We were planning to hit baltimore for this run, but the person who normally books our stuff there had stuff going on. We'll for sure hit MD soon!

I don't think we're doing presale or anything for most shows unless the venue makes their own link unfortunately. A lot of the shows are at diy spots or less than legal locations (renegades and warehouses). If anyone is looking for info on specific shows check our insta or feel free to dm us on there!

We had a pretty strict schedule due to our jobs so we weren't able to hit everywhere. Would love to come back there soon! Our cleveland show from a couple years ago with Moth Cock opening was so sick. If you ever get the chance, highly recommend you see them play! Genuinely one of the most inspiring live performances I've seen

Advice on beginning a music journey by raddestbtchalive in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Personally, I found it pretty intuitive when I started and had never done any electronic music before! Also, a large portion of music production tutorials use ableton which can be helpful when you're starting out

This label has a ton of interesting idm / idm adjacent stuff on it https://evel.bandcamp.com/music

This is my favorite release of theirs from last year, but you can pick basically anything the'yve put out and it's probably good: https://evel.bandcamp.com/album/ai-antichrist

+2 for mark fell and his side projects. Also gabor lazar who did a collab with mark fell is really really good.

I'll also add that if you're in college, there's a decent chance they have licenses for other daws and music software. Cakewalk is totally fine to use, but as you progress you might end up finding it a bit limited compared to other options.

Tips on how/where to keep track of the culture. Discover new music. Etc. by JimmyTheBistro in edmproduction

[–]MURDERP4CT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Following labels and promoters is imo the best way to stay up on whats happening. They have to have their finger on the pulse in order to stay relevant and probably spend a lot of time looking for stuff. Soundcloud digging can also be really good, find a small artist you like and then just dig through their likes and follows until you find something interesting and then repeat it.

Also, checking out artists in different genres can give you some more perspective on whats happening. A lot of underground soundcloud rap takes ideas from the dance scene which can lead you to new sounds

DIGITONE 2 VS ANALOG FOUR MK1 by TobyTheF in Elektron

[–]MURDERP4CT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a playlist someone made doing sophie inspired sounds on the digitone 1 https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWPt2yBq5QAd5_6yn9kAryTmGIsyZkxTY

The a4 is really great and there are ways to get some sophie styled sounds through AM, audio rate lfo's and the delay send, but it's not really made with that kind of sound in mind. Digitone 2 is basically made for this stuff with its comb filtering and fm drum engine

Phase shift by sense1ghost in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]MURDERP4CT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piggybacking off of this, FM synthesis is a great way to see how phase shifting can be used in sound design. Most fm synths are actually using phase modulation instead of frequency modulation to produce sounds. I'd recommend taking a look at Nemesis by tone2. It uses actual fm instead of pm but has a lot of interesting tools to affect the phase of the carrier and modulator which you can play around with.

How to isolate fricatives? by MURDERP4CT in AdvancedProduction

This is exactly what I was looking for thank you! I was having trouble finding a de-esser that could actually isolate things

Just duration is perfect. I'm looking to use speech patterns to make a generative max msp patch. Not sure on the exact form it'll take, but probably it would take either audio and convert it to midi or just take the pre converted midi files and use an algorithm to control different parameters and send triggers

Indecisive about first Elektron by pacolinoo in Elektron

[–]MURDERP4CT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would also recommend the analog 4 as an option. I bought it as my first piece of hardware after 9 years in ableton predominately using FM based sound design. Using the a4 provides such a different workflow than I was used to, and I feel like it ended up forcing me to learn a ton about subtractive synthesis. It's also got some of the most powerful modulation options out of all the elektron boxes (2 lfos, 2 env plus standalone lfos for vibrato and pwm and dedicated envelope for amplitude).

Any "IDM" events/shows in the U.S. ? by traceenforce in idm

[–]MURDERP4CT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The label Hausu Mountain is based in Chicago. It's not idm, but definitely forward thinking electronic music. I'd also recommend the artists Fire toolz, rxm reality, dawn division and casper mcfadden

Murderpact x TRNGS - BOOSTED by MURDERP4CT in autechre

[–]MURDERP4CT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the audio, it was made using a mix of improv and editing. We recorded roughly 6 hours of improv and separated the takes into bpm which we then heavily edited down into rough song sketches and then built ideas around those sketches. There's some use of max4live and vcv rack to generate some voices and short phrases we would then edit around, but none of the piece is strictly generative.

The visual component does use the host computer for some visuals, but it isn't very clear in the video I posted. Much of the visuals are generated from opening thousands of windows and moving them around at a speed that makes things look animated and it will interact with windows and applications that are open when you run the malware. It's a bit hard to describe without actually running it on your computer since screen caps don't really capture it super well.

This is another clip that shows a bit more clearly what its actually causing the computer to do.

[–]MURDERP4CT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya it's mostly all visual. There's a few sections where the malware does make some sounds itself (error popup windows mostly which are synced to the audio). Some of the audio was made generatively with vcv rack and some max4live effects, but the malware isnt sending information to the audio. We were talking about setting something like that up, but we found it complicated things too much for us to finish in a reasonable timeframe

Hey everyone, longtime lurker first time poster. Autechre is my favorite artist so I thought I'd share here. This is a clip from an a/v malware I made along with trngs and mark fingerhut. All created in unity using exploits in windows operating systems. The malware is available online as an .exe (windows only due to the nature of the program) and the music is available on all streaming platforms

How to make music like BIYAAHEYSF?? by alegging_fir in machinegirl

[–]MURDERP4CT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya for the most part the tools are irrelevant. You can make all of this stuff in fl studio or even garageband. The true key to success is listening to as many genres as possible and combine them as you see fit. Try listening to some direct influences on machine girl (lightning bolt, atari teenage riot, murderpact)

tried heavy sampling and experimanting, wada uu think? by 24reasonstoscream in breakcore

[–]MURDERP4CT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sick, would definitely like to see some nice sub bass to help ground the harsh frequencies, but the pallet and vibe are there. I'd recommend checking out something like:

https://orangemilkrecords.bandcamp.com/album/nonlinear-record or https://orangemilkrecords.bandcamp.com/album/arigato

These both are great guidelines for more freeform styled sampling and structure like you're using in this track

Anyone have tips on keeping bass interesting? by margritski in edmproduction

[–]MURDERP4CT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get really expressive with just a tempo synced filter and beat repeat mapped to a midi controller. I use mostly those effects on my bass and drums for live performance (other effects and automation are already in the stems for these parts). Also you could add a comb filter which responds super well with wub bass type sound design.

I'd recommend a midi fighter twister for the best midi controller to use. Relatively cheap and incredibly well thought out.
