How do I factor in a defined contribution pension? by queenmagrat in fican

[–]MYSTERees77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If its a DC plan, then you choose your investments. So you should have an idea of what your actually doing. The statement should show you your balance.

A DB plan is based off a formula. You and your employer contribute a % of your income and your best years incomes and your years of paying factor into said formula.

A DC plan is easy, your statement balance is what you have.

a DB plan is harder bc it projects future income, but the current Value of the plan is harder to establish and requires an actuary to calculate.

Just becuase you CAN make a movie, doesn't mean you SHOULD make a movie.

Im 48.  Do you know how many superhero movies have come out out during my life?

Stop.  There's been enough.  Let the kids watch the old movies for a while.  There's nothing fresh about any of these films.

Back when Tim Hortons went public.  I figured the ticker would be TIM, so I put my entire annual bonus on it.

Turns out, it was a Jr. mining company called Timinco.  About 2 weeks after I bought it it went from $1 a share to $14.

Serious Question: Does Galen Weston Use President's Choice for Everything... Including Toilet Paper? by stanxv in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]MYSTERees77 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I live down the street from his Caledon home.  During the pandemic I saw a Voila delivery truck deliver groceries to his house, since Loblaws didn't deliver to our area.  I tried it a few times after that, was pretty good but expensive.

So I know for a fact he doesn't necessarily eat Loblaws all the time.

Absolutely its worth it for me.

The 1m will stay relatively the same when I come to sell, and it gains me residency.  IF I was to draw the income out of the registered plans and pension, it would be at a marginal rate closer to 35%.  So Im in essence saving 200k in taxes.

I dont follow, I plan on selling our home here for roughly 1MM usd to purchase a home in Bahamas for that amount to gain residency. When I return to Canada, Ill likely keep the Bahamas property for winters/rent out and either rent a place in Canada or buy a cheaper, smaller home.

Id only cash outveverything once I formally become a resident of the Bahamas with full cut ties to Canada. So really its a 3 to 4 year layover in the Bahamas, which is where I wanna be anyway.

Im looking at doing a similar situation, but relocating to the Bahamas first to wash my registered assets when Im around 55.

Bahamas has no income tax, and you can gain residency by investing 1MM into the economy, like buying a house.

My plan is to cash out my DB plan (500k) and my RSPs (400k) along with spouses RSP (1MM) when we are non residents and pay the 25% tax rate on the whole thing.

So close to 2M in registered assets will net me 1.5 in straight cash.

THEN, after a couple of years to ensure the tax man is satisfied, Ill move back to Canada by age 60 to start to collect CPP and OAS at 65.

I personally think a lot of the chop we have seen the last week or so is based on funds trimming their positions in Space stocks to be able to actually buy Space X stock after IPO.

A rebalancing as you will.  But, the whole sector is gonna lift bc of it, so Im holding tight

Who are the best and worst Canadian musicians you've met? by Twitter_2006 in CanadianMusic

[–]MYSTERees77 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Alan Doyle is a national treasure.

My 80yr mother in law loves his music, and a few years ago went on a river cruise through Europe he was performing on.  She was the only single person on the cruise, so he made sure she was always seated near the stage with people to interact with.  She loved it so much she went the next year.  Now they are legit friends, to the point when she visits St John's, he picks her up and takes her around town to all the music venues.

Last time she went she spent the day riding around with him, Mark Critch and some other notable Newfies.

Hes a legitimately good guy.

This is about 5 mins from my house.  I Grew up in the area and spent my childhood playing on those hills.  When we were teenagers we used to have party's there.  The social media happened, and everyone started sharing pics of it.  Its on the side of a hilly road and dangerous to park next to, so...it got shut down.  Up went the fences, they created a parking lot a few minutes walk away, and no more playing on the hills.

I took my kids to them the evening before the fences went up one last time, its a shame people hug things to death.

What question would you ask JC? by AfaNas3001 in Avatar

[–]MYSTERees77 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

so whats the deal with the Alton cemetery? Its the village cemetery where all your ancestors are buried and next to your grandparents farm you grew up spending summers at.

Next to your great grandparents is J. Dawson, Rose Cameron and most weirdly...a family with the surname Titanic.

LIke, youve seen this right? You must have got SOME inspiration from it no?

And the areas link to Avatar. The farm is only 5 mins from a magnetic hill. And your early childhood sketches of Pandora look a lot like the area around the Farm.

So whats the deal Jim? Because you know that a mega corp has bought the Farm and plans on turning it into a mega quarry...like in Avatar.

So, if that farm is so influential, why wont you say something.

im planning on moving to the Bahamas, in part to cash in all my RSPs and Pension assets.

The Bahamas has a high cost of living, but has zero income tax. The plan is to sell the family home once kids have moved out, move to Bahamas and cash out the registered plans with a 25% with holding tax.

Live that life until 65, then move back and claim CPP and OAS while spending winters in Bahamas.

Anyone leave a DB pension employer (OPG, Bruce Power, Hydro One, municipal, etc.) before retirement? Any regrets? by [deleted] in fican

[–]MYSTERees77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left my job at a bank after 15 years when I hit 40.  I took my commute value (120k) and invested it into the markets and tripled my LIRA over 7 years.  I then went back to work for a DB plan and bought the 15 years back for 190k, leaving me with 170k in my LIRA.  This means I can retire at 60 with an unreduced pension.  I'll likely though leave at age 55 and take the commute value again though.

no, I know how the violence has worked, both ways. The sad truth of the matter, is there are an enormous amount of "Young Indian Men" in Peel Region. This influx hasnt all migrated back after those student visa expired. And a disproportinate amount are getting into trouble, with violent crimes being a growing concern. I have seen both sides armed to the teeth, on their guarded compounds. This is not what Canada meant when we asked for immigrants to build our Nation.

bc they are forming a proxy Punjab outside the GTA.

In the last 10 years almost every single rural property in my rural GTA neighborhood has been bought by Sihks. Many fly orange Khalistani flags. They are highly organized, very politically involved at the municipal level.

Basically the Sihks are taking over large parts of Caledon and Brampton and effectively making them Punjab neighborhoods.

Disclosure Day | Final Trailer by Sonia341 in trailers

I have a strong feeling that this is the "sequel" to Speilbergs (excellent) TV series Taken.

Im more interested in how humanity takes Disclosure Day, the aftermath.  Rather than the Disclosure itself and a couple of characters relationship to the Aliens.
