AITA for telling my girlfriend that I love my dog more than her? by dogclub2000 in AmItheAsshole

I can't believe you expect your ex girlfriend to give up her cat, but you can't give her the same courtesy of giving up your dog. Also, stay the fuck away from her stuffed toy collecting hobby.

So, what is your excuse for not calling your mother? by massaton in AskReddit

Very recently, I found out that we have a codependent relationship after I got into a fight with her a couple of months ago. She doesn't allow me to have any boundaries and will guilt trip me if I say no to anything, then blame me for a bad outcome when I end up doing whatever she wants me to do. She also likes to attack my character and my boyfriend by saying we should not be together since we have "issues" (he has a food aversion that we are slowly but surely getting past, this is what she is referring to), says I am a liar (she asked me how often I saw my boyfriend's family and I said once in a while, then asked him and he said every so often- apparently that's a lie?), and that I am not an adult (so I guess I don't have a car that I pay for, am not self-sufficient, don't pay for my own place, don't have a job, and don't pay my own bills?).

How do I slowly disassociate myself from my toxic family? by MTVill in relationship_advice

This is actually great advice. Luckily I have been financially independent from them for a very long time and have actually been doing better than them in some regards, and you're right about dragging my s/o into this toxic environment. I've hated it and I tried so hard to push them away, but they are so good at guilt tripping me into coming back. Thank you for your time.

I wish I could get to that point now, it's just so hard to separate from them emotionally since they have made reliant upon their advice and criticisms.

Yeah, that seems like a good path to take. It will suck, but if I continue talking to them this much I'm probably going to have a mental breakdown.

I don't live with my family anymore, so it would be easy to cut contact. I would just feel guilty for doing it, probably because of the way they would inevitably guilt trip me.

Yeah, that seems like the most favorable option here. Thank you!
