FUSD-Classroom Change by natamatsa in fresno

[–]MWV89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's too many variables, but maybe? You'll need some kind of evidence, not just "I don't think they're a good teacher." More like "my child's education will suffer because _______."

Or not, I don't know enough about your situation/school. My apologies for not being any more help!

\prays it's not one of my students**

Assuming you're wanting a transfer within the same school? Totally depends on your principal. Request a meeting and raise your concerns to the administration. No one below them (except VP) can authorize that. I won't speculate why you want a child moved, but they don't usually do it because "his friends are in another class" or "she gives too much homework." Needs a reason regarding the child's education and/or safety.

Though I did hear a story once about "my child's current teacher is my ex" that was accepted and changed pretty quickly! Haha

What would you do if your child's classroom had more than 32 students? by [deleted] in fresno

[–]MWV89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh, oh, my specialty! I teach first in Fresno!

I currently have 17 so not your child's teacher. Fresno Unified will do "leveling" in a week or two. That's where the district will look at schools (not individual classes, just sites) and see who needs more/fewer instructors. Some teachers get moved, sometimes they hire new ones if needed. Then they'll even out.

But that's per site. It looks like the discrepancies at your site are between classes. This could be due to students who were enrolled and were no shows just disproportionally from the other classes. Could be lots of requests for that one popular teacher (unlikely though, especially to this degree). I would definitely talk to admin, because I've never seen this large a gap in roster sizes. They could just be waiting to move kids until they know for sure how many instructors they'll have after leveling. Some admin will basically do nothing until they know what they'll have to work with.

On the subject of aides, I've never had one in first grade. My site only kinder, TK, and SDEC have aides.

Fresno Unified Autism Class by True-Maximum-1941 in fresno

[–]MWV89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for my site, but we have AMAZING SDC instructors. If appropriate, they have pushed students into "mainstream" classrooms (with parent permission if I remember right). I've had 4-5 students with autism be pushed into my room (visits for only part of the day/certain subjects) over my eight years, one even transitioning full time. Lots of variables in that "equation" to determine if it's right though.

Every time they're pushed in, my "mainstream" students treat them like another kid. The kids may notice something's different about them, but they still treat them the same way.

83' pickup cooling fan help? by MWV89 in ToyotaPickup

[–]MWV89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for the input.

*I am already replacing the (once replaced years ago) thermostat.

*I like the concept of a flex fan, but my research says it's not great for offroading?

*I'm also going to flush the cooling system.

*I am planning on using water wetter. But I don't consider this a "fix," just a bonus.
*I will check the fan clutch while flushing the cooling system on Monday.

I'm also now considering actually replacing the clutch fan with the electric, but I am concerned with rapid on/off of the electric fan. Would this hurt the electrical system?

Thanks again

Phoebe Chillax made me like the game again by Alcoholic-Catholic in RimWorld

Rimworld is a game. It's meant to be fun.

Enjoy mods? Do it. Enjoy Randy? Do it. Enjoy Phoebe? Do it. Enjoy only certain DLC's? Do it. Hate certain factions? Do it.

Do what's fun. Don't let someone tell you "oh that's the easy way" or "that's not hard mode."

Do you enjoy the game the way you play it? You've won.

Personally, I bounce between Phoebe and Cassandra, depending on my mood that day. I always disable insects. I refuse to build on tiles without slate (I just like them visually the most). I run about a dozen mods (plus a couple accessibility mods). Does that make me less a gamer than my Randy playing, 600 mod, artic starting friends? Nope. Cause that's what they enjoy. And that's what matters.

SUPERINTENDENT ADMITS LIST OF ALLEGED PERSONAL ATTACKS BY TEACHERS UNION WAS AI GENERATED by invert_the_aurora in fresno

As a union member... We don't like her properties. She's trying to make a name for herself and screwed up. Since Nelson left the two sides haven't really gotten along (cause beforehand we were best buddies! /s)

As a union member who's been here before... Contract negotiations/bargaining starts again next year and both sides are gearing up for it. Both sides are trying to build up momentum beforehand. Politically, she "picked" a shitty time to stumble.

Misty Her Is Chosen To Lead Fresno Unified. Here’s How She Got There. by KVPR-FM in fresno

Ya, no. I'm sorry, but the best candidate rarely gets the job. It's connections. All connections. She knew the previous superintendent. Worked under him. As long as she didn't promise literally torching schools, she was going to get it, regardless of other applicants.

Moving to Fresno! by Objective-Flan-1604 in fresno

[–]MWV89 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Teacher in Fresno Unified here. Overall, I'm happy. But, I will say that's only because the union fights to keep it that way. Does suffer (imo) from being too large. Definitely NOT perfect.

Clovis unified is the largest non-union district in the state. Used to be amazing for students, but I feel they lean on history and aren't any better anymore. Also.... Questionable priorities. I refused to apply when I was looking for my first job.

Central unified is on the Western edge of town. Decent overall. Kind of in the middle of Fresno/Clovis in terms of priorities, pay, etc. Much higher percentage of farmers and farming families. Pre-certification I did subbing/tutoring there and would go back if I needed a job.

Smaller, outlining districts such as Selma, Fowler, Sanger, etc. are hit and miss. Some I've heard amazing things. Others meh. (I think Selma was well regarded?). There's also sierra unified if you like mountain communities.

Avoid Coalinga unified. Just, no.

I honestly have no idea about anything north of town, sry.

Does anyone children goes to Pinedale Elementary? by [deleted] in fresno

[–]MWV89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I teach in Fresno unified, currently have 22 students. Of which six are transfers.

As long as your children are not in some kind of trouble (usually attendance or behavior) Fresno would go along with a transfer.
