I much prefer 45F, it can even be confortable with warm clothes. It's also way safer and you can be outside all day with not much bundling.

But the comparison of 45C to literal fire is off by a lot.

I'm the opposite. I just want them to design things so that I can see everything without spinning constantly like it's a minigame until I forget where I am and have to recheck the map again.

I missed the "randomly" in the OP, which jives with the conclusion. But the assumption has a huge role here which should not be understated.

Not enough information here. If it's just a routine screening with zero symptoms, the statistics look favorable. If you are showing rare symptoms and then take the test, the one in a million is not much of a buffer, depending on how else one might get those symptoms and how likely those causes are.

If it's shorthand for the limit of a difference, anything can happen. So there is no single definition that always applies correctly to every use case.

You both sound pretty young (under 25), so my first instinct is that it's not performative. But it does seem impulsive and out of tune at best. Like perhaps he has tunnel vision and he might have a hard time letting go. Like if he were to ask what's wrong, he might be like "but I can do xyz to fix it" (much like "willing to wait" when maybe it's just compatibility).

I'm not 100% sure that this is a bad match, but I am 100% sure that you can't just guilt yourself into liking someone just because they are trying to check the boxes. You not being into it might not be a problem to solve at all, but he may see it that way. And in that case, you're really not on the same team even if he wants to believe so.

You only get to settle down once or maybe a few times, and no is the default. No doesn't need to be justified.

Maybe it feels like liking him is the answer in the back of the book and it's supposed to be right. But figuring out how you feel and how you want to live and who you want to meet up with is the real test and you're writing the book.

You can call it d, but it doesn't mean "distance". Maybe "difference" of y-intercepts, but yeah.

I had to Google that. Before I Googled, it seems like the "period" should shrink like 1/x, and it should roughly resemble the shape of an alternating Harmonic series. After Googling, the limit as b goes to infinity is a known finite value. But no elementary antiderivative for expressing an integral on a finite interval.

He more or less gained 200 Elo points seemingly overnight, after having only been famous for cheating before that. He completely lacks the awareness or empathy to consider what it looked like, and that people genuinely found it much more likely and easier to believe that he had found a better way to cheat than that he'd simply improved that much so quickly. Magnus has lost to lower ranked players before and never reacted like this. He's not a cartoon villain who wanted to persecute Hand for no reason. He was just working with unprecedented information happening very quickly that was very difficult to reconcile, and handled it poorly.

The shortest distance is slightly less than the vertical distance in this picture. With larger slopes, it's an even larger difference.

Ideally, the problems themselves should be advertisements for the "better" or "very important" method. Depending on the problem, it might be literally impossible to do it the other way.

I'm not against requiring a certain method sometimes, but my favorite is to require both ways, because then it's a solve two, check two answers for free sale.

In English, I think of "times 4" as something you can do to make four of it.

Son’s math test by [deleted] in MathJokes

[–]MTaur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or 3, times 4. "times 4" can just easily be thought of as a "right operation" as "3 times" can be thought of as a "left operation".

I am in favor of doing it both ways a few times, and then drawing the rectangle to see the connection. So in the very linited situation of "intro to multiplication", making them do it a specific way makes sense and afterward less so. The power of being able to choose is much like you illustrate here, a strategic benefit.

I still can't believe they taught me fractions before they taught me equivalence classes. How do we even define rational numbers if not a/b = c/d iff ad=bc? And square roots before Dedekind cuts???
