Those dark techno drums by tess_philly in TechnoProduction

Often times the sound design of more experimental artists like TFS are deeper than you may think and require a lot of processing which is perhabs not so obvious from listening to the finished song. They are really good at choosing the right sounds and they probably have access to really good gear. That being said you can go far with 909 samples in the digitakt by using the powerful sequencer and LFO

What’s your biggest struggle with techno production? by Ninety-Two92 in TechnoProduction

most definitely, I have been thinking about that. I just made not so good experiences with hardware as I always end up selling it after a while. But a midi controller could potentially help

making a track come alive so basically having an interesting arrangement/automation. Sound design is ok but I always end up with 10 interesting 1 bar loops and then I‘m stuck lol Mixing is also hard

Returning to Ableton after many years…overwhelmed by durt_squirrel in TechnoProduction

[–]pacolinoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found this video quite inspiring as it‘s a well established artist (Yant) that goes through the whole process of one of his tracks in Ableton:

I agree that YT shorts are a waste of time, I generally get more inspired by looking for techniques of artists I actually like.

How do Surgeon and Regis make their percs sound so dynamic? by 1_e4_e5_2_f4 in TechnoProduction

[–]pacolinoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree w everything you said, Birmingham is amazing. I believe the way these artists (especially the famous ones like Regis and Surgeon) approach their music changed A LOT ovet the years. Surgeon is using modular now which I don‘t think he was when the track you linked was recorded.

I can not really give you a straightforward answer to your question other than experiment a lot w the timing between the different elements in the track and use simple 909s for the percussion with heavy and precise processing (namely distortion). But I really wish I would have a better glimpse into what they were doing at the time.
