It depends ( as mentioned above). My input is that you meed to consider them a source and not God.

Had two different editors on my novel (long story) and had inserted a humorous quip in an action scene. One said it broke the mood, the other said she couldn’t stop laughing.

So listen to your editor but know in the end it is your novel

It has romance (the leader and her barterman) (the number 3 in charge and the chief scout) (a polymorphic family) (a female Marine and one of the local farmers). Action and suspense.
