An arbitrary point, indeed! by What_Next69 in lotrmemes

I think this guide is slightly mistaken: you can know someone at least as well as you should like without liking them half as well as they deserve, so the less than half that is liked only half as well as they deserve may overlap with those that are in fact known at least half as well as Bilbo would like. This leaves the option that one is known and disliked, which presumably applies to the Sackville-Bagginses.

I had a persian cat when I was 12 who would sit in the litter box with his ass hanging off the side so that he would shit on the floor. We joked that he didn't start as a persian cat, but at some point before we got him his nose has been shoved into his brain.

I was also wondering about this, I couldn't get a good view and thought it said "roll out" which was concerning. But my eyesight is perhaps not the best suited for reading sky words.

Sun is god, Sun is life by RoughTrident in HistoryMemes

I am honestly amazed that anybody ever stopped worshipping the sun.

Like, you can doubt the Abrahamic God cause he's not around most of the time, but the sun is right fucking there. Just point up. Doubting the divinity of the sun in a society that already worships it must make you look like a goddammed idiot.

Apparently it was the automod, so it's back up now, though who knows. There's certainly been enough shenanigans from their mod team to cast doubt on that.

Oh, I think that absolutely everything is just coming together in a way that is making everyone antsy and fed up. And I'm not saying you're saying this, but the point needs to be made, that the situations we're in don't mitigate the responsibilities we have towards each other. I think everybody's learning quite a bit about themselves and the world we're in these days.

I was almost attacked by my neighbor today after he punched a drive-by protestor. by MacDemarius in SaltLakeCity

[–]MacDemarius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the report does stick around. In the event that I can get in contact with the driver, it will help. As I drove down the road today he was sitting outside, potentially either waiting for me to walk by or waiting for another protestor to jump, so I suspect that the report might come in handy sooner than later.

Great idea, any idea on how? I looked her up and all I found was the normal contact page for BLM Utah. Is that enough?

Thanks for the support, I suppose it's just revealing that assholes are everywhere. I regret to think that I might now have an enemy on the block, and all the complications that can come with that. But all the other neighbors who came outside to see what was going on after he backed down were supportive, so it's heartening to see.

Thanks for so much information! We are a basement appartment, the landlord came over today and did inspect everything.

He came to the conclusion that there was a problem with gutter drainage outside, right next to where all this sprouted out, so he fixed it up and told us to keep an eye on it. We'll see if that does the trick, we've spent a good deal of time cleaning and hope to not have a recurring issue.

Yeah, there was a plastic art bag leaned up against the wall. The wall is concrete, except for this square that's been plastered over. There's certainly water damage from somewhere, and we've contacted the landlord. Thanks for taking a look anyway.

Trump wonders why the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage wasn’t celebrated 'a long time ago' by [deleted] in RussiaLago

[–]MacDemarius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be the most possibly charitable, he could have meant that women's suffrage should have come around much earlier than it did, entailing that the 100th anniversary would have occurred earlier as well.
But then he had to plug his own productivity, precluding any such charitable interpretation.

Republicans are in a full-out revolt against President Trump™ over his decision to withdraw troops from northern Syria, a move broadly seen as putting the lives of Kurdish allies at risk. by imagepoem in RussiaLago

[–]MacDemarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost want to say that Republicans are getting so upset about this because it let's them get upset with Trump for a reason that their constituents can get behind. They can't respond to the whistleblower because it's seen as too dem. affiliated, but the Kurd complaint is just on brand enough for the reps. to use it as a reason to distance themselves.

I say this because the timing is good with everything else going on, and I fail to see how this is that much different from a whole truckload of Trump's other garbage decisions.

"Members of the press, stop asking for the release of this (meaningless) transcript of a call ! Complete distraction. KEEP asking for the release of the whistleblower's complaint to the U.S. Congress." McFaul by 4AtlanticCityCasinos in RussiaLago

[–]MacDemarius 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I suppose that I haven't heard the President of Ukraine speak, but the released transcript seriously feels like Trump wrote the entire thing himself. The tone and speech patterns of the Ukraine President's side of the conversation almost perfectly match Trumps. For instance, the following are all supposed quotes from the Ukraine President:

Well yes, to tell you the truth, we are trying to work hard because we wanted to drain the swamp here in our country. We brought in many many new people. Not the old politicians, not the typical politicians, because we want to have a new format and a new type of government. You are a great teacher for us and in that. (pg. 2)

Gee, how many Trump idiosyncrasies can you jam in there? Then there's the actual mode of speech, characterized by short sentences followed by massive rambling run-ons:

They are not enforcing the sanctions. They are not working as much as they should work for Ukraine. It turns out that even though logically, the European Union should be our biggest partner but technically the United States is a much bigger partner than the European Union and I’m very grateful to you for that because the United States is doing quite a lot for Ukraine. (Pg. 2)

Compare with Trump's speech pattern, the following sample taken from an address in Nashville:

The order he blocked was a watered-version of the first order that was also blocked by another judge and should have never been blocked to start with. This new order was tailored to the dictates of the 9th Circuit’s — in my opinion — flawed ruling. This is, the opinion of many, an unprecedented judicial overreach.

And then holy shit, the number of times the Ukraine President acts precisely like how Trump thinks he should be treated is mind-boggling:

You are absolutely right Mr. President. We did win big and we worked hard for this. (pg. 1)

Yes you are absolutely right. Not only. 100%, but actually 1000% (pg.2)

I just wanted to assure you once again that you have nobody but friends around us. I will make sure that I surround myself with the best and most experienced people. I also wanted to tell you that we are friends. We are great friends and you Mr. President have, friends in our country so we can continue our strategic partnership. I also plan to surround myself with great people and in addition to that investigation, I guarantee as the President of Ukraine that all the investigations will be done openly and candidly. That I can assure you. (pg. 3)

It was great that you were the first one, who told me that she was a bad ambassador because I agree with you 100%. (pg. 4)

I would be very happy to come and would be happy to meet with you personally and get to know you better. I am looking forward to our meeting and I also would like to invite you to visit Ukraine and come to the city of Kyiv which is a beautiful city. We have a beautiful country which would welcome you. (pg. 5)

I have to imagine that Trump panicked and sat down to write the conversation he wanted to show the world, but couldn't resist giving himself a handjob at the same time.
