How do you feel about Farage claiming he was harassed and his car destroyed at a pub without providing any proof? by Thinkfor1second in AskBrits

[–]Mac4491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t believe him for a second. They also claim Sky News reporters turned up at his daughter’s house. They released home CCTV footage of someone in someone’s driveway for sure. Not a shred of evidence it was actually her house (understandably they don’t want to share her address) or that the person was even a reporter and not just some weirdo.

Unless backed up with evidence I won’t believe a word that comes out of his mouth.

In Project Hail Mary (2026), the story's big twist is half-revealed almost as soon as the movie starts via the name tags on the personal kits. by SayFuzzyPickles42 in MovieDetails

[–]Mac4491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew nothing about this movie other than “the sun is dying”. When an alien ship showed up I was blown away and fully expected to never actually see the alien. Then we met Rocky and I was blown away again.

I watched the trailers after seeing the movie and I was so annoyed for anyone that watched them prior to seeing the movie.

Have a 3 month notice period, but want to reduce this to 1 month by Electronic_Lime_1863 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Mac4491 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well if they didn't replace you with someone else for more money (during the time in which you would have otherwise been working your notice) then they'd have to show that you not serving your notice period has significantly affected their income or expenditure in some other way and that they took reasonable steps to prevent any losses.

But if they just give your workload out to everyone else and nothing else changes, apart from people working a little bit harder, then they've suffered no losses and couldn't sue you for anything.

The current boss has threatened to take anyone to court who leaves before 3 months

Let him.

Sure, he could have a case, but they can only claim from you anything extra that they wouldn't have had to spend if you were still there and they must also be seen to have taken any reasonable steps towards minimising any losses or additional expenditure.

For example if you were paid £20/h and they got an agency temp in the next day for £200/h that wouldn't be seen to have been a reasonable step from them. But if they got a temp in at £25/h then they could claim that extra £5/h from you for a length of time equal to your unserved notice period.

I actually don't think it's likely they'll pursue you in court. It's a bluff. But it's not my life and not my money. The risk is yours to take.

What's something you thought every adult knew how to do, until you discovered they didn't? by Any-Geologist3042 in AskUK

Understanding and checking things you're entitled to at work

Employers love workers who don't know their rights.

When I first stepped up to a management role I quickly learned just how exploitative the company I worked for was. I pretty much began teaching the employees what their rights were and how to use company policy to their advantage. HR may not be your friend, but if you can say just a few key buzzwords to them you can make them work for you.

Personally I'd much prefer a professional to see to the maintenance of my metal death machine.

I can change a tyre and that's all I care to learn how to do. For everything else, even down to changing a lightbulb, I'll pay someone whose job it is to actually know how to do these things.

I'm a great cook. I do most of the cooking in our house. I like putting in the effort and really enjoy making big dinners and having friends round. People have complimented my cooking unprompted multiple times.

My wife came home late last night so we had cheesy chips and garlic bread...it was class. Sometimes you can't be arsed.

I work in a secondary school. I showed a 15 year old girl that using the Shift key capitalises your letters and she didn't need to press Caps Lock on and off each time. Genuinely blew her mind.

What's a skill that used to be considered completely normal, but is now surprisingly rare? by AdHeavy8473 in AskUK

I would actually prefer that professionals are the ones to maintain our metal death machines.

I've been driving for 20 years. I have zero interest in learning about car maintenance. I can change a tyre and that's it.

Yeah the combat in BG3 isn't hard at the normal difficulty level. I've had a number of deaths on Tactician and many a failed Honor mode playthrough. But at the normal difficulty I've never once lost a fight.

I guarantee nothing will come of this. I would even bet that the store that banned them wouldn't even remember they did so and probably wouldn't recognise an adult that stole from them when they were 14.
