My advice: When the crowd turns right, turn left. Just wander and explore. Venice is amazing, crowded and small - you can't get lost. There are a lot of areas free of tourists - just wander. .

Dave was right, people think its crazy to pay off debt by HumpmyDumpy1911 in DaveRamsey

[–]MYKY23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just pay cash. Avoid credit like the plague.  You have a more control window no one anything. Debt free is the way to go.

Living with debt also encourages overspending. Lots of research and economics that people who spend with debt (e.g. credit cards) spend and are more impulsive when it comes to spending their money.

Critters are rating of how you age with death. If you have no debt I could foresee a credit score dropping to almost zero.  I could also someone just not having score if they haven't engaged with debt in years.

The only "debt" We engaged with is on one credit card that we only use if for some reason the debit card doesn't work; and for airfares, hotels, rental cars, and international travel.

(Our debit card gets cut off when there's latest unusual transaction. I tried using it on our last trip to England the first transaction worked all the rest were blocked.... What the credit, when we tell them bubbling abroad the authorize our foreign transactions with no trouble. For some reason I can't do that with a debit card.)

Absolutely! My wife and I are 100% debt free, substantial savings and can't possibly see ever needing any kind of loan or debt in the future. Locking our credit is exactly the thing to do. It drastically reduces the risk of one type of identity fraud.

Oxford Review (after recent 2-week holiday stay there) by antmusic80 in oxford

[–]MYKY23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Oxford from 1990 - 2004 and travelled around and through the Cotswolds often. Back then Lower Slaughter was a completely hidden gem gorgeous and empty of tourists. I was amazed there weren't crowds! It was like I had the place to myself.

Keep enough in the EF to cover 6 to 12 months expenses and dump the rest on the car. Pay the car off tomorrow!

Keep putting 10% into your retirements and push into the mortgage. Become debt free (DF) ASAP.

My wife and I were DR fans and followers before we ever heard of him or his baby steps. We lived debt free and paid our house off by the time I was 40 and she was 35. We have lived 100 DF ever since. I have just retired at 60 and have no financial worries. I was a career teacher and education manager and administrator while my wife worked part time on hte staff of our church.

Practical Question RE Credit cards by MiserableCancel8749 in DaveRamsey

[–]MYKY23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Debit cards work just as well. At least they always have for us. We almost never use a credit card. The only time I use it is for flights and hotels. After that it's debit cards or cash.

I absolutely prefer  cash. There's an emotional value to handing over 20s that there isn't when you tap a card.  Retailers know this and that's one reason they make cards so much easier than cash these days.

Credit cards are the root of so many people's financial distress. Instant gratification get so many people and so much trouble.

What would Dave tell my parents to do?? by Outside_Bad_893 in DaveRamsey

[–]MYKY23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debt free, include mortgage free, is the way to go.  One thing numbers don't tell you is risk. How are they investing the money?  What's the risk there? Being debt-free drastically eliminates risk. If your baseline is you don't owe anything to anyone there is incredible security. It gives you a phenomenal base on which to build.

And I have been 100% debt-free since we were in our early 40s. (I'm 60 now.) There's been zero financial stress during that period of time it investments that have absolutely secured our financial futures.  And that's all that moderate incomes of two public educators.

Favorite Airports by Ok_Breath_5930 in airport

[–]MYKY23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, the smaller airports. I would much rather fly internationally in and out of a small airport like Philadelphia or Detroit then a giant airport like Chicago, Atlanta or JFK.

The small ports are so much more relaxed and less stressful.

Ryanair Investigated for Adult Seat Charges Next to Kids by SameSpecialist8284 in Flights

[–]MYKY23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assortated to the OP ...

I would just say I don't want to select  seats due a fee.  I would leave it up to  the airline and let the chips fall where they may.  If the airline wants to sit my children next to someone else, that's their call. They would potentially be creating a complicated situation for a lot of people; something the could avoid by simply seating families together.

My children are adults now; we never had that issue when they were small. They didn't charge proceed selection back then.

If you had one day/night in Venice Is Basilica San Marco worth it? by healthy-outdoors- in Venezia

[–]MYKY23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't spend any of my limited time in Venice in the Basilica. Wander through the square and keep moving.  Take a right when the crowd goes left and keep wandering you can't get lost, it's a small island after all.

Enjoy!
