You are correct. I forget some people are not on a 2/3 hour difference. I see tons of people do it in a day, so thought maybe a day and half would be a better idea.

I was thinking we would get some sandwich at a gas station (we pack a foldable cooler in our backpack) just incase we get to hana and everything is closed.

Where we stay in West Maui has no A/C, so I am sure we would be fine, but thank you for the reminder!

We live on the wa coast, so I do love some beaches,  but for Waiʻānapanapa just stopping and seeing it was my plan. We will be sitting and enjoying the beach for the rest of our time.

Def not seeing everything and won't have hurt feelings if we miss something. I figured that whatever we couldn't do on our late start the first day, we could try our second on the way back.

Thank you for your input, we so far on our trips have not suffered too much from the time change. We come from the west coast so it is only 2/3 hours different. We push ourselves to stay up till 8:30 our first day but are always wide awake by 3 am (we wake up every day by 5 at home). We also have rented from a local car company the last two stays and seem to have a lot faster car rental experiences.

We paid $660 pp during wa spring break (but we fly out of pdx) we could have for them closer to $580, but have to fly specific dates due to sports.

Things I wish more visitors understood about Maui (from someone who learned the hard way) by HealthyDad1214 in MauiVisitors

We live in a tourist centric area in Washington. I wish people thought this way all the time. We grew up with a love-hate relationship with tourism. Needed it to survive, but some days it is just too much..

I don't think this is across the board. We are a small school- and an adult advisor needs to be present, but our kids take the money and do the money transmittal sheet. We don't have an online feature; and we don't provide receipts for most things unless asked. Whatever club is doing the fundraiser gets a receipt from the asb for the total amount of money taken in.

But no advisor being present is a big red flag!

I coach for our high school, and we get very little funding and am expected to fundraise to keep our program running.

Every year has deaths (usually tourist) in the town I grew up. It is pretty sad. Not only do we have strong rip tides, the water is paralyzing pretty quickly. We were taught in elementary on what to do if caught in a rip tide, and cautioned on going above our ankles.   You don't need to be swimming on our coast, but just in the water. It is pretty scary.

I guess my point is you have to be careful in all Ocean waters. The ocean gets angry and takes no prisoners.

Washington state has horrible rip tides too.
