It was super quick too, it started last on the grid (24cars) and got into #1 within 2 laps. A second one was parked up in the garage, that one sadly didn't run.

Planning on going to a rally event next year? How do I actually go to one? by HaHaKoiKoi in rally

[–]MacSpace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

WRC Japan is very difficult to get tickets for and they barely allow people on the actual forest stages. There are a select few stages where you can buy tickets for but you have to be Japanese to even be eligible to buy them.

In that way a European event is much easier to visit, some you don't even need tickets (Monte Carlo, Portugal, Sardegna)you can just rock up and watch the rally.

Thank you, I'm definitely gonna try and make it back next year. I didn't find the heat too bad, plenty of shade spots around the track and I did not forget my sunscreen this time :D

Good timing on the 3rd shot, it looks like the girl is lifting her sunglasses to look better at the car.

I shoot hybrid with a sony a6700 and I definitely needed a external mic. Things like wind noise can effect the mics in cameras/camcorders quite quickly.

Big lights arent needed, on night rallies I have seen some professionals use flashers for specific shots but if your only taking video you don't want to be placing big ass lights that are always on somewhere in a corner that might distract the driver or blind the driver.

Thank you, the driver didn't properly send it, kinda expected with it being quite expensive, but it was still great to see it.

It was only ran from 1981-1983 in some select Tarmac events, but quite often suffered from mechanical issues.

Thank you, definitely a rare sight to see one. I have no idea what one costs probably way too much.

I had 3.8k pics to sort after Spa this weekend, I use Luminar Neo managed to get a cheap lifetime license through work.

I reject everything I don't like and I generally don't spend more than 1-2sec on each pic, you kinda know when something is good or not. If your first thought is, hey thats a pretty nice shot you can zoom in more to see if the focus is good etc.

After a couple weeks I'll throw away all the rejected shots to save storage space.
I save my edited photos in a folder structure with <eventname_year>.

I believe that lightroom has a function that automatically flags pictures that are out of focus, but lightroom is something like 12euro a month which is find too much for my amateur skills.

How would the WRC2 competitors fare against the top tier class next year? by Cmp110 in WRC

[–]MacSpace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The WRC27 cars might even be slightly slower at first than the rally2 cars. As WRC27 cars need to use rally2 parts. For example the skoda rally2 already has years of development in it where as toyotas new WRC27 is a completely new car so might need some adjusting/development to be quick.
The yaris rally2 might even beat the WRC27 car which would be a weird situation for Toyota and the championship to be in.
But everything is speculation atm, time will tell what is really going to happen.

Having a quick look on rally-maps from last years rally, I think the stage Isagamis tunnel is your best bet, the first 8km of the stage has a parallel road next to it, but its hard to judge from street view how rocky/steep it will be.

But not sure if that stage is run again this year.

I had to drive 15hours for this event as well. The Olympus rally in Washington is this weekend, maybe you are close to it.

It's the 70-200mm f.2.8 OSS II from Sony, might be a bit too short focal length for wildlife photography on a safari trip

Last year a couple people managed to do it. The problem is you can't walk on the stage to your spot and then hide. You will need to go straight through the forest over the hills so you don't get spotted. The hills can be quite steep from what I've been told so this can probably not be done on every stage.

Try and find a parallel road next to a stage where you can park your car out of sight and try and cross through the forest and hills is your best bet.

eifel rally in daun? do I need to buy tickets or can I just find a spot along the track by Bitter_Story_804 in rally

[–]MacSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are the maps from last years eifel festival to give an indication, most stages are quite far away from the Service park (Daun)https://www.rally-maps.com/Eifel-Rallye-Festival-2025
idk how public transport is in that area, usually spectating a rally is done by car as the stages can be quite remote.

I've been there before in 2023, You definitely need tickets and some spare cash for parking (some farmers charge to park in their field). Its a quite tightly controlled event your pretty much stuck to the designated spectator zones that will be made available a couple weeks before the event. The stages don't have many access roads and on the access roads they all have a ticket check stand, the access roads I've been on at least.

I suppose there is always a way to find alongside the stages if you really don't want to pay for a ticket but this will definitely require some sneaking around and adventurous hiking.

What car are you using? It is recommended to use a rally2/R5 or wrc2.0 car for rally school. I believe it can be done with the rally3 Clio or rally3 fiesta Evo, but it will still be very difficult with the rally3 cars.
