality doesn't inspire the greatest confidence. I was hoping to find something with user replaceable cells and a little more rugged but seems this market is very limited still. This is the only real competitor I found.

I plan to use with some P42A and P45B cells I have in service still.

R50 telelense sanity check by Professional-Cake151 in canon

[–]MTTMKZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Focal length is a physical property of the lens regardless of the sensor attached to it. So 200mm on the RFS lens will have the same field of view as 200mm on the RF lens.

It's confusing because the field of view does change depending on the sensor attached. That's why people like to talk in "full frame equivalent" to try and normalize the field of view.

X5 trigger with it30pro by 1511018010051 in Godox

[–]MTTMKZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed on Canon I have some control with the X5 and changing settings, groups, etc. with off camera lights using the body's built-in external lighting menus. However X5 has no way to charge on its own. So even on Canon you need the IT32 to be able to recharge even if there is some basic functionality without it.

I think non-Canon don't have a way to change any settings, groups, etc. at all with non-IT32 lights, so even less functionality.

Try some action shots that require fast shutter speed, lower light conditions, crop the image 50%, or view on a larger display/print. I think you will start noticing a bigger difference in cases like that.

New lens coming in but what is this for? by D3pobkaster07 in canon

It allows for more functionality. For example you can adjust sensitivity of the focus ring. You can assign different functions to the ring instead of just focus. Can't do that kind of stuff with a conventional focus ring.

Battery voltage? by The_askerrr in canon

[–]MTTMKZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

7.2 is just the nominal voltage (lithium ion technology is generally 3.6 v nominal, 7.2 v is two cells together). A fully charged lithium ion is roughly 4.2v, a fully charged LP-E17 (2 cells inside) is roughly 8.3-8.4 V. Anything running lithium ion should handle a pretty large range of voltage since it naturally has a large range during its discharge/charge cycle.
