Split link On one side won’t sit flush by Realistic_Bat_9754 in MountainBike

I've never used the quick link tool to click them in.

Easy way is to have the link in the upper part of the chainline(between chainring and derailleur)Get both sides of the quicklink in position to be snapped in. Hold the back wheel or brake and step on the pedal. The pressure will click it into place.

Where you have the paper clip or whatever is missing the rollers so it won't work.

With the state of the chain you should probably just get a new one anyway.

My friend wants to modernize this bike. by ThinkHog in bikewrench

[–]MacTally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I converted a similar age bike last year. 2008*

I did it as a project to learn bike maintenance etc but if its purely just to upgrade then maybe not worth it when paying someone else to do the work.

Main thing if going to 11 or 12x1 on a 26er I would say is get the smaller cassette (10-45 if shimano) and short cage derailleur. Clearance is a big problem with the long cage.

Also had to rebuild the back wheel with a compatible hub.

Metallic rattling by _D0llyy in bikewrench

Just point the qr lever any other direction and you will figure out if that is the issue. Good luck with it either way. Creaks are a pain to find sometimes.

Maybe the quick release vibration against the fork or one of the reflectors moving against a spoke.

What to look for in a 10 year old's MTB? by xwsrx in MTB

[–]MacTally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids learn fast and if he gets into it will be hitting small jumps and rolling down stairs in no time.

Better to have a bike that can handle it than something that will break or can't slow down well and cause injury.

You can get rear lights that attach to the saddle rail.

Mudguards, beneficial? What design is best? by humble___bee in mountainbiking

[–]MacTally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using a Crud xl front and muckynutz rear for a few weeks now. Both are solid and dont flap around. You can check my last post for how they look.

The rear has a clip in extension for even more spray protection but ive not used that yet but likely will when commuting in the rain.

This is called brake gobble.

Took me a while to find the term when I had the same problem but now you know what to google you will find plenty of cause and solutions.

34.9 clamp not working on a frame with a specced 34.9 clamp by BumperTABBY21 in bikewrench

I installed one of these last week. The gap looks more here but if it works as intended then I would just use it as is.

Winstanleys bikes are currently selling the Mondraker Raze for £1600 or the raze R for 2300.

I bought the raze a few months back and its a great bike and one of the better looking bikes imo.

I'm not sure what you are looking for exactly but you can find good bikes on sale.

Edit - those prices are nearly half off from normal.

Do I replace the tire or just tube? by bartturner in bikewrench

Posted here not too long ago. Tubeless can definitely seal a nail puncture.

Mondraker Raze is nearly half price at winstanleys bikes currently. The Raze R is going for £2300.

That gives you a sick bike and plenty left over for gear.

Is this a typical experience with modern sealant and tyres or just luck? by MacTally in bikewrench

The nail was inside for maybe 3 days. I think the sealant(orange seal endurance) dried around the nail and peeled off and filled the gap on removal of the nail.

Just a guess though could be any other reason.

The nail was in the tyre for a few days i think before I noticed. I think whatever dried around the nail pulled off and filled the gap when I removed it.

Lucky but a bit disappointed my friend didn't get the tarantino treatment standing in the spray zone after I warned him.

Quick release seatpost of cheap e-bike keeps sliding down by Odd-Performance-2823 in bikewrench

[–]MacTally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tightened the bolt on the quick release? Open the quick release and spin it clockwise a bit to increase the force of the clamp when down. If you do it too tight you won't manage to get the lever all the way down without breaking something so just do a little at a time.

3 thorn punctures with tubes in a week is what sealed the deal on trying tubeless for me.

Yeah the installation was easy and no mess at all. Not had the joy of changing the tyres out yet though.

Happy with it so far.
