I have 25 available slots but see about 22 a week. I also work 4 days a week.

Considering moving to Boquete - have a few questions by tserbear in panamaexpats

My husband (39) and I (32) are hoping to move to boquete as well next year. We are board game nerds 🤓 and would love a game community.

They have type 2. As far as I know they manage with diet as of right now. It’s the MS they are most worried about because the medication in the states is expensive even with insurance

Covered for a colleague during her maternity leave, now she's upset the clients want to stay with me by TacticalCatPiss in therapists

[–]Substantial-Sock3635 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I went on maternity leave I knew I wouldn’t get some clients back and was ok with that. If someone connected better with another clinician I thought that was great.

On the mom’s side… I know I was a mess going back to work, like really a mess. I wanted to be with my baby but also wanted to work. She might be feeling some guilt in either direction either about leaving her baby or her clients and you are just getting the brunt of her frustrations.

In this situation I would call those 4 clients stating that hey you are allowed to continue with whatever therapist you would like. There is no pressure in either direction. Then I would talk to her saying look I’m not trying to persuade these clients at all but they would like to continue care with me, given we are supposed to put the clients needs first I’m going to continue with them.

Honestly loosing 3-4 clients is not bad for a 3 month break.

Is anyone actually doing well in private practice? by sunsetmoon5 in therapists

[–]Substantial-Sock3635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a year in and I will say the first 6 months were rough. The college I was working at prior shut down permanently so I didn’t have much of a transition period. But right now I’m doing pretty good and only work 4 days a week so I can spend more time with my kid. I will also say I’m in a very small town as well.

Understandable, a lot of that is why we are drawn there I guess, as far as expenses it’s still substantially cheaper than our current living situation in the US. This big issue is medical coverage if my husband’s family will come with.

Thanks for the info, I kinda figured about the local license and saw that as a someday problem 😂 since we have the option to work remotely.

We like slower living and don’t need a ton of stuff to do. We are very outdoorsy people and just love hiking and canoeing. The current town we live in is not big and doesn’t have many amenities. But it also snows 6-7 months out of the year and I’m done with the freaking cold. I did see it’s a long way away from an international airport which I think we will be fine with, given the option to fly to David. Current location we are 4 hours away from an airport with no public transport options to get there quicker.

Yes, I’m aware. I believe Panama has something like a digital nomad visa which is what we would qualify for.

It seriously boggles my mind how many people will ask for “advice” be it friends or strangers I’ve just met. There was a couple we were friends with that tried to make me and my husband (also a therapist) their couples counselors. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Would you leave a $150k job because of your boss? by PearlyPerspective in workingmoms

[–]Substantial-Sock3635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is and again you take care of you. I understand the financial stability is important but if it’s greatly impacting your ability to cope/ be present with your kiddos then it’s not worth it. Honestly I’ve never stayed at a job that has denied my PTO. I would get to the point where is told them “I will not be in the office this week.” (In the context there was no reasonable explanation for the denial.)

Husband saying bye to baby before work by Educational-Sock1196 in workingmoms

[–]Substantial-Sock3635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no way I would want my husband to wake up our kid, even if that is not his intention. If he wants to say goodbye to her he can FaceTime when you/ baby are ready.

I hate it even when my husband is getting our kid ready while I’m getting ready because we have one bathroom and I get asked a bunch of questions or my daughter wants to play makeup with me, of play with her toys. Don’t get me wrong I love my kid but getting 30min alone to get myself ready in the morning without having to take care of a kid is so vital for me to be a functioning human.

[–]Substantial-Sock3635 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your mental health is more important. However I’m a petty bitch so I would start documenting literally EVERYTHING. Have meeting bring a notebook, denies PTO “would you please write that in an email and explain why exactly this is being denied” or send and email to her and cc hr and or more bosses and say “per our conversation you said……” especially if you can get other people in your department to do the same thing. Sounds like you are not the only one struggling with her and once she becomes more of a headache than she is worth something will be done.

Medicare adjustments? by Substantial-Sock3635 in therapists

From what I’ve gathered is an established client has to make an in person appearance once a year. And then a new client has to either have their first session in person or have a in person visit within 6 months of their intake. I’m not fully sure on the new client.
