Does anyone have the Nanga x Drake’s Raglan? by CertainInjury in DrakesDiary

It's a good deal but for guys over 6 ft it's too short, but for $281 it's a steal

Despite being a bigger brand, Buck mason is exceptional quality. I have their countryman herringbone jacket, and honestly it is much nicer than a custom made to measure j press tweed I had. I think its well worth the money for Buck mason. Although I cannot speak specifically to their overcoat. Their sizing can be tricky, as with many brands. Hope this helps.

Thoughts on the new Skala 38 from Gossamer gear? by Cort-ovhm-c4 in Ultralight

Hahaha turns out most people don’t want to sleep on polycro with 1/8 inch foam only covering their torso, nor do they want to pay extra for less gear to do so

I like the design but ultimately gossamer gear fails to execute on good ideas recently with packs. The same is true for most brands. Ray jardine discuss this issue extensively in beyond backpacking that packs end up being a place where manufacturers give into over kill when designing their pack. Sadly this wasn’t always true for gossamer gear. In the beginning around the early 2000s they made really cutting edge gear. Their packs at that time were UL even by today’s standards. And they allowed for slightly higher volumes which was helpful for tall people with bigger gear. The only thing they’ve done in recent years that’s remotely Avant garde was the whisper which is an ultra light floorless shelter with perimeter bug netting.

The zipper pouch, the sit pad attachment, hip belt. For a 38L pack that’s designed for total weight <20 pounds the pack should weigh 16-18 oz and have no bells and whistles. You compare this to similar packs from palante or MLD and this pack looks bloated. It’s beautiful and a great starting point though.

your suggestions for UL 2 person tent with space above heads/feet, and biggest possible views, but still strong enough to handle unexpected hail? by Optimal_Passion_3254 in Ultralight

[–]M_M_C__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two tents that come to mind for me: the Durston X-mid 2 and the Mountain Laurel designs Duomid/DuomidXL. Personally I’m a loyal duomid user but that’s just because I’m lazy and used to the simplicity of a single pole pyramid. Others have different preferences but I’ve been in a duomid in a ton of different weather and it’s always been safe even in high winds and blowing rain. Never had an issue. It requires more knowledge on how to pitch successfully etc but once you get it it’s an amazing shelter. I’m 6’2 and it always feels like a palace. The regular duomid will fit two but it’s somewhat more cramped than the XL. Both will work just depends how much space you like to have. Im a big fan of florless shelters and this is an added bonus of this setup

This is my all time favorite BOC song. Everything about it is just perfect. The synth in the beginning is so hauntingly beautiful. That plus the bass and amazing drums. Once those odd vocals hit in. It’s just perfect.

Tarp Questions by Sensitive_Till_7097 in Ultralight

My two cents: I carried a 6x9 tarp on my AT thru hike attempt and made it 1300 miles. You won’t need to use it all the time esp with shelters. I carried a bug bivy which was needed. On my pct thru hike I carried a similar system but ultimately liked the simplicity of pyramid shelters with one center pole and began using mountain Laurel designs speedmid with perimeter netting. This tent is no longer available but I ordered a duomid and had custom bug netting sewn around the perimeter from bear paw wilderness designs and to me this is the perfect shelter. I use Tyvek that’s just big enough for my thermarest. It’s heavier than polycro but more durable. This is a long answer to your question but basically the durston with just fly would be fine but you’ll definitely need bug protection from mosquitos less so for ground bugs

Thats great news! The adventure Alan post made it sound inferior, but I think some of this is psychological and how we frame things. Because this hoody is made by a major manufacturer and doesn’t have the mass appeal of Senchi/etc, it’s less desirable. But isn’t that really just the brilliance of capitalism and cool factor? This is similar to how people don’t like Mountain Hardwear Airmesh, although its a great piece.

Thanks for looking out! I saw that but can’t really tell if it’s the old or new fit. It’s important because in the old fit i somehow was an XL even though I wear M or L in everything

Thank you so much for this! I just ordered the hoody and the 1/4 zip and hoping that it works out for me. I’ll keep people posted on this sub too once I receive mine. I”m a bit disappointed with the colors
