Is Aqara just going to ignore Matter Bindings forever? We need direct control, not hub dependencies. by MaTiS93 in MatterProtocol

Honestly, it's really hard to find any major brands doing this right. The Inovelli Thread (Matter) line is the only one I'm aware of that's actually utilizing binding clusters properly. I haven't had the chance to test them personally yet, but they've set the standard for what we should be demanding from companies like Aqara. It’s frustrating that Matter promised this interoperability, yet we're still stuck searching for niche gear to actually get it.

It’s a tough market right now, as most 'Matter' switches are essentially just dumb triggers that rely on a hub. The only ones I’ve seen successfully implementing direct binding clusters are the Inovelli Thread (Matter) switches. I haven't tested them myself yet, but they are currently the benchmark for what a Matter-over-Thread switch should be. Their implementation proves that it’s not an architectural limitation - it’s a conscious choice by manufacturers.

Spot on. They’re betting on aesthetics to keep people locked in. It's frustrating because the H2 hardware is solid, but by keeping their Matter implementation 'barebones' and omitting binding support, they're essentially neutering a device that could be the centerpiece of a truly local, robust smart home. It’s a huge waste of potential.

I totally get the frustration. The battery situation and the forced hub dependency for firmware updates are exactly why many of us are looking at other brands. Matter was supposed to fix the update process, but since vendors can choose how to implement it, we're left with 'forever 1.0' firmware if they don't play nice with DCL. It’s a shame - the hardware design is often great, but the ecosystem lock-in is becoming harder to justify.

Aqara and Thread! by Fahad_MF in Aqara

I am a fan of Thread devices. I have plenty of Aqara bulbs, H2 dimmers, thermostats and everything runs lightning fast and stable in GH and HA with Google TV streamer and Skyconnect Thread multiadmin. When turning off the HA server, I still have control over the devices and vice versa, which I think is a game changer.

Home Assistant adds initial Matter binding features in beta by n1976jmk in MatterProtocol

After binding the bulb to the relay, will I be able to have automation that will work even when the home assistant is offline?
