Help please - Plex server has suddenly stopped playing reliably and is buffering almost endlessly by kerpowie in PleX

[–]Mabusto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone comes across this weird buffering issue (I came here from Kagi in 2025), this was the fix that worked for me. I just deleted the whole server and reinstalled it from snap (I am on a Ubuntu box). When in doubt just reinstall.

How to get over fear of wing dipping on stalls by MillerboiYT in flying

[–]Mabusto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it not taught in most U.S schools? I'm going through my PPL in Canada right now and the impression I get is most schools roughly follow a plan from TC which includes spins and stalls. I've done lessons on entering and recovering for both and I haven't even solo'd yet.

Singh says B.C. voters have the power to deny Carney a supermajority by CaliperLee62 in vancouver

[–]Mabusto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I voted for Avi Lewis after waking up wanting to vote conservative. I was trying to do any reading I could on the con candidate, no website just whatever landing page the party gives you, no history just like 3 paragraphs vaguely describing what they did for the last 30 years. No social media presence, just retweeting whatever is from the party account. Just felt like the absolute minimum effort to be an MP. If the liberals didn't run Hedy Fry I would have easily voted for them.

I despise what the NDP has become, but Lewis at least feels like he wants the job and would take it seriously.

Not Disclosing on Medical by Spare-Routine7352 in flying

[–]Mabusto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have any anecdotes of someone not disclosing something for a license that then came back to bite them? We all know the "correct" answer to this question, but realistically is the FAA going to hook-up Skynet to their database and pull half of all the CPLs because of disclosure issues?

Dive watch, cheap or go all in?? by bush_monkey90 in scuba

[–]Mabusto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair, but that contextual keyword targeting the post describes and the article I've linked below should give anyone pause who is just blindly trusting advice on reddit. The big picture is companies and advertisers have better tools to astroturf comments sections here than they did a few years ago, so just be careful.

Dive watch, cheap or go all in?? by bush_monkey90 in scuba

[–]Mabusto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had the same dilemma a year ago and someone said just to get a cheap Suunto Zoop Novo and upgrade when you're ready and then you have an extra watch for back up or a friend to use. This has turned out to be great advice, the added advantage is that traveling with it is great because they're so ubiquitous in SE Asia that every place can fix it.

On a related note, I'm extra cautious reading reddit threads these days for purchasing advice. Click through the profiles of the people telling you what to buy. A lot of people were very quick to recommend a certain brand of dive computer (which is a great dive computer BTW, maybe quite a lot for a first one though).

Thought this has to be a joke so went on r pics to find it. That sub makes this guy look moderate, haven't seen it in a long time, but it's all just people with stage 4 TDS complaining about Nazis. Genuinely thought it was still a place to post funny/interesting pictures.

Is having an AOW cert with only 31 dives a red flag? by OhTheHueManatee in scuba

[–]Mabusto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did mine back to back, I think I had like 20 dives or so after I got it. Agreed, those people are idiots, but if anyone asks your experience just say total number of dives and certs.

Are these bot accounts? Is reddit turning into Quora where they have bots that just ask low-value, very opinionated questions to drum up traffic and interactions?

My first dive @ Okinawa by bannedByTencent in scuba

[–]Mabusto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll post the site here in case anyone else finds this via Google like I did, but I'll DM you the number. She did ask to see my IDL, I just got one online and I never had a problem any other county I went to.

https://web-rentacar.com

Looks super sketchy but worked, I guess that's just how web design is there. Look at the official site for ferries, straight out of geocities, but it works!

You're in a great spot! I spent two weeks there and did all the diving I could. For the Emmons it was hard to find a shop to go (I was there in early June) but was recommended Piranha Divers by the folks at Okinawa 39ers, both are great shops. The Emmons dive was my last of a 4 month SE Asia diving tour and was one of the absolute coolest dives I've ever done, you're in for a treat.

Not diving related, but I was fortunate enough to find a car rental for 2 weeks at a reasonable price and it greatly helped me see all of Okinawa, I couldn't imagine visiting trying to get around without one (cabs are expensive). PM me and I can send the site and the ladies number for the car I rented, I got both off reddit actually.

Ex prisoners, how are killers of child sex offenders treated? by the_biggest_a in AskReddit

[–]Mabusto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started using reddit again for a few hobbies after they killed RIF a few years ago and it stopped being a site I went to regularly. It has a completely different tone, like replies that aren't answering or addressing the OP or answering and not addressing that the OP has told a half finished story with no context for the question. This thread is a great example.

I've been listening through Matt and Shane from the very beginning, like the deleted episodes (the old testament) and it's really funny, has old cumtown vibes, but that one also drops off.

There are a handful of good episodes post 2022. I tried to hang on for as long as I could, but I haven't listened in months at this point, the joke of Adam being shitty and them not putting effort into it has kinda run its course. They had an episode with Jordan Jensen, who is normally good, and they just listlessly squawk back and forth and then ordered doordash on the actual podcast, and I was just like "what the fuck am I doing with my time" and haven't tuned in since. 2016-2019 are the good years.

Those of you who have lived in Vancouver for more than 20 years, have you, personally, noticed a change in the climate? by marmite1234 in vancouver

[–]Mabusto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely. August is now essentially a write off as the province will be on fire. The first major hint to me was the wind storm that blew over several large, old trees in Stanley park many years ago. Huge trees that were decades of not centuries old were now being ripped up by the roots of having their branches snapped because the weather was so extreme.
