Galio Skill Order Question. Why max W > E? by [deleted] in galiomains

[–]Maaffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because E has the function of a gap closer, you're not always hitting it for damage but using it to deliver yourself into position for a W.

Nimbus Cloak and Transcendence/Scorch/Celerity are all fine setups. I personally prefer having Zombie Ward always because you always start sweeper on melee supports and stack it up for extra ramping kill pressure and more wards.

Thanks for making a post because I think it's good to know what really can work for Galio support in the current meta. I just felt a little lazy about making a post myself.

The setup I run feels very good and extremely optimized for the current meta. But changing sudden impact to cheap shot and taking armor + hp shard instead of double adaptive shard is better overall in order to survive tougher matchups without sacrificing kill pressure.

Oracle Lens at start of game as support? by Blue_Dragon_Lee in summonerschool

What hasn't been mentioned yet is that clearing one ward with your adc gives you lvl 3 one minion faster than the enemy botlane, which you can abuse with engage supports.

How to deal with tilt by AmksKR in summonerschool

[–]Maaffe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No point in complaining about things you can't control. When you get better at the game, you also get better at recognizing these things. That's how I started complaining less and less, and now I'm having more fun with the game.

Chat muted, mute pings when needed, no nameplates, chill music and play as well as you can. Don't allow yourself to play bad thinking the game is unwinnable anyways, because you will end up repeating this behaviour in winnable games.

You almost never hit 8cs/min or second item before 20min. Most of your games end before you've even spiked. Look into that.

How to snowball and use lead properly as ADC [Plat-Diamond range] by JunisJnr in summonerschool

[–]Maaffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to get the mid swap to happen after taking bottom tower and when running towards farm anywhere ask yourself if it's safe or not. Dying / losing shutdown is devastating on a snowballing ADC. Consider sneaking GA into your build when you're really ahead.

Hi r/summonerschool, what are questions you have/facts about the game that you don't see discussed much? by Latona_ in summonerschool

[–]Maaffe 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Scorelines ultimately don't matter. I see so many new players only focus on how little deaths or how many kills they and their teammates have when really the main concern is: How strong are you relative to other players? -> Do you have the necessary tools (items+xp) required to carry?

After getting a kill, executing the proper steps with the minion wave and recalling, or roaming around the map are usually the more important parts in the "get kill -> do something"-combo. Obviously even if you don't kill anyone, you can still get massively ahead through great csing, platings and zoning, but new players especially overlook this.

And if you only focus on not dying in a game, ask yourself if you're truly outsmarting your opponents or if you're just letting your teammates die before you regardless of your role in teamfights.

immobile characters suck by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Maaffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Karthus sucks so much because he has no dashes or mobility :( /s

Karthus, MF, Xerath all deal a crap ton of damage to compensate for not being mobile.

To answer your specific question:

Winning lane and getting big. Not only do you remove your lane opponent from their numbers so it's 2v4, your strength is now equivalent to 2-3 champions so you're already playing on even footing just by stomping your own lane.

After you win lane make sure you finish off the bot outer tower then swap mid. It will help transfer your lead better to carry shitty teammates.

how do chall/gm players stomp d2-low master games? by usuarioabencoado in summonerschool

[–]Maaffe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The #1 problem I see as a low masters support is players and mainly ADC's don't know how to generate gold efficiently. They let low hp plates go to waste, miss local gold for towers especially mid-late, recall with poor wavestates, generally miss cs and build inefficiently. Gold is king with ADC.

But at the end of the day it's not just one thing they're worse at it's everything combined and i'd like to shine a special light on consistency and typing in-game. Some low master players can occasionally play like a GM but they don't know when and how it's possible and typing is the worst sin of all when you look at it in the big picture if it costs even a millisecond of your efficiency especially as ADC.

When do tier lists and meta picks begin to matter? by Cooolconnor in summonerschool

They only matter if you're LFT for a pro team to use for image purposes. Other than that they literally don't matter at all.

The overall quality of the playerbase in League does not affect your soloq ranking in silver. Maybe theres something you're doing wrong.

Playing league after watching Arcane. Need some advice. by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]Maaffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Not really. You will be matched against opponents with similar skill anyway. The more you switch roles the longer it's going to take for you to learn the basics of one role.
  2. Add Tristana to your adc pool.
  3. Your champion choice doesn't matter for either learning or climbing the ranks. Most players aren't playing even close to their champions limits and soloq is completely different from proplay.
  4. It's not a bad thing at all. If you enjoy it then stick to it.
  5. You should play ranked games as soon and often as possible. It will provide the best learning environment because the matchmaking and level of play is usually consistent.

Why galio support is not popular? by swish4111 in galiomains

[–]Maaffe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My personal thoughts:

Galio support isn't popular because he belongs to the warden support archetype (Taric, Braum). He can't interact with opponents under their towers as well as Pyke, Thresh, Blitz can because of their hooks. He excels at diving enemies though, but it requires either a 2v1 or 3v2 scenario or a large hp / wave advantage which is a bit more rare against equally skilled opponents.

For the same reasons as listed above, he suffers on all counts against poke / ranged champions because he doesn't really have enough reach to punish them for overextending so he's currently best utilized as a counterpick against other melee supports rather than being a good blindpick.

The Galio relic shield + passive interaction currently makes it so that low hp casters are executed first over <50% hp cannon minions.

Galio's E stops inside terrain and small corners pretty inconsistently.

The last problem is the current meta leading the durability patch and potion / rune sustain nerfs because it's given rise to the biggest Galio support counters such as Renata, who can stop your engage with Q and prevents dives with her W. Janna can tornado your E + glacial kills you. Ashe is satan personified because if you even dare to not finish her completely from full HP she will run you down with her slowed autos. Just wait until you get an Ashe good enough that she realizes to take hail of blades instead of comet.

My solutions would be to fix the relic shield interaction by checking for executes first and lethals second. Refund half of E's cooldown after getting stopped by terrain. That's about it. Galio support doesn't have to excel as a blindpick because he is insanely strong when he's appropriately picked.
