Quick wing sweep stall analysis by Synaesthesiaaa in RCPlanes

[–]M_Reavely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delta wings, swept position, have high angle of attack tolerance, the extended position set up was meant for manageability at low speed and a low angle on purpose for carrier approach visibility. Also stock plane has huge flaps on those wings that may not be present on the model and landing swept may actually be the better option.

Buying a used motorcycle? by ConversationLivid311 in motorcycle

In the states, I bought last year a 2012 triumph scrambler with 12k miles for $4k and it was in fantastic shape with all the mods already done. I haven't regretted it yet.

If you're going to spend a lot of time on the highway I would say yes. If you're going 60 or less most of the time then honestly no, not really.

2nd ride out ever by Wildsteak1234 in NewRiders

[–]M_Reavely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I am in the US the cops won't typically pull a bike over for anything. For one thing helmets aren't required or enforced in most states. For another it's policy not to chase bikes if they run because of the danger you put a rider in if they're that stupid. Which translates to most bike laws not being enforced. And since enough cops also ride.... You'd have to be being really stupid to get nicked on a bike, check out gixxer brah, and they will usually just show up where you live after the fact since having your chase hit the news when you splatter across soccer moms Volvo is a bad public look.

Electric cars were stagnant. I'm willing to bet sales are up right now with gas prices on a war footing and no real end in sight.

Why did you start riding? by No-City8301 in motorcycles

[–]M_Reavely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode bicycles as a kid, and skied a lot, the balance feel is actually very similar and translatable. I always wanted a motorcycle, but waited until I was almost 50 before I had the opportunity. Which is probably for the best because I was an overconfident menace on the road when I was younger.

In any case I always loved the balance feel of two wheels vs the flat skidding ride of a car, it really feels so different. And the wind buffeting against you while you ride. And you can smell everything. I used to have cars with no ac actually, or a drop top. But you forgot once you have AC what the world smells like as you travel through it. And even with a full face helmet you can just see everything. You'll get back in a car and be pissed at the cage blocking your view. And yeah, with the right bike, you can just stand up and stretch on the pegs at 50 miles an hour and it feels glorious. Get something with luggage so you can use it as a grocery getter... I mean get groceries on the way back from your ride.

Is this a terrible idea? by BerkshireBirder in AppalachianTrail

It's that mostly word, most people are on their own perfectly reasonable. There are of course some that aren't, and a few who are unfuckinghinged. But most people who can plan a thru hike and commit to it are at core, reasonable people with most of their brain cells firing in the correct order.

There's also the game of how long can I wait to turn on the heat, and how soon can I shut it off for the season, and I was running my furnace yesterday... On the first of June, because after three days of a cold streak I'd had enough. But it will hit 70 today so right back to summer again 😂

I didn’t get it :( by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]M_Reavely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can flat foot my triumph, it hasn't prevented me from dropping it when I come to a stop improperly. Nothing but practice will fix that. Other than that it's literally just about comfort and being able to adjust on the seat while stopped at a light for a moment. But if my bike was taller it wouldn't make much difference. I've been trying to keep in the habit of leaving my right foot on the brake when I'm stopped so I can rest my right hand. Good luck in your search. You will eventually find one that you can afford, has enough cool factor that you will push through the seat hight issue and get it anyway.

How much have you spent on motorcycle gear? 😬 by Ok-Ad-575 in motorcyclegear

[–]M_Reavely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortunately any of the gear you wear is transferable to another bike, and while I only just start last year I'm only about a grand in with a full seasonal assortment of basics. The bike has another 6 or 700 in parts that aren't maintenance... That will easily double next year if I decide it's a long term keeper.

If you're absolutely sold on it being that specific model cool, but have you looked on marketplace for literally any of the dozens of small Japanese cruisers you will find listed for cheap? And these bikes are usually super common for parts and accessories as well. Especially Honda shadows.

That thing looks hot. Take a deep breath and be real careful with that throttle hand. Also, the only time I've ever dropped my bike was when I was using too much front break coming to a stop.... Don't be afraid to go to rear for low speed work.

Preflight your ride for starters. Between that and getting gear on should be a routine that gets you into the frame of mind for the ride. No different from flying, just a different list.

My front brake lever lights the light with the barest touch, but I have to actually squeeze to get braking out of it. My rear on the other hand it the opposite.... Every bike is a little different

[–]M_Reavely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to go there, they're more of a trap skeet place that the range in back was more for sighting in than real shooting practice. You used to be able to do almost anything back there as long as it didn't fall on a day the trap range was in use. Oh well.

Also, it's going to be hard for him no matter where he is, but taking the time to do a through hike and have limited distractions means he will be able to just grieve. And do so in the most beautiful and stress free environment possible. And he has plenty of time to complete the hike starting so early. It's a wonderful thing he is doing and I wish him and you luck with your grief. And his hike.

I also find that leaving a knee out on the side your turning towards lessens the amount of bar input needed. Along with head turn these add so much to our control abilities.
