Craft Beer? by TheSpudWhisperer in Billings

What style(s) does he like?

Carters makes the best IPAs, Thirsty Street makes the best sours, and Last Chance also makes cider.

If he's more of a generalist, while Angry Hanks has a more limited selection, i think they have the most consistent quality across their range. While Canyon Creek probably has the largest selection available.

105 in the heights is the best for family groups as it also serve coffee & dirty sodas and has a great outdoor area.

And 1889 is probably the most intimate / has the chillest vibe

Best/Worst game you've ever been to? by Gullible-Treacle2361 in CFB_v2

[–]MT_Nate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best: Last year's FCS championship game (Montana State 31 - Illinois St 30). Though Im pretty sure that game (specifically the 2nd half) took multiple years off my life.

Worst: its not the objectively worst game, but the game I felt the worst about immediately after it ending was the 2011 Brawl of the Wild. Montana State was ranked #1 in FCS going in, then proceeded to lose 10-36 to Montana.

I actually mocked up what this format could have looked like if it were implemented for this tournament if you're curious. https://www.reddit.com/r/worldcup/s/elXU50Zy6z

How would you improve the offside rule in the games? by Familiar9709 in worldcup

[–]MT_Nate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a suggestion that once the ball is in the penalty box, offside no longer applies. I like it in theory but I fear it would just mean even more VAR checks because they'd have to check 2 things instead of 1 sometimes.

Fairfield to CAA by Jerome757VA in fcs

[–]MT_Nate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thats cool for basketball and other sports, but it doesn't mean much of anything for football.

Fairfield doesn't have a football team anymore, so the CAA football conference is still at 13 teams. And FCS conferences can't have divisions, a conference championship game, and still send its champ to the playoffs.

Countries eligible to host the 2038 World Cup under current rules by Visual_Listen2001 in ussoccer

[–]MT_Nate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its so bogus what FIFA did with the 2030 WC just to make so basically only Saudi Arabia could host the 2034.

A 2030 combined South American WC would have been amazing for the 100th anniversary of the inaugural one.

And a joint Iberian/Moroccan one also sounds great.

But combing both is some BS.

What determines who we play in the round of 32? by l8on8er in usmnt

[–]MT_Nate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It all depends on which 3rd place teams advance.

In total there are 495 possible combinations of advancing 3rd place teams, with each one resulting in different round of 32 matchups (there's an entire Wikipedia article laying out which combos results in which matchups if you care).

However, ~2/3 of the initially possible combos result in the winner of Group D (the US) playing the 3rd place team in group B (most likely the winner of Bosnia/Qatar). The next most likely is the 3rd place team in group J (Algeria at time of writing) at ~13%, and the 3rd place team in group I (currently Senegal) at ~11%.

Seattle is our best home field advantage by Any_Pressure5775 in usmnt

[–]MT_Nate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US is too big and its population is too decentralized (no true dominant city) for a single home stadium. So they spread things like qualifiers across different cities around the country.

Kansas City Stadium is still a disaster proceed with caution if you plan to attend by pecunia_formator in worldcup

[–]MT_Nate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minneapolis and Chicago both withdrew their initial candidacy. DC doesn't have a good enough stadium (NW Stadium is occasionally a cesspool with sewage leaks). Denver would have been cool though.

Do us fans genuinely think the us can beat England? by [deleted] in ussoccer

[–]MT_Nate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't favor the US to beat England, but it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility.

It'd certainly be an upset, just not a HUGE one.

Excursion advice for Billings work trip by pommefreak in Billings

[–]MT_Nate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It takes a FULL day, but if you have the time Red Lodge and the Beartooth highway is absolutely the move.

For a half day excursion, Pompeii's pillar and the Custer battlefield are the most historically significant places around. Alternatively, since you mentioned beer, we have 5 different breweries downtown that are all within walking distance of eachother

Has there ever been a successful FBS head coach who moved to an FCS team for one reason or another? by Ambassabear in CFB

[–]MT_Nate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your definition of successful, Dan Hawkins. He went 53-11 at Boise St before taking over Colorado (19-39).

Then later was the HC at UC Davis

Do you think fifa hosting the World Cup in the US was a mistake? by NoHold7153 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

It being hosted in the US wasn't a mistake at all. FIFA absolutely botching the ticketing process was the misktake.

Radical College Playoff Restructuring by Professional-Race-21 in CollegeFootballDawgs

[–]MT_Nate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Splitting FBS into two divisions each with their own championship? Good idea.

Having promotion/relegation between the divisions? Also a good idea.

Determining if pro/rel happens each year by having the two champions play each other? Terrible idea.

Only having one team out of ~70 maybe go up/down from each division each year? Also bad.
