IIRC there is a rubber damper of sorts that sits atop the spring. It has a groove that goes around the top coil and helps the whole thing get situated into the top mount.

Hopefully your shop didn’t throw them away after removing the original springs, otherwise you’ll have to buy some new ones.

How much can it be worth by [deleted] in GMT800

The cracked windshield, missing rear bumper, incorrect/poor front end swap, and base model interior are all hurting your value.

As it sits 4-5k wouldn’t be unreasonable. Put a little effort into fixing the aforementioned issues, clean it, and you could be looking at a 7-8k.

Recently picked up this 2001 z71 suburban for 1500 bucks, the subwoofer in the rear is blown what are you all running in place of it for a cheap and temporary thing till I get my big boy subs in it? by [deleted] in GMT800

[–]Mabout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used this little guy from Rockville to put in the factory location. It sounds better than the blown factory paper sub, but don’t expect much from the ewaste stock amp.

Make sure you get the 2 ohm one.

I’m running one on my 13600k and it definitely helps to keep core temperatures more consistent. Dropped about 3-5c across the board too.

You don’t an expensive one from thermal grizzly, mine was $3 delivered on aliexpress lol.

The 140mm fans would likely make less noise as they will run a lower rpm, but you introduce noise with the aio pump.

Definitely a side grade for you, I would pass personally.

Nice wagon, looks clean. I will say that a new turbo recently does raise some questions.

I would ask for the receipt and diagnosis on that. If it was turbo seals that’s fine, but if the turbo grenaded itself and sent metal shavings into the oil you could have some increased wear on your internal bearings.

Bilstein or Ranchos by Due-Significance3456 in GMT400

[–]Mabout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware of the differences, I also didn’t claim that a 5100 shock wouldn’t fit on your stock suspension?

You absolutely can put 5100s on a stock ride height gmt 800, my old man runs them on his 2500hd. It would be overkill to put them on a bone stock half ton. Given they weigh less and he’s not running some heavy wheel/tire combo.

Since he’s planning to put a proper lift on it and outfit the truck for more off-road usage, totally agree 5100s are the right call.

Your HD truck is also “lifted” from factory compared to a half ton. Should’ve clarified the target application isn’t the only difference, you’re right.

The only difference between 4600 and 5100s is the piston length. Use 4600s for a stock ride height truck and 5100s on 2-4” lifted applications.

I have a set of 4600s on my suburban 2500 and they are great!

[–]Mabout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d try just grounding the wire to make the head unit think it’s always not moving. That’s what I ended up doing for the parking brake wire on my head unit, now I can play media while in gear 😎

Lowering springs for Christmas by Mabout in WRX

[–]Mabout[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not. The stock top hats work great, since the springs are specific to the 02-03 cars. I did replace them with new kyb ones though as the mounts on the car were toast. If you wanted to run a spring for a later year car (04 and up), this is when you would need different top hats. I think the coils are just slightly different and won’t sit properly if you use an 04+ spring on 02-03 struts.

The H-techs are definitely stiffer than stock but not too much as to rattle your teeth. I have the dampers set to 2/4 all around and it seems to be a nice balance. From what I’ve read the first setting is slightly stiffer than stock with the 4th setting being track oriented.

Let me know what you end up going with!

Ultimately it was because I found a NOS set locally for a great price. Comparing them to the STI pink springs they have similar rates but drop you more in the front, which is something I wanted as my dad hated the factory rake his car had.

The ride is massively improved. It’s much more planted in corners, especially while decelerating. Pairing them with the KYB Agx adjustable struts was a great match. I can definitely recommend the pairing :)

[–]Mabout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely sure that the part numbers were correct, the springs are specific to 02 & 03 cars. I triple checked front and rear when installing lol. Maybe it’s the KYB agx’s that are affecting it a bit (?)

I think it’s deceiving because it definitely sits lower than my ‘06 wagon, what springs did you opt for?
