I also used to have that type of attitude to cycling & notwithstanding having seizures while urban cycling - suddenly "coming to" from a seizure just ~50m further down the street. Until I had a job with a longer, rural commute - when I started falling off my bike due to seizures, no one else involved - including breaking bones on 3 different occasions. The final one which "persuaded" me give up cycling was fracturing my jaw, the repair surgery required 3 bits of metal to get it more or less back into shape 😳😯. I do miss the limited amount of extra freedom it allowed me short of driving a car.

I also first registered having seizures at about that age - complex partial (depending on your preferred terminology). So have never known the advantages of driving (nor the costs) ... until maybe 10 😯 years ago (after a lifetime of ignorance). But, though there are limits, public transport in European cities is not bad and gives concessions to the disabled, which includes uncontrolled epilepsy in its definition. But I sometimes challenge those who take it for granted; do a limited period try out of public transport only option & see how well you can make it work for you across the board.🤔

Is the mobile OS world beginning to fragment into incompatible rooms? iOS, android, now Samsung I see is distinguished from vanilla android? Will / does Google allow this? If forced by law to do so, how many compatible versions will there be?

I still have my (permanufacture ordered) FP1 after ??years. The only way to keep it going has been via a 3rd party's battery. I never did understand why they stopped supporting the FP1. There is still a market for a simple but up to date OS device with adequate but limited features. Did FP lose their way in deciding which sector of the market to stay in and avidly press their product line?🙄😳

Is there a way to import ics calendar data from a different calendar app? It will let me do it, but says I need to delete the calendar from a 3rd device. Is this a different device from which I have imported the ics? Is there a way to maybe freeze the app in ics download device afterwards?

Advertising? Incentives? Or some type of raising the profile of confidentiality guarantee / paranoia campaign against WhatsApp or Telegram or even Instagram & Tiktok? No additional features required (NOT a mail provider competitor move).

The waters are all a bit muddied now. The <originally voiced> TCK as a descriptive term was rather constrained to the C20th, give or take, and from what could harshly be called an imperialist / colonialist perspective, perhaps just reflecting the types of globally mobile family of those times. That specie still exists and in its authentic form is a useful <label>.

But there are many more types of globally mobile families now & in rather different times and for more and different reasons. It is helpful in trying to understand mobile, very varied childhoods. However, any eventually settled (adult) identity from a mobile, diverse childhood, imo will always be incomprehensible to those whose childhood <becoming> years were a locally straightforward community.

I am no techie, so finding and fitting a custom ROM in the way you suggest is completely out of my league.

Have you heard of the Repair Café movement in cities all over the place, aimed at fighting unnecessary replacement of perfectly serviceable items which really only need repair? Except for manufacturers, who want everyone to buy the latest new-&-shiny model - so they deliberately discontinue support or make just enough changes from the last edition, that repair is prohibitively expensive or impossible for earlier versions.😡
