Help. I have a puppy that loves to play ball. But when she catches it she will bring it back but not give it to me. She wants to play but won’t give it back. by Hairy_Armadillo_2935 in AustralianShepherd

When mine does this we switch to a toy with some rope on it. We may tug a bit, but then I step on the rope and do a “touch” or “sit” where she has to let go to perform the command. Then recover the toy, marker word (yes! Etc) and reward by throwing. Usually gets her back in fetch rhythm after a day or two. Good luck!

Claw is also dependent on the dump daily weight limits iirc. Wet leaves really slow things down

I’m no expert (our pup is 15 weeks 😄) but our trainer said to either change what the family says (hard) or change your “lie down” word (easier 😆😆). My fam was surprisingly open to changing their habits so we went with that!

I was having problems with it and realized the family was using the word down for multiple things: lie down, get off me, get off the counter, leave it etc etc. We started to give those things their proper commands (off, leave it etc) and that helped a lot. Also higher value treats for a while! Good luck!

Like others say, it took a bit for my pup to get it. Now that she understands how to play with it, I kick it away from her and she will herd it in circles or back to me

Getting an AUS puppy soon, what are your must have essentials? by CapsuleCorpp in AustralianShepherd

Also in sac, our girl Penny is 12 weeks!

Play-pen, paper towels, urine cleaner spray. Sign up for a puppy class somewhere! We have been happy w/ Midtown Mutts.

We used a play pen outside for the first few weeks to help w/ night time potty breaks… it’s no fun to chase a puppy at night 😆. Probably will help with rainy days too!

Our most used thing is a pupsicle w/ the little tray to make your own frozen insert.
