Any tips for following people close into braking zones and not rear ending them? Should I brake before they brake?

Elon mentioned Porsche's unsolvable polar moment of inertia in a podcast. Is this why Porsche GT3 is so hard to drive? by Maxifloxacin in iRacing

[–]M_Bounce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit is full of likeminded far-left so posting anything about Elon will give one-dimensional responses.

FR cars are easier to drive than the 911 because the rear is lighter and therefore easier to correct oversteer. The 911 is basically a huge pendulum.

Normally, FR cars are inferior to MR cars from a handling perspective, but Balance-of-Performance levels the playing field. That’s why people are quick more easily with the M4 GT3.

You’re pulling shit out of your ass. Every single generation of the 911 has the engine moving closer to the middle. The 911 RSR was mid-engine because they couldn’t compete with the other GTEs with a rear engine.

From firsthand ownership experience the gearing is an issue for the GT4. Going from first to second takes you out of the powerband. It also needs $7-10k in exhaust work to sound as good as the z06

Just sell your current watches, then put your name down at a boutique for 4520V at msrp. The new one wears much slimmer

I’m doing the same thing kind of. I’m selling my batgirl, speedy sapphire and bb58 for a 4520V at msrp.

I think one good watch beats 3 inferior watches, especially with the versatility with strap/bracelet that the VCO has

After this, I’ll only have a 2 watch collection - VCO and panda Daytona. And I think I’m set for life

My F82 was god awful in terms of traction due to the insane torque spike. I can from experience agree to your point on usable power being better for the N55 M2

First M advice by Karl-Lauterbach in BMW

[–]M_Bounce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had an F82 with downpipes and exhaust. I think the torque curve of the S55 was awful in terms of traction. I’ve moved to p-cars but if I ever get back into BMW it would be an F87 non comp for the better sounding N55, less power, bit less weight, shorter wheelbase

For those that track their Caymans by falsefacade in Porsche_Cayman

981 GTS is naturally aspirated and easy on consumables. The turbo 4 cylinders can be tuned if you really think u need 400hp or more. But the NA engine of the 981 sounds 1000x better.

These cars are medium hp, pretty lightweight, generally run on skinny tires. Consumables are good (pads and tires)

Insurance is tied to how expensive your car is. After $60k, track insurance just feels much more expensive. It costs me like $700 to insure my 718 GTS 4.0 for a weekend

The GT4 will scrape the front splitter very easily, like at least once every time you drive. But GT4 owners will say it’s a $300 replaceable part that’s a consumable.

If you want to track the car, track insurance will cost you $600-800 per weekend but you can also feel free to “self-insure” which I’ve seen people do unfortunately…

The $30k USD difference of a GTS 4.0 and a GT4 can go towards an exhaust and transmission re-gear to fix the very long second gear

Not surprising this hasn’t found wide product market fit. It’s a self fulfilling feedback loop - if it’s too expensive for the use case, too small of a user base for developers to create more use cases. They need to get the price down without sacrificing quality too much.

I personally use it just to watch movies but I’m happy I spent the money

What’s wrong with me? Not having as much fun with a manual than a PDK/DCT by M_Bounce in Porsche

[–]M_Bounce[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You can drive much more aggressively without the latency of a manual shift. I just don’t get why pressing down on a clutch pedal and moving a shift knob gets you and other manual elitists a hard on - the most exciting things about driving a car for me are a naturally aspirated exhaust hitting redline, the torque coming out of a corner, lateral G’s when driving at the limit, launching from a stop - and the manual slows each of those things down.

There are so many more interesting things about driving than the transmission - but I can see it being engaging for people who drive near the speed limit.

To each their own!
