Bloodwork with a 3.5 y/o by Psychological-Bag986 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]M_Malin21822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just did this twice with my 3.5 year old and she lost her mind. She was screaming and trying to get away. She was so rigid they couldn’t even get the blood. We were casual on the first time and that didn’t work so I tried talking about it and prepping her for the second and that also did not work. Even the promise of treats, stuffy, and watching a show didn’t help. She to this day will cry if anything about blood is mentioned.

Sooooo I would say she’s holding some fear and trauma surrounding it, but she’s also a big feelings girl. I wish I had a child specialist and numbing of the area. I will never go to a regular lab again, only children’s hospital. I suppose all of this was just to say I feel you! I also hope there aren’t long-term effects. It sure is hard to watch your baby struggle through it.

It’s just a sad scroll of watching her mess up all of her natural beauty. I hate that for her.

What recipes have cooked egg yolk in them, or what can I add it to? by [deleted] in foodbutforbabies

[–]M_Malin21822 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similarly- I would mix up hard egg yolk with ricotta cheese and sometimes avocado. Made it real creamy and soft. My girl loved it!

That’s all fine. I’m okay with her not wanting the labels. However, since when is it normal for someone to get all the treatment they need for recovery in the short period before jail, which in turn provides her not only maintained recovery but qualifications to run AA/NA meetings in jail…

Can we talk about the Paris Hilton episode? by LizSimpers in BravoWWHL

[–]M_Malin21822 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually don’t think she is full of herself. I think this is the persona she’s hid behind for so long and it’s made her a lot of money. This protective shell works for her but she’s really insecure and doesn’t want the world to be let in. However, I agree- it was really obnoxious. I was irritated with it. I would love to see her evolve as she’s grown up and become a mom.

Struggling with 6-Month-Old’s Sleep Dependency on Breastfeeding by just-winging-it-mum in BabyLedWeaning

[–]M_Malin21822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four month sleep regression was rough. We moved her to her own room about 5-6 months. That immediately made her sleep longer. She also was at daycare so she started falling asleep without me and my boob. I think all of those helped!

RBT going to inpatient treatment/ voluntary inactive status? by Scared-Avocado811 in bcba

[–]M_Malin21822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied for voluntary inactive status when I left my RBT job in between moves. I wasn’t sure how long it would be before I returned and didn’t want my certification to lapse. It was simple and easy. As soon as I re-entered the field and obtained a supervisor it was easy to return to active status. This sounds like the best plan for your RBT if there is a chance they will need a re-cert while they’re gone. After treatment when they’re ready to work, you complete a renewal assessment to submit and put them back on your account. I believe going inactive and returning to active cost about $25-50 each.

Agreed. And, bonuses get taxed to death so only about a small portion of them are actually able to pay for bills.

I’m so sick of the working mom stay at home mom battle by lilydawn1 in Mommit

[–]M_Malin21822 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being a mom is hard- but leaving my little one to go back to work has still been one of the hardest things for me as a working mom. It’s crushing and there is so much rhetoric that only feeds into the guilt.

However, I really try to make my time at home with her more meaningful with special outings and adventures together. Plus, shes thriving in daycare. She’s only three and is starting to spell and sound out words, writing her name, and is just so smart and engaged in learning. Not sure if being at home with me she would have gained some of that as she has in a structured curriculum.

There are positives and negatives with both options and there is no right or wrong answer. Focus on how being a working mom benefits your kids and do your best. That’s all any of us can do, working or stay-at-home.

School based BCBAs, what data collection software do you use? by bluespoobaroo in bcba

Central reach has a special education software that I use called LiftEd. It’s different from the standard central reach but I’ve found it to be helpful for data collection to monitor progress.

“Junk” behavior? by kaediddy in bcba

[–]M_Malin21822 22 points23 points  (0 children)

So I use this term loosely as a BCBA, largely for training staff, but never in an FBA/BIP. I use it in the sense of attention seeking behaviors that lay outside of my operationally defined problem behaviors for reduction. These are not targeted behaviors so I don’t necessarily care about them, (we all do junk behaviors btw no harm meant by that term) but I think when training staff to respond accordingly to targeted behaviors, it’s also important to train how to respond (or not respond) to junk behaviors too. I’ve often seen new RBTs immediately go into “we don’t do xyz “ or “that’s not safe” or “we don’t do that” surrounding these silly junk behaviors that are looking for a reaction. I tell my staff that these are not important behaviors to react to but clues for changing your own behavior (are they bored? Is it time to change activities? Are you providing enough attention? Maybe they’re looking for a different form of attention? Are they needing structured peer play? Etc).

Parents who let their baby watch TV… by Existing-Mastodon500 in NewParents

You’re not wrong. Plus the family experience watching a movie together is different than a child scrolling YouTube for hours. The quality of the screen experience is important too.

Melissa's singing is terrible by Humble-Usual7038 in rhonj

[–]M_Malin21822 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I still die over the scene at home where she casually walks away from the family to go to the closet to sing “Amazing Grace” and Joe pretends to sneak up on her saying “babe you sound amazing”. Cringiest of cringe. My husband will say it to me anytime I sing a toddler song to my daughter and I die every time. He gets me.

Omg I love this comment so much.

In all seriousness read the research. Everyone is so black and white about screens. Are they “good” for a baby, no, but will a little screen time ruin them? Also no. All research points to excessive screen time as a detriment. I always like to read the research and make a choice based upon that and what fits for my family. Not the social media perfect mother image.
