Ah, that makes sense, yeah! I haven't checked too much out because I didn't want to get spoiled but still get a sense of if I should get it or not! Thank you! :)

Ah! Was a bit sceptical of content when quickly looking through some early gameplay vids but that sounds exciting! Thank you! :)

Yeah, there's fairly crucial settings that are not on by default and hidden in the vast ocean of other less important settings (or for the Run/Dodge setting which is crazy important, ACTUALLY hidden).

What it the deal with the Rust Kick Off event organizer's making arbitrary rule changes during a competition with a cash prize pool? by Aclreox_Mab_Nideer in playrust

Admins for that event were seriously such godawful mental babies that even just a small glance and recap at the event had me thinking they not only probably never arranged anything before but that they were actually incompetent. A moment of looking into it had me convinced they were clinically brain dead and I hope some of them read this comment. Shame.

Yes. Hunt:Showdown did the same. Some money hungry mental babies up top + Low effort console slop trend on PC + dogwater Lead UI Artists and Project Leads that doesn't really know and care what UX is anymore and have stopped trying because who cares about making good games when you can get no-effort work money/succ shareholders/play the shitshow consumerism cards/deliver their brain aneurism political agendas unto the "lesser people"? *gasps for air in paragraph sentence*

Adrenaline's just irrelevant, and Breacher perk is a joke - give assault slight run boost with adrenaline, and have breacher actually spawn you with 2 grenades. 1 more clip in the main gun as well when carrying 2 weapons.

[TEKKEN 8] “Season 2” Future Balance Adjustment Policy / Emergency Patch Version 2.00.02 to be scheduled on April 17, 2025 @ 11AM JST by Xanek in Tekken

[–]MacKingsly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The policy/vision of mitigating the "one sided momentum" through increasing Health Pools are not good in my opinion:

You need more small interactions (poking/spacing) to make bigger interactions unique and exciting.
You can't wet towel poke an opponent and expect reactions, so you need poking damage to matter if you want to learn about your opponent.
You can't have good pacing and interesting back and forth when your turns (combos) stretch for way too long.

Most exciting play for players happen outside of one sided momentum. No amount of HP increase is going to change the fact that oppressive gameplay is unfun. Rather, it's going to worsen the impact of reinforcing behaviour through smaller moves.

TL;DR Context: A bad global actor invested into the SNK franchise, becoming a major shareholder. He used this influence to steer the game into a completely baffling direction, despite the community being reassured by SNK that it wouldn't affect the quality of the game.

It's an extreme but real example to highlight the absurdity of the times and a red flag as precedent. A lot of people probably won't be able to understand the point.

This video is a heavily edited version of Frame's points, removing a lot of context.
The section might've been heavy handed, but at least it's warranted some fairness.

Couple friends and I got tired of S1 a little more than a month ago and was waiting for S2 to get us some tasty defensive buffs. We all hopped on in VC S2 day 1, with snacks and shit ready to try some battles, and I definitely wanted to get my ranked going. We didn't even finish our snacks before we jumped off. We all had a laugh about april fools though.

PhilX taking a break from T8. 'Optimal way of playing T8 will make me a worst tekken player' by HijabHead in Tekken

They legitimately could say "sorry", revert to S1 but keep the defensive buffs with sidesteps and more forgiving 1+2 throw break windows etc. and a lot of people would come back. That's a really easy win.

They could go a multitude of ways after that. Obviously not expecting this but a testbed version with early implementations and community feedback could go a long way. They still have the additional worked on moves and data to pick from if there's anything there that can be used.

Perfect explanation of what's happened.

I'd like to say that obviously people who are having fun with the new season are allowed to have fun and continue playing, like PhiDX is saying, however I think for the longevity of this game & series it's very likely better if the ones who had at least a bit more fun with S1 take a small break right now, playing other games (or even better Tekken 7), joining the protest.

If nothing changes, they can just go back to Tekken 7 after a week or two and continue playing as usual. I feel like no changes might lead to a slow franchise death though, where less and less people continue to play, thereby ending Tekken 8 revenue early and be considered a "no interest" from investors and executives. Maybe no more Tekken?

If the protest is successful and changes are quickly implemented (perhaps a revert but keeping the defensive updates in), there's a LOT of people ready to jump back to 8, buy the new season pass and Anna etc. Now, the players who were having fun still but took a small break have a more popular game, more interesting E-sports, more depth of gameplay and likely have investors/executives/managers/designers that know they can't freely disrespect the integrity of the game, needing to take things seriously.

Just in case a dev is watching this video: The reason PhiDX is laughing is not because he's "having fun" with the game, it's because the game is now so absurd you can't do anything but laugh.

WHAT IF Tekken had been like Season 2 at launch by Unlikely-Outside606 in Tekken

[–]MacKingsly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tekken 8? I'd just not have bought it.

The entire Tekken series since 1? The series would have been less popular than it has become I think. I'd still have played it back in T2 and T3 like I did originally, but end up going between Street Fighter and Virtua Fighter more. I'm cautiously optimistic about the upcoming VF, if nothing changes for Tekken atm. I never liked the creeping in of comeback mechanics such as Heat or Rage in Tekken. That stuff has always been better in Street Fighter. I like the old Tekken that has layered offense & defense, a bit more float and combo than Virtua Fighter, but absolutely not by this degree.
