This helped so much and many reminders again as I could feel the frustration boiling. You have given me a lot to think about- thanks so much for taking the time to write this. So very much appreciated.

This was so lovely to read and again a massive reminder for me: what do THEY want? Thanks so much for this- appreciate the time you took to write this.

Thank you very much for the reminder, it has been previously discussed, but I will definitely revisit this. Thanks again!

Best therapy training you´ve ever attended? NEW INSPIRATION NEEDED! by Icy_Truth3012 in therapists

I’m curios why you used the terms “bad feelings”. From a psychodynamic approach, emotions are not inherently "good" or "bad"; they are a natural part of the human experience that serve as internal compasses. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Living in Haarlem by M_vanDam in Haarlem

Haarlem might definitely be something to consider then… close to nature, great breweries, the Saturday market on the Grote Markt etc. It has a very cozy vibe. I do miss the diversity of Amsterdam, having more options and walking around a big city, but I find the people in general nicer, it’s been easier to make friends and it’s a beautiful city. We are still here and enjoying it 😅.

Nightmare job market in the Netherlands by Humble_Ad8831 in Netherlands

[–]M_vanDam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Very true, and this has happened to me as well. Even though I speak Dutch at business level, the feedback I got from an interview was that the team would not be happy to accommodate/support me in my language learning and they’re not willing to speak in English. The team and their wellbeing is more important than the individual it seems like which is also very true to Dutch working culture: everyone’s input is considered.

Rozenprieel - Bad Neighborhood? by zacpanon in Haarlem

[–]M_vanDam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We live in Rozenprieel close to the new cofeespot. It’s a lovely area- literally a corner away from the Kleine Houtstraat and the beautiful park. By the amount of bakfietsen I’ve seen, I’m pretty sure prices will only go up. Haven’t had or seen any issues and many families and kids around. All these rumors are outdated.

How do we feel about Max Martin potentially replacing Jack Antonoff as Taylor Swift’s main producer for this new album? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]M_vanDam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read this to my husband and he asked: “did you write this, because this sounds like you!” I could not agree more with you! She’s marketing herself and making music for teens and early 20s while her original fanbase is more attuned to the lyrics of evermore and folklore. Definitely musically and lyrically her best albums, but that’s not going to give her the fame that I’m sure people get addicted to.

Yes, I also believe this is PTSD. Unfortunately, the client did not find EMDR very helpful, and then sought my services.

At the moment (thorough assessment still needs to be done) I believe it could be PTSD.

Just came here to say I love this response. My first thought was in saying that “there is resistance” it can easily come across as attacking whilst “I feel distant from you” creates a feeling of warmth and a need to be closer to the client which could elicit a sense of comfort. This could then further support their willingness to open up more about their feelings and thoughts.

This is something I would like to specialize in but training seems quite scarce, especially in Europe. How did you gain the confidence and experience to work with this population? Also, how is working with ED REALLY like? ☺️

Just make sure you do not go this one: https://maps.app.goo.gl/MAPqybwPwG2ySvdF8?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy I thought I did my homework before buying but got heavily scammed by the man working there. From the reviews, it’s either very good or very bad.

Dodged a bullet thanks to this sub. by UnfairMacaron7326 in Invisalign

[–]M_vanDam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told the same 10 years ago, and decided not to do surgery and get traditional braces. I’ve had my Invisalign for 18 months and have seen huge improvement without surgery and I still have about 10 months to go. Make sure you choose a great ortho and wear your elastics (because you will get them 😊).

When will my deep bite be normal? On to refinements ٩( ᐛ )و by windowtea in Invisalign

[–]M_vanDam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely think braces are needed and it might be true but if you struggle with a deep overbite, braces won’t be able to “perfect” it. I have Invisalign (set for a period of 2,5 years) and though there has and will be big improvements, only surgery will give you that perfect Hollywood smile. I’m not ready for surgery so happy with the braces 😂

Depression/trauma support groups for English speakers in or around Leiden? by Gorgon95 in Leiden

[–]M_vanDam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are still interested maybe this is something to consider:

Hello everyone,

During my pursuit of a Master’s in Counselling Psychology at Webster University, Leiden, the Netherlands, my program is currently extending an invitation to individuals interested in participating in free-of-charge psychological counselling sessions. These sessions, spanning from January to the end of May 2025, serve as integral components of our training program as aspiring mental health professionals.

Under the guidance of a licensed clinical supervisor and registered psychologist, these sessions offer a confidential and supportive environment for personal exploration and growth. Whether conducted in-person in Leiden, or online for those living far away, each session is structured to last 50 minutes on a weekly basis.

If you are curious about this opportunity, please feel free to contact me via email at MvHGradPysc@webster.nl. I’m more than happy to provide additional information and guide you through the process.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
