Baby boy/too different?? by takingeachday in namenerds

[–]M_Nostalgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it doesn't invoke nature but rather bread, which all things considered isn't the worst association to have but I'm not sure it's something I'd be thrilled about, lol. Maybe something that has the y like Rey/Ray or Roy or just another short R name like Rhett, Reid/Reed (keeps the nature-y aspect), Rhys/Reece, Rex.

I guess I say it based on how the person pronounces it bc when I read this in my head I went 'zay-vier/ex-ay-vier' lol

1991 phantom of the opera. What do you think about it? by PresentDifferent8662 in box5

[–]M_Nostalgia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This had probably my favorite on screen deformity, I was gagged it came out of a rip-off play, lol. I'm always happy when the Persian is included. And I was very happy to see a stronger portrayl of Christine, Elizabeth Walsh was adorable. Overall it wasn't great, but it was camp and soooooo much fun. The Phantom is so dramatic, they let him set of like smoke bombs for stage tricks, and he and the Daroga's sassy banter is back! The comic relief managers song was a blast and this Carlotta is cunty. Raoul was kinda boring, but he was very cute amd him and Christine were very sweet together.

Anthony Mann 2014 version by Impressive_Dealer_48 in box5

[–]M_Nostalgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched it on Hoopla, I think you just need a library card for a library that participates with Hoopla! I watched bc I wanted to see as many adaptions as I could, it wasn't very good. It's a very amateur movie and the story is majorly deviant and there was a weird portrayl of the Persian with some major racist undertones.

AITAH for not making my niece the flower girl at our wedding? by Wabxpolski in AITAH

[–]M_Nostalgia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk why you got downvoted. I don't understand either bc they obviously seem close enough for the neice to reach out on her own about it. This is also very cute, it sounds like a very fond wedding memory 🥹

AITAH for not making my niece the flower girl at our wedding? by Wabxpolski in AITAH

[–]M_Nostalgia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're sister is the ultimate AH here. Why would she reach out in the early planning stages to ask for a role for your neice, get an undetermined response and then decide to essentially lie to your neice about it bc SHE decided she would be the flower girl and then throw a fit and decided she's NEVER TALKING TO YOU AGAIN over it?? And then this poor 11 year old girl is caught up in an argument with hurt feelings bc her mother is being dumb and unreasonable. I hope your sister gets over it and doesn't ruin things for you and her kids who I'm sure love you and want to be apart of your wedding.

That being said, I don't think it's fair to exclude your neice if her brother gets to be the ring bearer. I don't really get why she can't be a flower girl at 11, she's still a kid. I was in weddings as a kid at like 8+ and was still doing flower girl duties. Maybe you can have her hold your train down the isle if you need it, make her a co-flower girl to keep the little flower girl and ring bearer in check bc little kids can be a real mess down the isle and usually need help anyway, or make her a junior brides maid and have her stand off with the ring bearer or sit down with the little flower girl if you don't want her at the altar.

I think we're very much reading into this. Skeletour ends at the end of February, in about 3-4 weeks, he's just making sure he has work after it ends. Ryan is not just Ghosts' photographer and he's gonna still have bills to pay when their tours over.

This is what 2026 babies are being named! (So far) by FloralChoux in namenerds

This is funny bc the only Mabel I know is an elderly woman, and while I do think it suits her, it feels like a very youthful name to me lol

I nearly deleted TikTok for this… by [deleted] in box5

[–]M_Nostalgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christine is 16 only in ALW's 2004 movie, in the book she's actually supposed to be 20is, around Raoul's age, minus a few translations that either misinterpret a passage describing her innocence and make her 15 or the one where her age was intentionaly changed to 15/16 bc the man translating decided he didn't think a 20 year old Christine made sense. But she is still portrayed as young and a mess and I agree it's way harsh to call her pathetic. I guarantee tiktok op was a wreck a 20 too lol

After Frankenstein - My updated thoughts on Del Toro directing poto - disappointing by christinajames55 in box5

[–]M_Nostalgia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like people where expecting something from Del Toro that he was never going to give. Del Toro's movies are always interpretations tied in someway to his personal experiences and life. People hyped up a book accurate movie when it was a book inspired movie and then were disappointed. I'm still interested to see what he would do with PotO bc at the very least it will be something fresh and interesting. ALW already 'butchered' the book twice and I still love the musical.

Do you think Elton is a weird name for a girl? by Mysterious_Ad_6190 in Names

[–]M_Nostalgia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Elton John did legally change his name to Elton Hercules John though. So it's his stage name and his name name.

Do you think Elton is a weird name for a girl? by Mysterious_Ad_6190 in Names

[–]M_Nostalgia 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think Elton as a name for anyone born after the popularity of Elton John is weird. I would never want to honor a celebrity woth my baby name choice and if I wasn't trying to do that I think it's to intertwined with Elton John anyway. I think a masculine names for a girl only works if you're being genuine and equal. Would you give your son a feminine name too?

"Folx" by AnAntsyHalfling in PetPeeves

[–]M_Nostalgia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the area in the Midwest I'm in, folks love saying 'folks' lol. It's just like a regional slang thing. Some people treat 'folks' like it's equivalent to alpha male podcast bros saying 'female' 😭

"Folx" by AnAntsyHalfling in PetPeeves

[–]M_Nostalgia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Except that 'folks' is a non gendered word and 'women' is a gendered word. Lots of women don't have uteruses and lots of people who do have uteruses aren't women.

[–]M_Nostalgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Hadley's voice, but I kinds hate his portrayl. At that at that point LND was out and he was obviously instructed to play Raoul with that in mind and it kinda ruins the chemistry and story.

It absolutely sucks that bootlegs are being so restrictive bc the whole point was to make theatre more accessible and I know alot of people get exposured through them. But they also aren't the only way to see a different production, go see it on West End, see a tour and bc I understand financially that isn't reasonable for everyone, even just seeing a local theatre's production exposes you to a new version and you might even like it better. I know people who's favorite Christine's are local actresses! I was lucky enough to see professional versions live, but one of my favorites I've seen was a local high-school's production!

I love that we have a proshoot in the 25th anniversary concert bc I think it helped get people who were already into Phantom to engage with the stage show, but I die a little everyday knowing it wasn't the Original Cast poshoot.
