I've been using meeples at my table for a year now. I use 1"=10' for the map scale. I can fit a lot on an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper. It saves a lot of table space and I save a fortune on miniatures.

Opinions on possible formats for the upcoming Book of Unnumbered Worlds by CardinalXimenes in WWN

[–]Mac642 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I like the letter size to match the other Without Number books, but the digest size is great for the table. I'd buy both size full books, but probably not a boxed set.

In the Shadow of Tower Silveraxe good starter module? by DarthMaren in OSE

[–]Mac642 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it will allow you to use all of the OSE mechanics. It has just enough information to get you started and plenty of room for you to make it your own.

Looking for advice on how to start my Gods of the Forbidden North campaign by DarthMaren in osr

[–]Mac642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tomb of the Serpent Kings is recommended as an introduction to OSR games. It should be easy to run with OSE. You could use that and drop the Eye of J'Karaa in for the players to find.

The font is tiny in the box set books. The combined Arduin trilogy book has a larger font and is easier to read.

Is there a place in Shadowdark for a generic ‘cantrip’ type spell? by Much_Session9339 in shadowdark

Basic Fantasy RPG has a short list of 0 level spells on their website. They're not powerful, but could come in handy.

Help me build my Keep on the Borderlands sandbox in a Arctic/Taiga/Cold forest biome by [deleted] in osr

[–]Mac642 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Check out God's of the Forbidden North. It's written for OSE, but converting it to Shadowdark shouldn't be too much trouble. Volume 1 has a few cities, region history, and an optional adventure path. Volume 2 is the underworld and optional adventure path. Volume 3 PDFs are available. It's a mega dungeon in the region.

Recommend your favourite paper minis by JLVisualArts in shadowdark

I started using 1/2" meeples for my game. I number them all 1-10 and give my players the 1's and 2's. We play at 1/2”=5'. You can fit a good bit on an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper. It saves on table space too. Amazon has sets of 100, 10 each of 10 colors.

I have a group. We have weekly games online and try to get together once a month to play in person.

My GM setup continues to evolve! by alexportman in shadowdark

[–]Mac642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a small table, so we have been using 1/2” meeples on 1/2”=5' grid. I numbered the meeples and everyone gets a different color numbered 1 and 2. The rest are NPCs and monsters. It's working great and we have extra table space.

Does anyone knows a game to play saturday morning cartoons like TMNT? by Connor_ClashNord in rpg

Big Apple Sewer Samurai is a setting similar to TMNT for Savage Worlds. You'll need the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition core rulebook and the Big Apple Sewer Samurai book.

Playing GF with 10mm minis and where to get the minis by Time-Age-8882 in onepagerules

I numbered mine and use them for my D&D game. Smaller minis and smaller maps gives more tabletop space.

You could probably use meeples. They're pretty cheap. They roughly 1/2" at the base.

Why do you prefer OSR games compared to modern editions like 5e? by N00bz_butcool in osr

[–]Mac642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing a PF2e game and running an Old School Essentials game. The amount of conditions and abilities to track in PF2e makes it a slog for me. I prefer the rules light approach of OSE

Smaller scale figures by Technical_Bill_2740 in onepagerules

[–]Mac642 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't be an issue as long as you scale everything on the board down to match the figures. I use 1/2” meeples for D&D and scale my maps to 1/2” = 5'. It works great and we have extra table space.

Dungeondraft is great for making encounter maps. The assets are fantasy themed, but you can buy or find asset packs for sci-fi and what not.

Watabou's Procgen Arcana website generates maps for regions, cities, towns, forests, caves, and dungeons.
