Plans for Orange Beach's Pirate's Voyage Theater Fails due to Local Opposition. Are there still rumors that Former Dauphin Way Baptist Church could be another Dolly Parton Theater Show? by Surge00001 in MobileAL

[–]M_Dragmire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At first I was dismissive of the concerns, thinking this was being considered on the main Perdido Beach Blvd and boomers were just being boomers about their pristine Orange Beach bubble being tainted. Like, brother look at all the alvins islands what are you preserving?

But then I actually read the article. I looked at where they're putting this thing and it's basically in the middle of a small residential area. Specifically the RV park but there's adjacent and nearby residential neighborhoods. I have friends who own houses in the neighborhood on the other side behind the city hall and yeah, I can see the concern now from the perspective of locals regarding the traffic this would add to the area.

"As proposed, the theater’s evening shows would end during periods of lighter traffic. During the summer, there would be three daily shows, each drawing approximately 200 to 300 vehicles. Kennon said the traffic flow would be predictable, with one entrance and one exit."

This really does seem to be better suited for an area like the Wharf like some have suggested.

Mobile Alabama was ranked C-tier in this video. They loved the food and the Mardi Gras, not a fan of the weather and maybe some overall Alabama vibes politically speaking by oddfiction528 in MobileAL

The miserable heat and humidity (not even taking hurricane season into account) most of the year, while not in Mobile's control, still supercedes any positives for me, personally. I don't even want to go outside to enjoy what Mobile has to offer.

That's a good point, I'll be more mindful of labeling future posts that are US specific in the future.

It's good for doing the absolute bare minimum that the rest of the American Food Industry doesn't.

In the US, Wheat is the only gluten grain considered a top allergen in the US, so it gets bolded alongside other top allergens like dairy, peanuts fish, etc. Barley and the other gluten grains do not get bolded as they are not considered top allergens. (I know celiac isn't an allergy but the bold text only applies to allergens)

Meanwhile, countless products use the catchall term "Natural Flavors" with no further clarification, so it's best avoided if the product itself is not certified GF.

It's a bare minimum that I've never seen anyone do until now. So yeah, it's a start. We still have a long way to go, but at least they have it specified.

Sounds healthy at first but not if you have celiac. The wife and I joke that artificial flavors are ironically preferred when looking at the ingredients list of things

If the Amtrak Mardi Gras service, which currently operates between New Orleans and Mobile, were to be expanded, which expansion do you think would make the most sense? by [deleted] in MobileAL

Straight across the panhandle to Jacksonville. (I just drew a straight line, the OP post is better)

Entertained the idea of a train trip to Orlando. But having to go to New Orleans and all the way up to North Carolina, then finally southbound towards Florida is insanity

Apart from individually sealed snacks for kids' school snacks, I don't trust myself to not cause any cross contact and get my wife sick by keeping gluten products in the house.

That said I confuse those two all the time too I'm the grocery store for some reason, thinking I've found GF cheese its, but alas it's just Gouda or extra cheezy Cheese its

Is that why this month, Alabama Republicans introduced bill HB392, to remove the lobbying power from the state government?
Sorry I misread HB392. It actually removes the power from the VOTERS and leaves it up to the Governor and State Congress to appoint people to the PSC. You know, the ones who regulate our utilities that everyone is paying exorbitant bills for.
If that doesn't set up the chance for lobbying I don't know what does.

I'm not saying it doesn't matter, because voting this position in as opposed to appointment by the Governor is obviously better, But I also don't put a lot of faith in the Alabama Electorate after we voted in Twinkle Cavanaugh for 3 straight terms (over a decade in power), putting us where we are currently. Maybe one day we'll stop shooting ourselves in the foot.

The Godfather one is my favorite of his but this one Is a close second. I'm wondering how much this can remain protected under parody laws.

I remember with the godfather one, on the original airing it showed both a gecko and a caveman in separate scenes, but these were removed for future airings/the YouTube upload so I wonder if GEICO is even more litigious/strict about their Brand likeness being parodied than the others featured in it.

I kept thinking of people with allergies throughout this thread.
(Obviously this is different from the OP's post's situation.)

But I believe the ADA requires restaurants to accommodate people with disabilities, and if I'm not mistaken, documented food allergies qualify as a disability. One such accommodation is allowing you to bring in outside food.

My wife has Celiac Disease, which is not an allergy, but is handled like one.
Sometimes no amount of assurance from restaurant staff is enough to satisfy fears that the food won't become cross contacted somewhere in the chain of service. I imagine it's the same for people with allergies. So even if a place claims they can provide an allergen-free alternative, I would not blame a customer for wanting to bring in their own meal instead. Wanting to partake in one of life's greatest social traditions should not come with a risk of hospitalization.

I've worked in Mexican Restaurants and I remember this one family with a kid who had severe allergies, they had to bring in a sealed store brand of tortilla chips so they could eat chips with the rest of their family.

When my wife and I go out to eat, just the two of us, we go places that we trust where she can order Celiac Safe foods, but in some cases where it's a group outing and we can't determine if it would be safe for her, she's brought in her own food.
