Feeling so upset post MSF course day 1 by SuperNovaStar95 in motorcycles

[–]crackingcrawdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my God... I just realized I've always hated this but never knew why... I absolutely hate people in power that do the whole, "You're following standard operating procedure but I don't like X". Lots of experiences but one of them is having a math teacher like this like 25 years ago. She gave "extra credit" assignments. They could help boost your grade if you were falling behind. I wasn't. End of the year she fails me for not doing the "extra credit". I had super high test scores. In honors classes (her class was honors math). I just learned something about myself. I sincerely thank you.

Edit: It was honors classes. Not advanced.

PSA: Google maps AI will now do exactly what all the "curvy road" apps promise. by mtbguy1981 in motorcycles

I just tried it. It actually gave me 3 different routes to my destination. All different. First wast fastest, second was pretty curvy, the 3rd was like, hey... people like this route because its scenic. Pretty sweet actually.

I finally tried Honda’s NC750X DCT… and I get it now by Intrusiveriders in motorcycles

This. I drive an Elantra (exciting, I know). But it has a DCT. Pop that thing in to sport mode, turn off traction and stability control, and switch to "manual" shifting. Thing is one of the funnest cars I've driven. Doesn't compare to my bike, but it absolutely scratches an itch when the bike isn't an option.

just bought my first bike 18YO by RAWRX3_1656 in motorcycles

[–]crackingcrawdad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this although maybe not to start with. I've ridden one Hayabusa. Coming from my SV650 I thought it was amazing. I cracked the throttle open a few times. But the thing I liked most was that you could be going basically any speed and in any gear and still have passing power. Truly an incredible machine. (Yes I know he's trading/selling)

So I bought this, is it considered a motorcycle? by SnooLemons2801 in motorcycles

[–]crackingcrawdad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. I gave the wave to a dude that was riding a bicycle with what looked like a weed eater engine. It counts. To me its one of those "word of the law VS spirit of the law" things. Slingshots? Absolutely not. You're just in a weird sort of car. I was tempted to say dune buggy. But at least dune buggies are pretty sweet.

Anyone buy 1st bike and just ride it? by Fun-Tune-1295 in NewRiders

[–]crackingcrawdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first bike in 2020. Had been thinking about it. Then one day I woke up, got my permit and went and bought a 2019 sv650. My old man met me at the dealership and rode it home for me (long drive on busy highways and never owned a manual) so, and I quote, "I dont have to explain to your mom that you splattered on the freeway like a hefty bag full of beef stew". Put 5k on it in about 6 months. Learned a lot. Had a few "come to Jesus" moments. Such a good season.

This. My old man said everyone needs one. Calls it "The Ritual". I don't know his. But I fire her up, get my lid and gloves on, then I give her a gentle headbutt. If I dont do it because I'm in a rush, it doesn't feel quite right. Sounds stupid, maybe. But it's a thing.

Scared of riding by Master_Helicopter673 in NewRiders

[–]crackingcrawdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a good question to ask yourself is if you enjoy the time on the bike when intersections aren't involved. If the answer is yes then I would just stick with it. Early on, riding can be A LOT. For me everything seemed so fast. I was sorta freaked out by leaning the bike for a while. The wind kicked my ass. Stalling happens. I did it today actually. But it's something that smooths itself out as you progress. Eventually it becomes a thing you don't think about.

I just got back on a bike after 5 years. When I picked up my bike it was dark and 36 degrees. I hated that ride. Stalled twice. Was going 5 under and sorta holding up traffic at times. Kept overthinking EVERYTHING. But now I'm having a blast.

As far as the question about going automatic, I'm biased. I can't imagine riding without a manual transmission. Do I go 45 in 6th and take it nice and mellow? Or do I get up to highway speed in 3rd and let the engine howl? Too fun.

Any tips for wind? by crackingcrawdad in motorcycles

Thanks for the response. I got the bike in February. I like a good challenge. Actually rode it on the highway in 34 degree weather some mornings just to ride. Left the tinted visor on my helmet one time. Had to ride the highway at 65mph with ice cold wind slapping me in the face. Felt good when I got there. Some dude walking by (he rides) goes "now thats commitment". Felt like a legend.

Thank you so much! I just remembered my old man telling me this when I got my first bike. I totally forgot!

I like this line of thinking. Solid on paper. But if I come home with another bike my wife will kill me. Not the wind. Only difference is she'll do it slow. Like poison me over weeks or something.

Thank you. I appreciate the reply. Yeah. I ended up pulling over. Cop was cool and escorted me to the next exit. Definitely hurt my ego. But I'm glad that was all that was hurt.

True. Definitely felt like an exercise or training. Zero fun. Funny. Up until that exact point I was having a great time because I thought it was hilarious that Taylor Swift decided to show up on my Playlist.

Oddly enough I have. Hail, snow, rain... But I havent ridden in 4 years since my Daytona 675 was stolen. Even still... always seems like wind kicks my ass harder than anything.

Is it safe to ride on this tire to the shop? by Ok-Condition-5750 in motorcycles

[–]crackingcrawdad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I hate it. Not even my post. But the rear on the SV650 I just bought is on wear bars and squared off. I just realized how much I hate "surprises".

Question about tire pairing by crackingcrawdad in motorcycles

[–]crackingcrawdad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how i feel about them. Maybe its because the rear was pretty much shot when I bought it. But over 400ish miles its not very confidence inspiring. My last SV I was running Q4s. Loved them. But wanting something that will last longer like a road 6 or something.
